except I don't think it's quite that, as destruction and rebuilding something new out of the flames was the intent of the woke movement. Trump's coalition is intent on a revolution, but primarily only a cutback to the original American path or identity; primarily a destruction of executive branch bureaucracy and other interfering influences with the separation of powers and federalism

I love having Friedberg’s analysis because I can’t always put myself in the shoes of a soulless zombie corporation but he has this uncanny ability to give the anti-human view.
Even here he ignores Pfarma running the world for nearly 4 years but identifies an obscure person with MS who doesn’t visit the doctor but catches a miracle drug commercial and goes to the doctor.
His other point was, not about the endless government money dumped into research programs and grants that the parasitic pharmaceutical companies receive, nor the windfall some of them have in the government making them immune from lawsuits, no, Friedberg identifies the problem as the relatively few individuals getting their healthcare paid for along with the people taken to the cleaners by insurance companies.
I’m always impressed with his ability to think outside the box of people with a pulse.

Love Friedberg’s take on a mass extinction event being needed in Federal government. When I was an exec/manager in business, I hated zero-based budgeting - when the CEO would make each exec (cascading down the management chain) justify their annual budget from zero, as opposed to just negotiating a run-rate increase over the prior year’s actual expense. Very great CEOs force a zero-based budgeting exercise every few years to clear out the bloat and administrative creep that naturally occurs within human organizations. Clearly the Federal government has never done this and it is greatly needed!

Friedberg, most people in USA are covered by health insurance and do go to doctors. Pharma ads for "education" of consumers , where most of the the ad shows healthy happy people totally engaged in life , & the last 3 seconds of the ad rush thru side effects, is misleading at best. Pharma & drug prices need a very hard look by RFK, Vivek & Elon.

@@jannichi6431what liability? I recall big pharma taking over America, no, the globe, for nearly 4 years. Fully protected from lawsuits for a product largely developed with taxpayer money. Friedberg doesn’t comment on that corporate socialism because he wants those government grants, instead mentions some bizarre edge case about a doctorless MS patent who’ll only hear of a miracle product between propaganda segments on cable news. That’s probably because he wants to advertise his lab creations on the news too.

I think an important distinction the pod failed to make is that very few people in Washington have any incentive whatsoever to acknowledge that we're on the path to bankruptcy. If you're an establishment Democrat/Republican/Media who can't/won't see that then you don't recognize the value in disrupting the status quo, particularly not when it might put you out of a job.
Once you recognize that the shake-up isn't a matter of good or bad, but is quite likely an existential requirement what you start looking for in cabinet assignments drastically changes.

As an Australian we don’t have branded pharmaceutical adds on tv.
Also our government subsidises many pharmaceuticals.
What happens when a new ground breaking drug comes out- for example - the MS medication.
Firstly there are press releases from the pharma company to say this new drug has been approved by the TGA ( our FDA) and why it’s ground breaking.
Often they’ll get medical researchers or specialists to do interviews on morning tv.
Then when the drug is approved for subsidisation ( put on the pbs) then they can do advertising about the condition.
Something along the line ‘if you have these symptoms there is new treatment now available on the PBS, ask your doctor if there are any new medication/ device that can help you’
No brand name, no mention of the condition only the symptoms. Sometimes they state who paid for the advertisement - so people know which drug company has the drug, or if the government is advertising it.
But usually there is no advertising because there aren’t that many breakthrough drugs. But I don’t think the MS drug would have been advertised on mainstream channels or billboards. Probably just in pharmacies.

We don’t know where we will end up after these disruptors get confirmed but what we pretty much do know is that the current path leads to catastrophe. Keep on doin’ the same thing and expecting a different outcome and all that. Thanks besties. Nice chilled pod.

1:13:59 absolutely, the funding and waste involved in the government is disgusting and reprehensible. If our government was a company, it would’ve gone bankrupt millions of times over. The gluttony and waste is levels that are unimaginable.

LOL at Chamath being sad about selling BTC and then rambling about how "it's not there yet"... Like he is the one who decides when it will 'be there'
Such a sad cope, but can't really feel sad about the guy who was promoting Tesla all the time while quietly selling his shares.
I love to see whales getting rekt, serves him right for trying to play the market.

Jason and David F: Exactly on target letting mid-market companies buy our startups. I've completely stopped startup investing because of the 14% of peak acquisitions level in 2024 has made this asset class uninvestable until there is liquidity again. I do think the mag7 should all be broken up to release shareholder value and haven't even playing field for small startups. David Sacks: can you see that Trump does this?
