    Border View Farms is a mid-sized family farm that sits on the Ohio-Michigan border. My name is Nathan. I make and edit all of the videos posted here. I farm with my dad, Mark and uncle, Phil. Our part-time employee, Brock, also helps with the filming. 1980 was our first year in Waldron where our main farm is now. Since then we have grown the operation from just a couple hundred acres to over 3,000. Watch my 500th video for a history of our farm I filmed with my dad.
    I started making these videos in the fall of 2019 as a way to help show what I do on a daily basis as a farmer. Agriculture is different from any other industry and I believe the more people that are showing their small piece of agriculture, helps to build our story. We face unique challenges and stressful situations but have some of the most rewarding payoffs in the end. I get to spend everyday doing what I love, raising my kids on the farm, and trying to push our farm to be better every year. I hope that I can address questions or concerns that you might have about farms and agriculture.
    I hope you enjoy my content and ask questions as you have them. I do my best to answer anything I can. Thanks for watching!
    I appreciate you subscribing to my channel and liking my videos. You can also find me on Facebook borderviewfarms and on Instagram @borderviewfarms

    Great economic analysis of double crop beans. The attention to detail for all possible benefits and detractors was impressive. Another viable option for a revenue stream if the soybean plants fail to add pods is to bale the plants for livestock forage. There are a number of online postings explaining pros, cons, and best practices to harvest the crop for an acceptable feed value. For credibility, I found the University of Kentucky Ag Department published an article about the subject.

    Yes i like to plant at a small angle but 15inch wheat helps that more. Hopefullly this fall will plant wheat with rtk and come back with rtk on the beans and offset planting

    Great vid, something I didn't hear mentioned is I don't imagine you can insure those double crops. I'm literally one county far enough south I can get insurance on my double crop beans so I have a little bit of a fall back.

    Great video! I'm just curious when your yearly plant date and last planting date is for crop insurance? I'm sure you've went over it before but for corn in the U.P for me it's April 25 start and June 5th end before losing % of coverage.

    • @BorderViewFarms
      @BorderViewFarms  ปีที่แล้ว

      Corn April 10th to June 5th, beans April 20th to June 20th I think. Double crop are not insurable here.

    Hi Nathan today I found a study made by OSU stating: "Projected returns above variable costs (contribution margin) range from $109 to $240 per acre for corn and $179 to $337 per acre for soybeans. Projected returns above variable costs for wheat range from $152 to $262 per acre". Could be possible in your opinion to skip corn production and focusing on soybeans and wheat only?

    • @justinemagson1767
      @justinemagson1767 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can just keep banging in wheat though too tough on the soil year after year. Take all, other disease build up and nutrient drain plus too much risk in budgeting on double crop beans I would say would all be factors. Hence an 85 acre ‘experiment’ as opposed to make or break
