Despite Roland Orzabal and Curtis Smith both coming from broken homes, they didn't allow it to hamper their careers going forwards. A good lesson to all young children in a similiar situation. I've always loved this duo, especially their powerful lyrics and resonant voices. One of the best musical acts of 80s.

One thing that struck me about TFF was the level of musicianship on "The Hurting", which was where i came in to them. For two guys so young, the music and the lyrics were incredibly mature. Not only that, they've always had that weird ability to have completely different songs on the same album that still sound like TFF. I wish I'd seen them back in the day because for me, like many others, their music was a backdrop to many scenes in my life. Best to Roland and Curt. Thank you, gentlemen.😔👍🏾👍🏾

You forgot to mention that his surname (Orzabal) is from basque origin, like many people living in Argentina. The Basque Country is an historical region split into two countries, Spain and France, hence the (southern) french origins of Roland (Jaime). By the way, Orzabal (like Ormazabal) means, literally, "Wide wall" in basque (Euskera), which is the oldest language in Europe.

This was well made and enjoyable. Just one thing "The Graduate" were a typical new wave Mod band like 'The Jam'. So it wasn't about The Beatles. I know it was only 10 years after The Beatles but it was a totally different generation. There was a resurgence of Mod music but it had punk elements to it and that's really what we called New Wave in the UK - that and other post-punk rock music. Some of the music had Jamaican elements to it which was generally called Two-Tone or Ska. The Graduate had typical mod haircuts and dressed in mod suits. Not that important but it was when I was a teen and these were my preferred genres.

It's funny you should say that because I'm working on a bio about Curt, and I talk a little bit about how ska influenced Graduate.
