    The LED light draws much less amperage after it has gotten warmed up (which explain why it works the first time but not again shortly afterwards) and the digital light controller in the combine likely thinks there is a problem. The easiest thing to do is add another load to that circuit - maybe double up the LED lights or add the original light back on along with the new LED light. It is similar issue to why LED taillights lights retrofitted on a vehicle cause the blinker to malfunction (either blink rapidly or not blink at all) -- the LED lights do not put enough of a load on the blinker for it to work correctly.

    • @master180t
      @master180t 5 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      KCautodoctor is correct but just head to autozone and grab a load resistor kit for taillights and spice one into the auger light wiring.

    • @GoldPicard
      @GoldPicard 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I've had that same problem on the many older used cars I've owned, because while I won't do too many changes to the car one of the things I always do is replace all the halogen lights with LEDs because of the reduced power draw and also that LEDs nowadays are amazingly reliable. But yeah because of the reduced power draw I usually have to add a resistor into the line or tie some lights together to increase power draw and not have the blinker problem.

    • @aleininger4987
      @aleininger4987 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Led lights cause goofy problems with computers when they expect a larger load. Had a customer with a mid 2000s suburban that he put led tail light bulbs in and it caused the cruise control to not work. That was a fun one to figure out.

    • @smokejumper0110

      X2 for putting in a resistor.

    • @stubbi
      @stubbi 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yup, same for my old bike. Needed a resistor or another LED. In this case as you need the light, I'd recommend another LED on the same circuit or a single, bigger one.

    As a city boy, and a Navy vet, Could you shoot a short video explaining how the Corn head actually works, as far as removing Kernels from the cob? And then one on the soybean head explaining how that works to extract the beans from the plants? I would appreciate it! TY in advance.

      I’d be interested in how the corn head actually chops up the stalks, we don’t farm corn up here. The header doesn’t remove corn from cob that is all done in the combine. As for the bean header it cuts the plant stalk off very close to the the ground, the spinning reel keeps the the plants from falling forward once they’re cut, the auger then pulls the entire plant, pods and beans into the combine. The combine then does the separation/threshing. The headers only cut the crop, and feed it into the combine.

    • @navythomas8
      @navythomas8 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That is great information!

    • @techHmrk
      @techHmrk 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Header for corn removes cobs from the stalk. It is done by two cylinders, which holds the plant in between and as they are rolling, plant goes to the ground, and in this motion, stable knives removes a corncob. Rest of the plant is chopped by a small chopper, which is under every row on the header. It is because for combine it is hard (and unnessecary) to deal with tall and hard corn plant. Sorry, hard to explain in EN for me.

All the issues that arise from simply trying to take 1 field, and how hard it is to really get the crops taken, its really makes you appreciate everything they do to harvest up all the things they(you) do that help make this world go round. Keep up the awesome videos. I stalk my youtube feed daily for your videos and I simply can not get enough farm action. #gotime!

You should do one on how you troubleshoot grain loss, grain tank quality, and what to adjust to improve grain loss, unthreshed grain, grinding and damaging grain. I upgraded from a 9500 to a 9570 STS. I'm slowly getting the hang of fine tuning the settings but it's a totally different machine. Just a suggestion for a future video. Stay safe out there.

    Zach,
    The ecu driver for that light is sensing an OPEN ( FMI .03) the fault code SPN 523589 FMI 03, is indicating that the voltage is out of range high, meaning not enough load on that circuit and it thinks its OPEN. since going from incandescent light to an LED light, the resistance is much less, especially when the light is "warm". adding another light might help or a load equalizer/ resistor to add that load back to the circuit. hope you continue to have a good and safe harvest.

    To add to what KCautodoctor was writing. You are operating a can-bus tractor. It has sensors for everything. In this case you replaced the previous incandescent light with a much more efficient LED light that doesn't draw as much current after initial load. To figure out how much current your old light was drawing you take the watts and divide them by 14 (volts dc). So if you had a 50 watt lamp you divide by 14 volts (running tractor volts) you had a 3.57 Amp (or just round up to 4 amp) incandescent lamp. So you can either add more LED lights to that circuit to increase the current you draw to keep the combine computer happy or you can put a resistor in-line.
    Those are all theoretical watts on the lamp, I have no idea what it was, it's best guess for what I have seen on other tractors. It could be written on the old incandescent lamp or Deere could tell you. Resistors are fairly cheap, and you are going to want one with a heat sink. Without knowing how much current you are drawing with your newly installed LED light I would blindly recommend these resistors. If its too much resistance the worst thing it will do is make the LED look dimmer. www.amazon.com/4PCS-ARTR-6ohm-Load-Resistors/dp/B00UNG3EXQ/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1539806035&sr=8-2&keywords=led+taillight+resistor
    Another option is you could mount one of those off-road country boy LED light bars to the side of the combine and have your own portable night sun to light up the night. Those things pull enough current to keep the Deere ECU happy and you will look like a UFO streaking across your field at night. www.amazon.com/Auxbeam-Tri-row-200pcsHigh-Intensity-Trains/dp/B01M0M9CSB/ref=sr_1_17?s=automotive&ie=UTF8&qid=1539806947&sr=1-17&keywords=led+light+bar

    • @OHWRDAMI1
      @OHWRDAMI1 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Also something to keep in mind LED "Watts" don't always equate to real world watts. A lot of LED manufacturers, especially from China will rate their LEDs in 'equivalent lumen watts'. So they will say a work light is 50 Watts when in reality it produces the same amount of light or equivalent based on their opinion as a 50 watt lamp. When it reality it may only actually draw 10 watts. 50 actual Watts in LED is fairly serious and it usually comes with a massive heat sink to help keep the LEDs cool, so make sure you read the fine details and specifications if you plan on adding more lights to your rig.

  • @craigsharfenberg4517
    @craigsharfenberg4517 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    LED lights are a lower wattage. If the combine is not getting the right resistance back it won't turn the light on again. Have your tuner correct the ECU to look for a lower wattage. Should get you going. Switch out that light on the auger side of the combine with a LED too!

    Just a guess from an old electronics guy. I expect the old lamp was incandescent and the lamp system is expecting a certain current draw for that lamp, the LED lamp takes less current so the system thinks there is a problem. Perhaps there is a setting that can be adjusted, or failing that, parallel a resistor across it to draw the expected current. Could also be that the relay that drives the lamp, if its is a solid state relay, may have a similar issue. Its not at all uncommon when retrofitting LED lamps in almost anything. Most common is that they don't turn OFF. The leakage current through a solid state relay is enough to keep the lamp lit.

    I’m glad to see a farmer in your area is smart enough to go red. I was almost convinced that all Minnesota was green. 😂😂😂😂. Just kidding, I was born and raised red but I think any color can do a great job harvesting in today’s world. Hope you can run lots and lots of crops!!!!

    When I put led’s on mine, I made separate circuit directly from the battery and put a switch in the cab. Auger, hopper, and two bars in the front.

    We have two Deere 9870s, had three but traded one towards a 2016 s680, fallen in love with it, much better than the old ones with a pick up header, performs same on straight cut header but way smoother, quieter

    LED draws alot less power. ECU Notices the load difference and takes it as a fault. A 6ohm resistor should work perfect. 6ohm at 12v will draw around 24watts. Your last light was probably around 30-40w so 24w resistor plus the 10ish watt LED you have should do just fine.

    Do you have any other LED lights in that combine? It is possible that you need to program the combine so it understands the low resistance of the led light and doesn't just think that the bulb is bad.

      If that doesn't work he could install a resistor ( if it is called that) in between te cables to trick the system.

    Had to smile your saying when they wrap on the auger because I say tough just as you do. Then I think in an hour the freeze will let them run another hour or two. Remember those nights well. 👍
