Ahhh my stomping grounds! Connecticut definitely has some good retro shops hiding around in it. Big shout-out to Brandon at Retro Junk, I sing praises for him every chance I get whenever talking to fellow collectors. Glad you had a good time hunting across the State!
@@PyyrusGaming You nailed pretty much the best ones in your video here! There's a few others up in Western Mass that are pretty good too. I like Tom's DVD & Game Exchange in Palmer quite a bit.
@StevesAssortedStuff I’m thinking about hitting an area in MA or possibly NYC! Haven’t decided yet, but it’s getting harder to find games from the list, so I’ll have to break out the big guns eventually!
Ayyyy M&J! That's my local shop, great place, and John, the owner, is an awesome guy. I also go to the Game x Change in Wallingford a lot, which isn't too bad, but I'd much rather use my cash to help keep the lights on at M&J. Gonna have to head upstate to check out some of these places around Manchester. My 10yo son has pretty much taken over as the resident collector in the household and I know he would be absolutely infatuated with Retro Junk's whole vibe.
I’m a Connecticut retro collector as well so I love the channel. The problem with GameXchange is anything rare that comes in never sees the shelves. My friend used to manage one of the locations and told me they kept all the good stuff for themselves for either their personal collection, or to resell on their own. Keep the videos coming
I'm so happy this video hit my recommended. This, unironically, is a perfect video for me-- A connecticut based video where I can find video games for my personal collection-- thank you for this video! I go to the Stateline Video Games often, unfortunately I find their pricing to be pretty high. I find it to be a turn off. I've been to Game XChange a good amount of times too, and I love looking at the collection of things there. I haven't gone to Retro Junk or Cruz n Retro yet, but I know where I'll be LOL
Love seeing Retro Plus get the visitation. The one on the Berlin turnpike is my go-to shop, and they appear regularly at the gaming expo every August in Hartford (MetalJesusRocks even has a video episode about that expo).
I live in Bridgeport CT (born not raised, raised in East Hartford) and Game x Change was like my favorite store here. Use to be one on Main Street then it got closed after covid which sucked. I now go to the one in Orange, there's a Retro Games Plus there as well like a couple blocks up from it. I love those two stores.
Cant really knock stores for charging a few bucks more than list price considering they probably have to sell hundreds a month before they even start to make a couple bucks. Imo a real store front is always worth spending a couple more bucks
I can’t get over how beautifully organized the first two stores are while having so much in stock. Shows the passion and love the owners have for gaming and I bet their knowledge in gaming is insane!!
Anybody paying rent is gonna have higher prices than someone selling online it’s just how it is. their prices seem on point to most other stores. I don’t mind paying a few dollars more to keep a physical store open there’s not enough of them, support your local stores like that even if you have to pay a dollar or two more, it’s not a big deal, you usually pay that extra in shipping online anyway.
@princequestly2218 Mall rent vs stand alone or strip mall, not physical vs online. They used to have a store on the CT/MA border (hence the name) but moved into Holoyoke and Enfield (and eventually Manchester). The tradeoff of more casual foot traffic is higher rent. (And I just made a run to Retro Games Plus when I was in the area.)
Tiny Toon Adventures 2: Trouble In Wackyland is a good sequel to the 1991 NES game. It does the concept of Jim Henson's Muppet Adventure: Chaos at the Carnival right not only by having better graphics, music, and gameplay, but also because the goal of the game isn't to save the girl. In fact, you actually get to play as the girl in one stage. Like with the other video games based on Tiny Toons, Trouble in Wackyland was not released outside of its native console. This is because while the games and their codes are owned by Konami, the franchise itself is owned by Warner Bros., who have their own publishing arm, making them unlikely to be re-released on newer consoles. Josh Fairhurst of Limited Run Games had been trying for three years to get them and Konami's Animaniacs games released for modern consoles in a compilation, but when he contacted Warner Bros. for the licenses, WB turned them down, claiming the revenue opportunity was too small for them. (I did an entire video rant on that subject and I recommend seeing it.)
@@PyyrusGaming I wish. I have the Nintendo Power with my name (Meriden) but video footage wasn’t a thing for me in 1990. I recall it came in a white box and thought I won the Tecmo Football game
Great video! I've been to Stateline and you are pretty accurate about their prices. Gonna watch the rest of your video later. You also got a sub from me!
i was just there on the 5th looking for the Crash 'n' the Boys: Street Challenge at buckland hills mail lol man now at grid Games & Retro Junk lol i need to come by to see if they got the game im looking for
Thanks for the compliment! I’m not going for the full set, but I am collecting the top 100 games along with some games from recommendations and nostalgia. I did make a separate video unveiling the list if you’re interested!
Pricecharting is a great tool, but it is just the average after all. Are you really overpaying for a game when on pricecharting 10 copies sold for 10 but all had ripped or mangled labels, and 3 copies sold for 20 that were very good, and then you find one for 15 that's clean. Pricecharting says the value is $12.31 in my made up example. So you technically overpaid the average price by almost $3, but you got a very good copy underpriced compared to the three that sold for $20. I personally go condition first, then price when buying in stores. As long as it's not way over pricecharting, I don't sweat it as much
You have a good point and it’s part of what makes this challenging. Good condition at or below price charting isn’t as easy as it seems for exactly the reason you said - PC doesn’t really take condition into consideration. I’m ok paying a little more for condition, especially on rare titles!
All my regular stops . B&T trading post has done me well before and Brandon from retro junk is a good guy to do business with he’s always willing to make a deal and his prices are good. State line is overpriced . Chain now out in CT and Mass . They’re in the Holyoke Mall now and they make eBay look cheap. M&J is not the greatest spot to try and find games . Finding prices on things can be annoying and they’re relatively high on things . Overall I enjoyed your video
I have a separate video explaining the list but I basically made a spreadsheet with a bunch of different ranked lists and added ratings from John Riggs and Pat the NES Punk to weigh the results! I’d encourage you to check out that video if you’re interested..
I've found that they price appropriately according to demand. If you're looking for a great price on Castlevania III you'll be more disappointed than if you're looking for a common XBox game or something for the N-Gage.
i forget the name of the place in danielson ct on Main st but don’t ever go there very very shady no prices on games u take them to the counter he gives a price🤦♂️
I'm really surprised you're including Stateline Video Games, they are well know for high prices and bad service, and they distribute counterfeits. Otherwise, all of these are good stores. Retro Games Plus isn't great either.
Thank you so much for the support! Great seeing you again the other day. Happy hunting!! 😁
Thanks, Brandon! I’ll be sure to check in regularly!

Dodgeball was really fun! Always wanted it, jus played it at friends house!
The reason you were probably sent to the Manchester Mall antique store is that Retro Junk used to be there before they got their own store.
Actually there’s a TH-camr who went there in a video I watched, but that’s a pretty cool tidbit about Retro Junk!
I need to hit these up!
What a super informative video! Thanks for sharing! I look forward to visiting these shops.

First time watching your videos. Fun to see some local shops. It would be nice if you mentioned the towns these stores are in.
Most were in Manchester while J&M is in Southington and the Retro Games Plus is in Newington.

Yeah, Stateline went downhill when they moved into malls. Likely had to raise prices to accommodate mall rent.

You gotta expect Brick and mortar stores to be higher than online prices, they have rent and such to pay. people selling online don’t.
