Re-visiting these videos again and wow! Has it been 6 years 😮 . I remember like it was yesterday that i began building my own tilescape set for our group. Man, they are still awesome and no matter all the high tech these days (3d printing just to name 1) nothing beats good old fashion crafting in my opinion.
@@theDMsCraft it sure has. I still use it too. I used a set up a few days ago when my group encountered some troglodytes in a cavern entrance leading up to a ruined castle. It was a great encounter and we all had loads of fun. Tilescapes is my go to for rpg games.
As someone who has increasingly little time for the Craft, this sort of system is perfect for me. You may have just saved my players from playing on boring gridded mats - thanks! I love how the fronts give such an impact to the tile
Oooh. I like this! Perhaps using the low 2.5d all around the rooms will help tables and beds and stuff from sliding off? Can't wait to see how to make this stuff - I'm a wanna-be tile maker with low-to-no budget and this stuff looks just so cool. Even if it's not used in campaigns I can see I'll use it in one-off fight sessions - bar-room brawls, get-to-the-treasure race, etc. Keep up the good work....
DM Scotty, your videos have inspired me to craft some stuff for my D&D group. I found out about your videos from your Mantic Games Terrain Crate unboxing video. I was a kickstarter supporter for that run. Anywho, I am working a project that is designed from Dungeon Craft's video (episode #67) for my DM. Though I am looking at combining parts of both Tilescapes and Ultimate Dungeon Terrain. Thank you to both DM's Craft and Dungeon Craft. This has given me some awesome ideas that I think my D&D group will enjoy. P.S. The Surebonder glue gun rocks.
the castle front was amazing.i was thinking about doing something similar with a dm screen style town square that could be folded up but this looks so good .......
DM scotty, you are so awesome!! I just want to say thanks, I've just gotten into d&d, you have provided so many ideas, a lot of other channels rely on pricey materials such as foam for nearly every build and it's so exspencive in the uk that I just can't afford to buy to much of it, plus I really dig the idea of using all the household waste to home my growing minature collection. I salute you! 👊🏼
I am really impressed with your system... been watching out of order, but the flexibility of these crafting styles and ability to adapt to everything from advance dnd to kid crafts to warhammer
This is great! I can see so many ways to expand on this idea. I was never impressed by the 2.5D Next stuff, but I really love what you're doing here. Way to prove you are still the kind of RPG terrain.
I am so happy that I stumbled onto your videos. Thank you for sharing your creativity with the rest of us. My wife ran to the store to pick up some basic supplies so we can get started making tiles for the next session. Keep doing what your doing!
This is very interesting evolution of your original 2.5 D system; it reminds me of some of the old MageKnight stuff but on a much larger scope (and honestly better looking). I'm looking forward to seeing more videos for this.
T.I.T.S. The Isometric Terrain System... What a great name:-) Awesome stuff, Scotty, modular is King, 3d is King, Tits are...ehm...Queen. I love it! Can't wait to watch the next episode.
Great DM Scotty! I'm gearing up to build some 2.5D next stuff but I'm going to hold fast and see where you lead me. Looks like more fun than running from a Rust Monster in full plate.
this is exactly what i was looking for to make my towns instead of making a whole bunch of 2.5d tiles i can just make one or two and swap them out for each building this is awesome
Wow. You have reinvented yourself or you could say this is a hybrid of your previous works. Well done. It reminds me of some of the older video game rpg's I would play on Nintendo and Playstation. Looking forward to more of your inspiring craft.
DM Scotty always comes up with great ideas. I really love this Tilescapes system and am going to work it into my dungeon tile system. Tipping him $10 for this new Tilescape series. I'd tip more but I'm on a limited income.
I really like how the Tilescapes system is totally compatible with 2.5D Next as well. For example, you can just use an array of Tilescape 6x6 tiles for your 2.5D Next mat. And you can use the 1/2" tall modular walls for interior walls to make a quite intricate dungeon within -- even a maze if you want. I am really looking forward to how you do caverns with tilescapes. Do you use a lot of 3x3's and modular curved paper towel type walls? Or maybe have some randomly curved cork 3x3 tiles for the outer border of the cavern and use modular cavern walls for the interior?
I was thinking, you could add some hook velcro to the backs of the tiles and use a large sheet of felt as a play mat to keep the tiles from sliding around and add some background colour for larger scenarios.
This is amazing, as a first time DM in the making I've tried my best to add as many real world elements into my campaign as I can. The main issue being budget but these seem like they will be amazingly helpful!
Very nicely done. Have you ever considered laying down a 1" grind on the floor tiles so you wouldn't have to keep a measuring tape on hand when you play?
Just...wow. I'm a big fan of full 3D, even though I realize that it can get in the way of gameplay. I've always liked the practicality of 2.5D, but it seemed to lack a certain "wow" factor for me. This, however, seems like the perfect compromise between the two approaches (2.75D? lol). In fact, it looks so awesome I wouldn't even feel like I was compromising at all! Really looking forward to seeing more of this approach.
Something you might experiment with- I made some of these with the backs of dollar store placemats. it would be much, much cheaper to work with, the only downfall is that it wouldn't be two sided.
Absolutely beautiful Scotty. One question about the statues on the plinths at 8:58 ... have you shown how they were made in previous vids that I have missed, or are they new? I'd love to know how they were made as they and the pillars really make that room 'pop' for me.
+theDMsCraft Yeah, sorry. I watch a number of your other Tilescapes video and now I get it. Not having to lay down the 2.5d walls will be a time save...but first I have some doors and arches to build. I do see one issue, however, in that I now need to have a number of different sized tiles. In 2.5d, if I want to make a hallway, I can just place the "walls" on the map such that it makes a hallway. Now I need tiles of the appropriate width. I'm guesing that a mix of Tilescaps and 2.5d is the answer. For example, for caves and caverns, I plan to stick with 2.5d as I don't really see how it would work with Tilescapes. If there are now windows or doors or other architecture, it is walls that the make the space. Also, I love how your old 2.5d cavern walls (using the paper towels and construction sand method) make it easy to create natural, bendy caves. For man-mad dungeons without windows or arches, I think I will try to come up with sections of walls with torches to create a similar effect.
theDMsCraft I bet if you covered a foam core board with cheap fleece from walmart you could bottom the squares with velcro. I'm looking for a way to keep the furniture from moving around... because cats.
Scotty, what video do you discuss how to make the wall separators in?? I've watched every episode multiple times and can't find it, only doors and windows!
DM Scotty, they say you find what you need when you're ready ... i'm a fool because i wish i was ready so much sooner. better late than never in this case for sure!
question: anyone on the UK found where to get cork boards from cheap? been looking about and it's seeming that most tiles are hese self adhesive things and that 4 tiles at 6" by 6" and 3mm thick is about £10-12 which is rather steep any other alternatives or advice from ordering online. help me people ? :D
I just say that the edge of the tile is the wall. you can use windows, doors, arches and fronts to help give the space a 3D look without blocking ease of access into the playspace.
This isnt just crafting instruction, this is crafting philosophy and it speaks to me.
So glad it does...Go forth and craft.

Very nicely done. Have you ever considered laying down a 1" grind on the floor tiles so you wouldn't have to keep a measuring tape on hand when you play?
+whiterabbit75 that would be easy to do but I prefer my floors to have interesting designs instead of just squares. I always play gridless.

Well, I meant a grid on top of the design, but to each, his own.

+theDMsCraft I should hope so. You aren't mean enough to withhold information like that.
How does the sheet of foam core perform as a mat for putting these buildings on? Any warping? Buckling when carrying?
Works pretty well...if you store them in a flat stack they stand up.
It can work well as long as you store them flat...I also paint the foamcore sometimes.
Awesome stuff Scotty! thanks. You have a new subscriber

How thick are your walls/doors in this video? Like the ones between the main room and the bedroom? They 1cm? 1/2"?
