    Next take a ride through on If You Could Fly, with a new live audio mix
    See the changes made for Dreamflight, it’s design and construction and then take a Dreamflight with an all new edit from walk in to walk out, with new and enhanced footage and a source audio mix
    After Take Flight! opens and closes, see the changes made for Buzz Lightyears Space Ranger Spin, and then a split screen real time comparison of If You Had Wings, Dream Flight and Space Ranger Spin.

    Dreamflight represented what I miss most about old Disney, the occasional weird attraction you stumble across that somehow becomes one of your favorites. It’s missing those non disneyfied attractions that are so much more unique than the character driven stuff we already know

      @josephbrown9685 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      This is the perfect summation of what I miss about old Disney. Some of those old attractions were so quirky and corny but in a charming way. I particularly liked Dreamflight’s theme song. I hope at least some classic WDW stays around for a long time.

      I miss old Disney and I don't know that we are ever going to get it back. I loved the mix of NON Disney stuff and "If you had Wings" is one of my most nostalgic and favorite rides. I don't particularly like the new rides they've come out with.

    • @ExpandingSound
      @ExpandingSound 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@pilotbeckett nah it can never come back. unfortunately they don’t do anything that they don’t think will bring back a maximum return. it’s just cold hard business. The fun naivety of weird old rides where they were just trying things out to see if they would work is gone

    By far the most important part of this ride is that IT WAS FREE and COLD! You didn't even have to use an "A" ticket. This ride had THE BEST air conditioning. That's critically important as you'd know if you've spent a summer outside in Florida. I loved the ride too. The speed run part was awesome!

    • @finster1968
      @finster1968 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes! I remember this ride always had people on it continuously. However, because of the way it was designed, it moved along without the need for start/stop boarding. It was always a sure bet you could take a break from the brutal heat and not wait more than 10 minutes to sit down, relax and cool off. Later when they opened Epcot, Disney must’ve taken note since they developed even more rides matching this format.

So, THANK YOU "Eastern Airlines" for sponsoring this ride at it's beginnings. I've been going to WDW since 1972 and have been living here in Florida since 1973..... :~) P.S. I remember my good friend, Imagineer Tom Scherman telling me (1990) that he worked on some of the models for Dreamflight. Tom also worked on the 20K Nautilus walkthrough for France. He passed away many years ago, but was a 20K expert, and knew Harper Goff very well. Tom's dream was to see (in part, his) "Discovery Bay" realized at Disneyland.

    interesting tidbit about the vocals:
    The theme song was recorded by Gloria Kaye (occasionally credited mistakenly as Gloria Bellis (her husband’s last name)), who did “New Hroizons” for Horizons, “we’ve come so far” for Space mountain, and the 1993 unload version of “There’s a Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow” for Walt Disney’s Carousel of Progress. For some reason though, when delta dropped sponsorship, they had somebody record new vocals for the attraction. Why I’m not sure. Contract? Availability conflict? Offer declined? Cost? Who knows.

    Hi Martin, this is a really good compilation of the history of this ride. Although the Space Ranger Spin is great for today's modern era, the Dreamflight still holds near and dear to my heart.
    I did see that you used my upload as part of this compilation, which I do appreciate since my grandfather (who was the one who recorded at that time) did occasionally stop the recording. I don't know if it was the camcorder back in the day or what since it was 1991, but the recording is as you had seen it. I do appreciate the credit, but just to clarify my username in case anyone has tried to look up my Dreamflight video, there is a 2006 at the end of my username handle. But regardless, great video and great compilation of a very good ride at Disney World. Thanks again!

    I'm curious as to how they changed the lyrics to Dreamflight when they renamed it to Take Flight (I could barely hear the new theme song in the video). Could you please post the lyrics to Take Flight, or better yet, link to the song itself?
    Thanks so much, and thanks for your awesome, detailed videos: I always look forward to the next one! 😃

      Its a whole different world when you take flight going free as a bird in the sky. Lift off your dreams to a new height you can go anywhere when you fly. Theres a gateway to adventure, in the endless sky so blue!

    Okay, now I'm just curious how you got High Quality tracks of Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin. They just sound so clear as compared to else on TH-cam!

    I remember riding "If you had wings" in the late 70s. the song would then be stuck in your head all day. Thanks for you work, Martin!

    Once the video transitions to discussing Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin, you use music from the ride in the video. Could you tell me where you found this music? As far as I know, you're the only person online who has posted those songs online or at least in such high quality. I would love to have access to those rips of the songs as well.

    3D theatre presentation missing. lost maybe. obviously optimises theatre design specifically for movie had a tethered yellow kite move towards viewer, to middle of auditorium. judging by audience reaction, majority saw the near perfect stereo image.
    what next? - m'be Star Trek experience? )- if Paramount would agree...
