    These roofs are an amazing alternative for a lot of the popular and modern methods. I always click on this vid to rewatch it every time it comes back in my feed :)

      Oh wow, that is saying something as there are many more vids on TH-cam now...Thanks for watching.

      @@theDMsCraft I think a lot of people underestimate just how valuable your old vids are. I'm constantly finding myself circling back to them years later. Nobody these days would think of using the glue gun for thatching or the corrugations for easy shingles. I honestly think the shingles are so good because they even have a bit more of a "fantasy" feel to them and less of a "medieval wargaming" feel to them. Maybe I'm just a DM Scotty fan, but you never cease to amaze me. I got into crafting five years ago because of you and your videos.

    This is why I love to support you on Patreon Scotty - I'm always discovering videos I haven't seen before! Some great tips here! Love that water wheel. I'm sure you could make it look ever more amazing now with foam and/or popsicle sticks and/or etc. So many nifty ways to make terrain these days!

    • @theDMsCraft
      @theDMsCraft  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks so much for that support Perry. Lots of techniques have advanced and I sure could but I love that those without the resources can still make some good lookin' stuff.

    Again, I really love this method of construction utilizing your 2.5D method. I finally got around to building a simple "house" just to test out some other concepts/ideas I had and ended up staggering the strips on the roof so that the corrugations mimicked tiles on real rooftops - ended up looking really nice. Thank you again for posting all of these vids, very, very cool inspirational construction methods!!

    Now you got me rethinking future builds; Eyes & Ears Open, thank you Scotty - open floor play, simply managed. I might try magnets or using short corner support posts to fix in external walls and leaving internal walls as cover/sight dividers - General Rid Stump!!!

  • @SilentSooYun
    @SilentSooYun 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Love how cheap and simple these are! No exotic materials or tools, just some paint and creative use of common materials. I just adore the way you did the stone walls on the lower mill... just a few cardstock squares to suggest the existence of stonework
    One thing you might add to the lower tiles are an indication of where the windows are on the 3D structure, like a different colour paint or the like. Gives the PCs some more visually tactical options for fire lines and ingress/egress.

    Those buildings look awesome, even better than the papercraft buildings IMO. After that thread on the DM Craft forum, I started working on a larger two story tavern/inn using foam board and wood (similar to Kamloopian and terrainnoobs builds), but got bogged down with the enormity of the work it required. But your approach looks nearly as good with much less work. Thanks!

  • @Klomster88
    @Klomster88 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I assume putting small square blocks by the corners, or sticks that goes inside the corners would give lots of added stability.
    Since if you push the main building, the structure could slide ontop of the 2,5d inner floor and push over the interior furniture (although, a rigid construction could have everything topple as well come to think of it.)
    But just to keep those slight nudges from pushing things inside.
    The buildings look really nice, i really like the mill. I would have done the grinding wheel slightly different, but that's the joy of crafting it yourself :D

    Can you tell me how the roof is supported. I see the sides have a piece of card stock but I'm not sure I get it. Is the roof, under the shingles, four parts; side, side, and two bigger pieces glued together? Or is it three pieces; side, side, and one bigger piece that was folded in half? I figure you've worked out the particulars.

    Just one point though. I've noticed your cottage has windows, but when you remove it, your tile has no indications of where the windows are. This might come into play if the players ever need to peer through windows to see if enemy reinforcement in soming or somethig to that effect...

    • @theDMsCraft
      @theDMsCraft  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      That is a good point. In play I always just approximate where the windows are but as a crafter you can easily mark the edges of the tile to show where they are.

    I been making 2.5 tiles since 1st edition. Kind of a bold statement as the originator. Maybe I'm the originator? We better roll some D20's and battle this out. Lol I made massive dungeons out of popsticks. Book shelfs tables torches beds books. Perhaps you meant calling it 2.5. just saying this style isn't exactly new. Nobody showed me anything back then. I was making elaborate pop stick lamps when I was 8 and now I'm 47. Good stuff thoughKeep going. I'll keep watching. No offense man. My craft was a bit more janky then today.

    • @theDMsCraft
      @theDMsCraft  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      What I mean by 2.5D are tiles with short walls that simulate full walls to facilitate easy access. This was a combination craft where I put a full 3D structure over the 2.5D tile. I coined the term 2.5D when I started making vids because I had seen flat tiles and tiles with full walls but not tiles with very short simulated walls....enjoy the vids...lots to share.
