    In general, the TI units are faster in response to inputs. This is seen when quickly switching between sonar, downscan, chart, and split screens th-cam.com/users/postUgkxeAxH15LxhjGlg5-CRYqjTGTEH0tbY4vk recommend The Hook units will show some lag on button pushes and screen switching. The big ticket item though is maps. If you install a mapping card such as Navionics or the free C-Map Genesis which has a lot of map detail, then moving around the map with the cursor or when running down the lake can lag significantly on the Hook units, but is seamless with the TI units.

    I know this is an older video but I am just getting back into fishing more seriously now that my girls are raised. When I slowed down my fishing in the 80's the hot new unit was the Hummingbird ID which was an LCD that would show red for fish. Getting back in now i am blown away by the progress made in sonar tech. This is so far the best video i have seen breaking down some of the differences. Thanks

    Thanks for this video, it's probably the best and most informed comparison I've seen. I would love to see both of these units showing the same image. I think that would be the most valid comparison. If someone has them both on their boat, lets see what they are both seeing. I can see the benefits of each and of course the benefit of having both, but if you're a weekend warrior and not getting paid to do this stuff, you might not be able to justify hanging $10,000.00 off the front of your boat so it may be a one or the other decision. Seeing them side by side, showing the same structure, fish, topology, etc., would be very beneficial for us to see the difference between these two and make an informed decision.

      Agreed...on the water footage of the same object will really be huge. My intention was more to compare the technologies against each other. Of course on the water could either confirm my suspicions or prove me completely wrong!

      My buddy has both on his boat. While the 360 is really nice, the Live Scope offers a big advantage to seeing what the fish are doing in real time. Lawren got it right when comparing image quality. They are two different technologies. The biggest downfall I see to the Live Scope is when you need to turn the TM which this video covered as well. I am putting the Live Scope on my boat next week.

      I think the best way to mount them is on another pole rather than the trolling motor. On most boats though this is an inconvenience as it ties up one hand to operate it.

      I initially bought the livescope ice fishing bundle last fall. But I recently picked up kayak fishing for trolling for walleye. I also pole mounted the transducer and it works great. Today I updated for perspective view and made a bracket out of an aluminum bar. I haven't seen much video on perspective view and I'm curious how it's been working.

    Like the review. I would clarify that if you mount the garmin on a independent separate livescope pole from the trolling motor then it doesn't have to follow the way the boat faces or moves. Further spot lock and where you point your boat doesn't matter for the direction of the livescope image as you can direct that separately.

    Wow garmin live scope tilled sideways on a kayak would be amazing. You can quietly roll up to a spot and see fish and cast right to them. Since its probably gunna be a fix position pointed forward in the bow of the kayak you get an amazing view. But since a kayak is much smaller and so maneuverable, with such a wide field of view it wouldn't make it that bad at all. Definitely going to consider this for my kayak now. Now if garmin decide to create a true 360 version with a true round sonar it would be next level game changer.

    I went with mega 360 I fish mainly bass and I think seeing the cover and structure is more important that my lure or fish. But I am impresses by the live scope perspective mode I did not know about that and I can see that being a huge help and comparable to mega 360

    • @InDepthSonar
      @InDepthSonar  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think Mega 360 for structure and LiveScope in forward or down mode is best. But putting both on your boat gets expensive so it is nice that Garmin has this option. And Mega 360 does a good job of marking fish, but just not in real time like LiveScope

  • @arronkowalczyk9869
    @arronkowalczyk9869 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    One important difference in performance to note. Garmin Perspective gives you a 50ft range vs. Humminbird Mega 360 at 125ft. Perspective would be great for video game fishing and shoreline structure, and Humminbird for more offshore structure. I'm leaning towards Mega 360, but it's a close race!

    I just added a detachable mount with shaft, kinda like a trolling motor mount but a lot smaller with a turn handle on top to point the livescope in whatever direction I want. I have a mount on my trolling motor as well so if I know I'm going to be fishing very windy conditions or rough water I use the add on mount if normal conditions I use my trolling motor mount. Not hard to do and when using spot lock you can look anywhere you want with it and no problem. I don't mind the extra work or little bit if trouble changing over when I get the money at the end of the day... Like I said not really any trouble and works great... Unlike 360 the Garmin is real time and you can see the fish react to your bait and that give you a lot of info at times. Enough to make the difference in getting a paycheck or not.

    • @InDepthSonar

    I have a 360 hb, it is excellent if you are only looking for structure view, but as fishing I really don't recommend it all. HB as long time they should upgrade their technology as what Garmin did with livescope perspective even so they didn't do it as 3D or mark fish with different color like Lawrence 3D. Hey Lawren, just love your videos! If one were to use both on the bow, would one need to be on a pole, or could both be on the trolling motor? Also, just curious, what trolling motor are you using. Thanks.

    • @InDepthSonar
      @InDepthSonar  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes you could mount both on the trolling motor if it is an Ultrex. The Garmin Force or Lowrance Ghost don't have a mount you can buy out of the box, but I am sure something could be fabricated to run the "Ultrex Mega 360" on the Force or Ghost. I have a Minn Kota right now.

  • @bigtimearcher1
    @bigtimearcher1 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I'm going to be running both. To start with, I have the livescope mounted to the barrel of my trolling motor head.... until a perspective bracket comes in.
    One limitation I can see coming with the perspective mounting (on trolling motor shaft) is that the livescope transducer most likely will contact the 360 transducer if the trolling motor is raised all the way up. The only remedy I can tell for now is to further limit the height the trolling motor can be raised in shallow water...... Or modify the 360 mount so that transducer is further from the trolling motor shaft.
    Don't forget all of this together will be the weed catcher 5000..... another drawback, but so worth it!!!

    • @InDepthSonar

    Side Imagine (SI) on the trolling motor is extremely beneficial. The video failed to mention that the M360 also works in SI mode. Additionally, you can purchase a Down Imaging mega + unit, add mega 360, and essentially upgrade that unit with a y-cable giving you SI/DI+/2D/M360 at a major cost savings. Oh, and Humminbird's new 2D is a low Q HW true CHIRP with these units. Mega 360 works extremely well in shallow and deeper water (I've tried up to 35ft deep, looks amazing!).
    Many people get around spot lock with a separate mounting setup for livescope. This can be annoying to constantly adjust the direction but it's effective.

    • @InDepthSonar
      @InDepthSonar  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Mega DI+ units will show SI with the Mega 360? I know the SI will do that, but seeing how this isn't a network source I would be surprised if that was the case. If it is that's great though!

    Lawren thank you the comparison. I like the Humminbird because of its clarity and their customer service. The livescope is too fuzzy for me. Lowrance is out of the question. That company will not assist you in your time of need. And I was a long time customer who became a "throw away".

    • @InDepthSonar
      @InDepthSonar  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I agree if it is detail you are after Humminbird is the way to go. They are the only ones that I am aware of that repair units as well. The others just replace so it can get expensive if past warranty. And Lowrance only services for 5 years after initial purchase. After that its "Nothing I can do for you!", which I don't agree with as well.

    The question I have that has not been answered in this video or others that I have watched. I understand how they can be used for fish finding but can these systems be used for sailboat safety. For example; if you are for an anchorage for by boat in the Bahamas where the waters are shallow and grounding is a real threat. Can I use these systems to spot danger ahead in time for me to stop or maneuver the boat if the water becomes too shallow or a coral head pops up? Great job on the video covering this amazing technology.

    You do the greatest job i have ever seen on TH-cam explaining things. I watch them all over and over. Thank You. Why would you chose the Garmin at the console verses the humminbird. I only ask because I very seldom fish from my bow I am always more comfortable fishing from the rear sides of my boat. Guess getting old and can sit done easier if need be

    • @InDepthSonar
      @InDepthSonar  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the kind words! I personally prefer the Garmin for their operating system over the Humminbird. Personally I wouldn't buy a Solix system as my main one because of how annoying they are to use. And I wouldn't buy a Helix system because they aren't touchscreen. I don't really like Garmin's menu system either as Lowrance's is by far the most well thought out menu. But they don't have the same sonar abilities of Garmin or Humminbird.
      Again this is all just my personal opinion and its not right or wrong, just my thoughts/feelings. Humminbird sells a ton of Helix units because there are a lot of people who disagree with me on touchscreen and prefer to have a non touch unit. In that case a Helix main system and a Garmin up front with Panoptix Livescope would work.
      Give me an apple phone and I find it so frustrating to use because the Android system makes more sense to me. The next guy will be the opposite.
      My recommendation is always to get to a store that has all the units on display so you can play with them. Then decide which technologies you'll use the most based on how you'll fish. My videos are always coming from a tournament/serious recreational bass anglers perspective because that's how I think. A walleye guy or a salmon trolling guy would be able to use the same units, just differently. Hope that makes sense :)

    Lawren, I need to locate a sunk boat in about 75' of saltwater. The current varies from slack tide to about 4 knts in this area. If I was just drifting in my search boat, would moving at the currents 4 knts provide the speed needed to get a good screen shot? Which unit do you think would be both easiest to use and most accurate in this situation?

    • @InDepthSonar
      @InDepthSonar  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      4knots will put you right in the ballpark to get a good image. If the boat is large you'll find it even if you are going faster. If it is a small boat (under 15') speed will be more crucial.
      Any of the units out there today will do what you need. Lowrance Active Imaging will give you the best detail over the largest distance. However, Humminbird and Garmin will provide you with the highest detail, but won't go as far as the Lowrance while maintaining detail.

    Pair the mega 360 with an ultrex mount, and then get a transducer rod for the live scope. Yes and not. Personally for bass fishing I don't find those practical so we're stuck with the trolling motor issue. However, if you can handle letting go of your rod to adjust the pole, then obviously it removes the issue I mentioned

    The point about the difficulties of having the Livescope LVS32 on the trolling motor whilst spot locking for example is easily fixed - you use either a retail prong or make your own (easily) and have complete control from the helm. The smart money is having fully control over the LVS32 - I could never see the sense in having the transducer on an electric motor with spot lock and heading lock etc... Cheers

    Ok, I'm in. Now that Garmin has the GT56 transducer, I've decided it's time for a full upgrade. Garmin at the bow and consul for sidescan , charting, 2D, etc. HB with 360 at the bow for the 360 only. AND, my frustrating MG Xi5 goes away and in comes a new Garmin Force TM. Love the MG Xi5 in every way except that foot pedal, that thing sucks. Otherwise, its a great TM but you have to have a good foot pedal.

    • @54Burg
      @54Burg ปีที่แล้ว

      Did you end up getting a Force TM? If so, any thoughts/review? I am going all Garmin graphs, but I found the Force TM foot pedal to be very tight/small. I have a size 12 foot...not massive...and my foot (in a deck boot) hang over the pad and accidently pushes buttons. Inadvertent button pushes can be dangerous, so it has given me serious pause on the Force. I might have to go Minn Kota due to the better (safer?) pedal. Unfortunately, I'd lose the networked boat. Tough call.

    • @AX-Driver
      @AX-Driver ปีที่แล้ว

      @@54Burg yes, got it. I'm a size 11.5 shoe. I can't use my normal big shoes very well. I either go shoeless, or I use a pair of Vans which have a small sole. Either works very good. Having the TM networked isn't much of a benefit for me. I've played with that, but I don't use it as networked when I'm fishing. In other words, I don't control my TM from the graphs. That just proved cumbersome. Though if following a contour line from the graph, it would be necessary. I decided I didn't need/want to do that.
      My only complaint with the Force is that when I spot lock, it backs up to where I was some seconds prior. It's annoying. To cure it, I hit spot lock, wait a few seconds, hit it again to turn it off, then turn it on again. That seems to keep it from backing up. My motorguide TM was much better with it's spot lock. I'll give the Force a B. It does not deserve an A.

I can't decide if either are worth the money for someone who only fishes for fun 2-3 times a week max. Primarily for largemouth. Here's my question(s) about 360. Is is worth it or someone like me? Or is it better to just get a quality downscan/sidescan unit? Do you need two units on the bow? Every video I see seems to have two? Can you toggle between 360 and other views on one unit? Thanks for any guidance you can offer.

    • @InDepthSonar
      @InDepthSonar  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would get a sonar/GPS first, then SideScan, then LiveScope, then 360. But it all depends on how you fish so your order may be different. Anything is better than nothing so if you get LiveScope over 360 its not a bad decision and if you get 360 over LivesScope that's not a bad decision.
      If you fish once a year both technologies are worth it, if you can afford it. It really comes down to how much you want to invest in it personally.
      You DO NOT need two units on the bow. I have run two before on several boats, but you can easily get away with one unit. I ran one unit on my last boat and it was an 8" screen and was enough for Panoptix, SideScan, GPS etc.
