    Active fingers with the support of the arm is the most essential technique any serious pianist needs to master. The subtle balance of weight distribution between the fingers and the arms is extremely difficult to execute but it’s the key to effortless and accurate playing.

    Zimmerman is a real teacher. I love his recording of the Ravel piano concerto, and especially the 2nd movement which seems to be so difficult for a lot of concert pianists to play really sensitively….Zimmerman makes you melt, especially with the flute, oboe, and clarinet who’s solos are so gorgeous, and the strings, which shimmer, barely audible, underneath. After hearing that, I was sold on Zimmerman!

    This playing with active fingers is the opposite to the rotation technique of Taubman where the fingers almost do nothing. Both methods seem to work dependant on the piece you have to play. Zimerman is one of the best pianists of all time - so he can't be totally wrong.

    it's very important to START with the right technic school because then will be difficult to correct wrong attitudes.

      Absolutely!

    • @PianistTanooki
      @PianistTanooki หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, it is. Unfortunately, many people don’t realize that they’re, for example, incredibly tense because this is the only way they’ve been brought up and have never felt what it is like to truly play without unnecessary tension.

    This is the old way of legato teaching. It doesn't work. It is just suffering. I learnt a better way. I use my weight. The whole body drags itself across the notes. It works so much better and no suffering.
