    I have the older Garmin ps22 and caught a lot of fish because of it and can't hardly wait to use my own livescope. Livescope is the best I've seen yet... Used a friend's, pulled up to a bridge and thought that one side would have a lot of fish on it and was surprised to see nothing on it. Went to the other end and could see that they all must have migrated there for it was loaded up with fish. Had an awesome day. Thanks Garmin.

    Sometimes it's NECESSARY to jump ship... I've been a Lowrance user for 30-yrs and it's A M A Z I N G ! ! ! What Garmin has to offer V.S. Lowrance... I'll have a " LiveScope " on my boat next season. I'm waiting til February just in case something NEWER comes from Garmin, and the Sportsman's Show SPECIAL... This was an EXCELLENT Video. I wish you were here in Portland Or. I'd pay for on the Water training, you seem to understand this product front and back. Thanks Again...

    I have the Garmin with 9" Echomap and love it! Detail is amazing. Range is exceptional. After watching the video, I honestly wouldn't waste my time with the lowrance. I would feel like I am drunk looking at that blurry screen for hours. Is the Garmin more expensive? Yeah. But if your trying to save dollars, why are you even looking at these sonars? Go buy a Humminbird Helix 7 if your on a budget. I switched to Humminbird for open water years ago. Had Lowrance and think they have been doing nothing but catch up for the last 6-10 years.

      I haven't heard if they are going to have anything soon. However if they do and it is as good as LiveScope they are really going to give Garmin a run with Mega 360 and a Real Time sonar option. Then they'll just need a good touch screen unit to go with it

    The history lesson was great. Just speculating here, the LV32 is named as such as there are 3 transducers (3 surfaces) to be used for forward or down, hence the 2. The images from the 3 are stitched or compiled together and the position of the transducer determines down or forward and not specifically one of the sides. LV12 is one transducer hence the one, but can be used forward or down (the 2) and why it’s essentially a third of the price. You get what you pay for seems to hold here.

    Ive been a lowrance user for over 20years but I decided to switch when I asked a rep with the live scope work with my Gen 3 that I bought not so long ago.I asked them if they were bought by Apple or something when he said no I had to have a one of the newer units. Also by looking at the live sight vids I'm totally shocked that they would release such crap knowing it looks awful. " Your going tobe able to see the fish tails moving" yeah right. They should have done way more with it before releasing it

    • @InDepthSonar
      @InDepthSonar  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      One of the most impressive things I found while researching for this video was the wide compatibility that Garmin offers for LiveScope. Its amazing how many units work with it. Nice to see them future proofing older products.

    Good info... Garman seems to have it, but I still can't afford it, or even the Spot Lock type trolling motors..... Just have to fish the old school way....I'm happiest when I catch fish when I don't know for sure they are down there. If I win the lottery with a bunch of money to burn, sure, I'll get the latest and greatest. My Garmin Striker 7 plus, was a big $$$ item for me.... The Lowrance come angle is 40x90. Garmin is 130x20. That alone is the difference in clarity, the Lowrance, width-wise, is showing you twice the information. Not saying that’s better or worse, I think that’s purely subjective.

    • @InDepthSonar
      @InDepthSonar  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      For sure. I agree that the Lowrance will give you much more coverage in the water column but you will sacrifice bottom detail. Its like using your traditional sonar on 83kHz vs 200kHz. You see more fish and better arches on 83, but 200 is more detailed. Based on this I think the Lowrance will give you a better chance at seeing your lure coming back to the boat.

    Have been watching ICAST and waiting and waiting for Humminbird to compete. It is interesting to see the patent infringements and who has sued who. Come to the conclusion that Humminbird is trapped in the patents. You have put together the best video comparing Garmin to Lowrance. Big question is where does Humminbird fit in. I love my Mega DI/SI but Garmin will soon own the front deck unless Humminbird gets with the program. Thanks again.

    I just installed a Livesight transducer and took it out this weekend to try out. Is it Livescope no, its more like the 2nd gen panoptics. I think you are right. The angle and transducer are the difference. Garmins transducer is 3 different angles and Lowrance looks like one. I am looking at this transducer as another tool to add to my belt. Great video man.

    I own all Lowrance gear, HDS gen2 9 and 7 and HDS Gen3 12 with 3D transducer. Have the motor guide xi5 with pinpoint and I am going to buy a Garmin They are far advanced graphics wise. I called Lowrance a couple days ago to give them the opportunity to convince me to stay and they had nothing. The Ghost trolling motor was on my to buy list this year as well but they skipped the remote control. I’d have preferred to stay loyal but when you’re not keeping up with or at least close to the competition then you’re going to lose. Also as a side note Lowrance said no military discount Garmin said yes. That may not be a big deal to most but I think it’s a nice thing. Goodbye Lowrance and hello Garmin.

    • @InDepthSonar
      @InDepthSonar  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      When you are at the top its easy to fall to innovative technologies like Garmin has. Hopefully Garmin can continue to maintain their position by constantly innovating. Lowrance is going to have to introduce some very innovative and effective sonar options to try and get that top spot back. SpotlightScan and LiveSight haven't done that so far.

    Really informative video. No contest on the comparisons, Pan Livescope clearly better. I'm thinking ahead to open water fishing, not just ice fishing. Last summer was unproductive due to the fact I had limited time to get out and find fish so results were hit and miss. LVS gives you the ability to find numbers of fish faster for more success. I don't keep a lot of fish but 1 or 2 for supper is always good. It's a game changer.

    The reason why Garmin is coming out swinging is they dominate the saltwater market. Not just for fishing boats but a multitude of sizes and types. They take what they learned from salt to fresh and I'm sure the dominance will be established in the freshwater market. Are they expensive? Maybe. Is the cost worth it.... Yep. I have yet to buy a boat however considering the performance of the Garmin units I'd go with them. Also Garmin came out with it's own trolling motor they are super quiet.

    The curved image is because of distance traveled by the sound waves. The unit is focused to give you the best image at the center of the screen much like my day to day work as a phased array ut tech the only exception is in my unit for looking thru metal for imperfections I can adjust each element to fire at different times to account for that. I can do that because it’s a known thickness they can’t because the water depth is changing all the time and if the did the technology that it would take no one would ever be able to afford it.

    A seemingly clear comparison, yet in the comments there is a bit of contradiction, you praise the Lowrance in the comments, but clearly criticize it in a forthright, concise fashion in the video. You should redo the video, in my opinion, to truly reflect your opinion.

    • @InDepthSonar
      @InDepthSonar  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Bottom line. LiveScope is better at detail and design. Lowrance would do a better job at fish detection due to the wider beam. Both would have application, but I'd buy the LiveScope hands down for all applications.

    I bought two HDS 9 Live units right before the Livesight transducer was released. I was sold based on Lowrance’s teaser videos. Boy was I duped. Now I’m selling both units. I would go Garmin but their mapping is horrendous where I live and Navionics doesn’t sell a map card for Garmin that covers my area. This is incorrect. The LVS32 must always be connected through a GLS10 box. The LVS12 will plug into the 8600 series and echomap Ultra 10" and 12" unit. The difference is the angle on the LVS32 vs LVS12. I am pretty sure I covered that in this video.

      Screen resolution isn't talked about much at all anymore in sonar units. For the most part they are high enough for what they do even on the low end scale. The only major exception I have found to that is the Garmin Echomap units, especially the touch screen ones. They are noticeable lower resolution than the comparable models.
      Back in the day when you went from 240x240 to 480x480 it was a massive difference your your eye. going from 800x480 to 800x640 isn't as much of a difference to your eye for the most part. Until you see a unit that is so much clearer than anything else you don't really notice it. Go look at a HDS Live 9 and then a 7 or 12 and you'll see how much nicer that screen is.

    Not sure if you still check these comments, but it appears that the 73CV is not compatible with the "Livescope" just the PS22 (which the just call panoptix). Is this right? I think your video says the 73CV are compatible with the Livescope.

    • @InDepthSonar

      It all depends which 73cv. If it's the echomap 73cv, the echomap chirp 73cv then yes you are correct. If it is the echomap plus 73cv or echomap Ultra 73cv then the PS22 and LiveScope will both work.

      I'd look at the 8600 series personally. I like them because they have the fastest processor in the. The Echomap Ultra units are good as well, and the 942xs or 742xs if you want to keep the price down. Also, depends on what else you have on the boat and what plans you'd have to add more Garmin units in the future. You'd want to consider those things for networking in the future

      @@Smokeyr67 Yes I thought that would be natural thing to do Shane when you're washing down the rest of your boat. My biggest concern would be whether or not the Stainless Steel and other components used in the construction are up to the task of a saltwater environment, is the stainless steel used a high grade stainless or not ?. Specs said it's for "Freshwater Use" and only later did they add that the warranty will cover for saltwater use. Sorry it makes me think that it was design for freshwater lakes in the U.S. for Bass fishing and to move more units they added the saltwater use to the warranty. I have no doubt the trolling motors would out last the warranty but I would prefer a product that is designed for that environment and will last for 10 years or more.
