  • When a split-second lapse could spell disaster, what does it take to be a top gun piloting F-15s and F-16s? The Republic of Singapore Air Force gives On The Red Dot unprecedented access to its 8-man team training for its 50th anniversary air spectacle.

    About the series:
This year, as the Republic of Singapore Air Force celebrates its 50th anniversary, On the Red Dot brings you unprecedented access into Southeast Asia’s top air force. We follow a group pilots as they train intensively over three months to prepare for the Golden Jubilee aerobatic display - the biggest aerial show of the year. We also meet the air men and women dedicated to keeping Singapore safe from potential threats. And we find out what it takes to become the nation’s top guns. Top Guns 1 - F-15 pilot Shooter is new to aerobatic flying and is a late addition to the aerial display team. He only has half the practice time of his team-mates to perfect his manoeuvres for the Golden Jubilee performance - and has to earn the trust of his cockpit partner, Splice. Meanwhile on a patrol flight F-15 pilot Flash faces off an unknown intruder in the skies. Is he friend or foe?

Im always one of those spectators that feel that "WOW They are so cool doing all sorts of formations in the sky" But Ive never really put a serious thought on how much training the pilots have to go through to be able to showcase that kind of complicated formation to the crowd. Great job:)

It’s misleading to call this squadron “Top Gun”. The US Navy Fighter Weapons School (THE REAL TOPGUN) trains their fighters for air combat and defensive combat maneuvers, also known as Dogfighting. Not air shows. I’m sorry if it disappoints you but that’s the truth.

Spoofy Tofuwu If you want to be a Fighter Pilot in the airforce you have to sign up as a regular and sign a 10 YEAR BOND with the RSAF, during your time as an NSF, representatives from the RSAF will come to visit you for a recruitment talk and explain how it all works, they will hand out forms you so you can indicate your interests to sign up. If you indicate your interest to join, a few days/weeks later you will have to take the COMPASS test ( I can't tell you what it is ) to see if you are eligible to join. Then later when you are close to ORD they will call you up and ask if you want to join the airforce ( If you passed the COMPASS test ), you either reply yes or no to them, I don't know what happens next.

It’s one of the most lethal airforce in asean and rank amongst the TOP in quality against world big players. Singapore joins in the international war games yearly and have exchanges with UK, USA, Australia etc and have always came out as the winner against them who developed the jets. The war games are much more tougher than what would truly happen in war and dogfights those are scenarios termed to never exist.

secondly, what does busting your ass and mendaki have to do with each other. your part time job is obviously due to a cut in your allowance. mendaki provide subsidies for school fees not allowance. unless of course u work part time to pay for your school fees and support yourself indefinitely then i suggest seeking help or getting a scholarship.

@@Ethan-bp6wp its very well known that Singapore dunt accept malays in the airforce... but well in the history there are only 2 malays whom i known ever that ever make it into RSAF maybe pure luck not sure...1 M. Zakir in 1992 became a transport pilot another 1 Lt. Yusri in 2001 if not wrong... in the whole history of Singapore only 2 Malays lol

@@muhammadsaiful8451 Not really true. To say that Cln. Zakir and Lt. Yusri got in theough "pure luck" is just plain wrong. Those guys were very determined and smart. Im a malay and i think that one of the reasons mamy of us dont enter the RSAF is because of our underperformance in terms of academics, especiallt mathematics which is extremely important in the skillset of a fighter pilot (It is improving though). Being a fighter pilot isnt easy, one should be academically inclined, fit, have passion and have the proper aptitude of a fighter pilot.

to say that RSAF is racist is abit harsh lah bro , there are malay pilots in RSAF , a while back , a malay f16 fighter pilot was revealed and there even malay pilots in RSAF that are now trainers. Its not exactly racist of SAF , its just that we don't meet their requirements and pass background screening. Especially for High risk vocations like fighter pilots in RSAF or Commandos in Army. there are malays , indians too. these vocations cost govt. alot of money so they sre very cautious and strict with choosing who can join. if u meet their requirements and pass screening ; then congrats u qualify for the high risk vocations.
