new reactors to EXO GROWL: Dont notice the one shot.... Thina at the beginning: Its a one shot mv! Gurl your very sharp and fast :) Thank you and did you know Growl was what made them popular as a group in 2013? and this song is known as South Korea's anthem because EVERYONE knows it there ;)
“This was ahead of its time.” Yes! EXO has been regarded as the start of 3rd generation Kpop. Personally, I’d like to think of their earlier songs (Till Wolf?) as transition from 2nd Gen to 3rd Gen with Growl solidifying it.
Growl is THAT song that every kpop stan knows even if they don't stan exo. This song is Korean National Anthem and SM's one of the biggest money source. This song itself built a whole bulding of one SM's main building.
Not alot of people knew that Kai made a mistake by dropping the hat but because of how professional he was about it no one noticed and/or thought its part of it :)
Fun fact: this song is absolutely LEGENDARY. People liken and call it a national anthem of Korea. A lot of groups do covers on it, cuz it's really a pure gold of Kpop.
Yea!!! This is another master piece from EXO, and if you watch again the Korean version you can see Kai's hat in the flor and how he pick up again so so professional 😀
yes the choreography is so great and unique, this mv only took one take for the entire video and this song break many records and was sooo famous to the point that it was named as 'SOUTH KOREA'S NATIONAL ANTHEM' that made them popular, even not kpop fan knew this mega hit song, it's been years long ago but it's still being played everywhere, there's a lot of kpop group who cover this songs even though it's released around 2013 but the supremacy it brings until now it never be broke
Growl set a standard that endures to this day. This is why Koreans say if a Korean doesn’t know EXO, they’re a spy 😆 Please react to Growl version 2 mv as well! It’s not a one-shot but the vibe is ✨immaculate✨
That was Korea’s anthem. It’s basically was shot them up to stardom... you see all the idols cover it.. I totally agree their dances mvs are totally ahead of their time.. love ur reaction
Fun fact: they shot it over and over the whole song for 14 times (if I'm not mistaken), to get the shot that they're satisfied with.. 😅 EXO is such hard workers! 💪🏻☺

As a multistan, and heavy Exo lover, I have to say they are one of the rarest groups for me where none of their songs sound old they all sound new and fresh every time I listen and I don’t even know what era they’re all from that’s how good they all sound to me. UGGGHHHHH I MISS THEM
Hi! Thanks for your wonderful reactions. Just thought you might enjoy watching the ‘other’ official video for Growl. (Just look for ‘Growl MV 2nd Version’ on SM.) You get a lot of close-ups of the members and the dancing is still great. Welcome to the family!
I liked your comment that their choreography is “crisp.” I’ve only been watching EXO a few months. I’ve watched other groups but EXO’s symmetry and perfection just captivated me like other groups don’t. To say nothing about their vocals. I really enjoyed your enthusiasm in the comments.
I heard they did 16x to get THIS one shot take, kai having his cap falling n him fast reflex grabbing it isn't scripted, it was an accident but they don't want to stop n Kai got d cap in time with d choreo nway.
Starting from Love Me Right, you might wanna check out the dance practices from there because those MVs are focused more on visuals and storyline. Once you reach Lucky One and Lotto, they don't have dance practice for those but the choreo for those songs are fantastic, so I suggest you check out some 4k fancams. Love ya! ☺
Try Monster dance practice. It’s da best! Anyway i enjoyed your reaction for sure, the way how you scanned their dance steps 🙌🏻 btw your bang and face in whole reallly remind me of Lisa from Blackpink, just i dont know why :D.
Heya Thina!! SKZ and other Kpop groups made videos for this song. As a new Lee Know stan (welcome to the club)- he is in dead centre formation. And the comments are going wild. Watch it, sweetie.
Hi Thina! So I learned you're from Oahu? I suddenly remember a friend from middle school who migrated to HI and she actually looks like you, u could pass for twins. Anyway, thanks for reacting to my boys!
I believe they said there is something like 13 versions of this choreo: ot12 Korean, ot12 Mandarin, EXO-K only Korean, EXO-M only Mandarin, remixes with added dance breaks, different configurations depending on stage size (like generally if all 12 members were performing they tried to have the dance battle going on by having all 12 on stage the whole time dancing, but for smaller stages they might switch groups off & on), etc~~~ It also gets more difficult when you think about each member had to learn at least 3 different vocal distributions, cause which each member sang changed depending on language AND if it was ot12 or EXO-K/EXO-M!!!~~~
The performance version of EXO's "Growl" is a one take video, which, as you know, means that it was shot all in one take without any cuts or edits. However, although it is a one take video, this does not mean they used the very first take, it just means that every time anyone made a mistake they had to start all over again from the very beginning. While filming the one take MV they had to dance the choreography about 7 times and this was the take the director and producer decided to use. They actually danced this choreography until they physically could not do it anymore the day of filming. But, if you notice, not even these takes were technically "perfect" because Kai drops the hat in the middle of the dance in the Korean version and he smoothly bends down and picks it up. He needed the hat at the end. But because it was done so effortlessly that most people don't even notice the mistake, or assume it's just part of the choreography, they decided to use this footage anyway. And in the Mandarin version, if you look closely you will see Sehun steps on Suho's foot. :D. In the beginning of the performance MV you start out by seeing 6 of the members and as the camera spins around you see the other 6 members -- There are 6 members that make up EXO-K and 6 members that make up EXO-M and when they come together they are 12 that make up one group as EXO. in the Korean version, you see the EXO-K (Korean) members featured first in the two groups. and in the EXO-M (Mandarin Chinese) version, you see the EXO-M members featured more prominently. They are so engaged with the camera, because the camera is another character in the performance. The camera is supposed to represent the girl that they are singing to. So that is why they are looking at the camera so intensely because they are trying to get the girl's attention. They are each trying to impress her with their moves. If you look up the lyrics for "Growl" you will see that they are pretty much acting like a wolf or beast, that can no longer control themselves around the girl and they are warning her to be careful because all she does is make them want to growl and grab her and possess her, etc. "I’m warning you just in case (listen carefully) It’s dangerous now (so dangerous) Stop provoking me (there’s going to be trouble) I don’t even know myself ... My breath keeps on stopping You walk towards me You smile at me Maybe you’re attracted to me too .... A dark shadow has woken up inside of me Sparks fly in my eyes as I look at you Everyone step away from her (step away) It’s going to get fierce from now on I’m growling, growling, growling I’m growling, growling, growling I’m growling, growling, growling If you don’t back away then I don’t care if you get hurt ..." etc. For every member in EXO-K there is a member in EXO-M that fills the same role. Each member in EXO-K has a counterpart in EXO-M. For example, D.O. is the main vocalist in EXO-K and Chen is the main vocalist in EXO-M; Baekhyun is the second main vocalist in K and Luhan was the second main vocalist in M; Chanyeol is the main rapper in K and Kris was the main rapper in M; Sehun is the lead rapper in K and Xiumin is the lead rapper in M; Kai is the main dancer in K and Lay is the main dancer in M; and then it's Suho is a lead vocalist in K and Tao was a rapper/vocalist in M (I'm not sure how these two really work together because Tao is more of a rapper and Suho is a vocalist, but because they are the last two they are put together.) That's why it's worth watching both versions, because, as you are starting to discover, there is far more than just the languages that are different. ;D However, what is even more impressive about all of this, is the fact that they filmed 4 versions of the "Growl" MV, so not only did they have to perfect the dance in the Korean performance version, and again in the Mandarin version but they also had to dance a version of the choreography again in both of the 2nd MV versions. And it wasn't like they could use the same footage because the Korean and Mandarin versions aren't exactly the same -- the EXO-M and EXO-K members had different parts in each of the MVs -- so that just adds another element to this. EXO actually filmed 5 different MVs for the song "Growl." As you saw, they have a Korean performance version, but they also have an EXO-M Mandarin Chinese performance version, and an EXO-K 2nd version and an EXO-M 2nd version, but there is still one more video that was released as part of their "Wolf" and "Growl" promotions. It's a drama version that combines their two songs "Growl" and "Wolf" and it's like a mini K-drama that is more like a movie or TV show with a complete story and the members playing characters. Here is a link to the full "Growl" and "Wolf" drama version th-cam.com/video/sFCvZUSnuus/w-d-xo.html. Plus, there are several iconic live performances of "Growl" as well.
EXO got so good at this choreography that they were able to perform the whole thing live on award shows and music programs just like they did in the MV. You should check out their Beauty and Beast performance at the 2013 MAMA Awards to see how impressive they perform "Growl" live. th-cam.com/video/ycql_T6Fc9c/w-d-xo.html "Growl" and this one take performance is what launched EXO into super stardom and it's what made them the most popular group in Korea. It's one of the reasons why the government has given EXO the title of Korea's national Idols. However, "Growl" came out in 2013 about a year after EXO debuted, and up until that point EXO weren't very well known or popular. When they first debuted, many people called them "SM's biggest mistake." Because the concept of them being aliens from Planet Exo and the fact that they were designed specifically to debut in both Korea and China and several foreign Chinese members were chosen specifically to make up their own sub-unit, etc. many people had a hard time understanding how EXO would ever be successful. The group started out being branded as SM's first failure, and they thought Lee SooMan (the founder of SM) was crazy for coming up with the group. But when the one take video for "Growl" was released, everyone began to take notice. This video was pretty groundbreaking, no group had done a one take video quite like this and it proved to the mainstream audiences that SM really did know what they were doing. Now everyone in Korea and around the world knows EXO and they have become one of the most popular groups that are one of the biggest money-makers for SM. "Growl" has become what they are most known for. EXO even performed this song at the closing ceremonies of the Winter Olympics in 2018.
Often imitated, it's really difficult to estimate the impact of this song and their style. Key (from SHINee) once joked that Growl built the SM Town main building. :D
You mentioned that you thought Growl would be connected to Wolf and it actually is... but what connect both of them are the teasers, not the MVs 😅 Love your reactions and how you appreciate my babies 💕💕💕
do the dance practice next so you can see it better without the flashing lights. if i remember correctly the growl mv is more connected to the wolf drama version video than the one you watched, but yes musically theyre very different ps. did you catch kai accidentally losing his hat and getting it back on?
