Amazing writing. The boy tries to find his friend through the wrinkles, blemishes, and all other things we experience in life that changes us both physically and emotionally. The one thing we retain is our youthful exuberance and joy: our smile. This is when he recognizes him. I’m 35 years old and this is still one of the most beautiful scenes to me in anything I’ve ever seen.
I’m your age and loved this movie as a kid. Years later I see why… the sets are elaborate and you can tell how much effort was put into them. There’s no way I could have seen this movie the way I do as an adult now, and it’s amazing to revisit it and see the other “side” of the movie. It’s almost like two movies in one in that sense. No one cares about Peter’s story as a kid. Now it’s both tragic and heartwarming. Also I do not at recall remembering Spielberg directed this.
I am also 35 I for got how joyful it was to be a kid I just watch this movie yesterday It been A long time since I watch it as a kid I cried at this scene when he found him because of a force smile 😊 😊
100% i’m 32 and this was and still is my favourite childhood movie. everything about this movie was stellar, the cast, speilburg, john williams, robin, hoskins, hoffman, roberts, maggie smith
It's a perfect, beautiful scene... the simple concept of reuniting with your childhood friends so many many years later when you've grown up but to them it's as if you've never left and it was only yesterday since they last saw you but they still recognise you and care for you... Great scene!
I sometimes thought before, that this part made me cry when The Lost boys saw that Peter Pan was a man now and thought that he wouldn't have wanted to grow up!
This scene gives me a weird fuzzy warm feeling on the back of my head and goosebumps - idk why but it’s the most powerful scene from any movie ever for me
This is one of the greatest movie scenes in cinematic history and gets me every time. Nobody believes he’s Peter Pan except for one. He knows that’s his friend from years ago but just gotta look through all that life has done to him. The way the kids face lights up when he recognizes his smile is very moving.
Maybe it's a lot of nostalgia, but a closer look at this amazing scene I can not understand this is Spielberg's least favorite. One of my favorite movie moments of all time
It came out when I was 3 and this is Spielbergs least favorite because it flopped at the box right before Jurassic park. My favorite childhood movie of all time
Yeah this was also one of my favorite scenes. The amazing thing about this scene is how the lost boys cant seem to recognize Peter, until he is actually forced to smile. Its such an unspoken point, but very telling about the character dynamic. Peter has become an adult, unrecognizable and cold toward children. HIs boys only recognize him through his adult appearance when he smiles, thats how they remembered him.
wow never spotted that.... i just thought along the lines of a face lift....but yes...its the smile. Perhaps a smile is a natural face lift (young at heart etc).
Was about these kids age when it came out… and it’s almost like we came back to visit and we’ve grown old after promising not to. It’s all still just how we remember it.
It gives me the warm and fuzzies literally nothing else can do except the gentle touch of my lady. Weird though it is it’s true. Something primal and touching about it
This scene is beautiful..from the one lost boy that stays with him..to the other kids wanting him to be pan so bad they take the word of their youngest member..to the way rufio steps forward..then again showing rufio actually feeling that pain..and on top of that the music..omg the music
The clips of the remake were so awful and dark I had to come back here to soothe my senses. Yes there was plenty of danger in Neverland in past iterations of Peter Pan, but there was still whimsical magic and colorfulness too!I'm sick of everything getting the edgy riverdale treatment.
I came back to this scene after watching this with my 8 year old son. Let me tell you, I've seen this movie 100times growing up.This is the most heart touching and beautiful scene in any movie ever written, period. R.I.P Robin Williams, thank you for making my childhood so special ❤
Peter and this kid must’ve been very close when he was a young kid still living in Neverland. Also I like to think that all the boys who huddled around him were the original lost boys. Atleast I think that’s what they went for when making this movie
I can definitely see what you mean as out of all the kids only they ran over to Peter when they realized it was him but I like to think that during the gala scene the men who stood up for Wendy before anyone were the originals but that’s just my two cents.
From what I remember the lost boys did leave with Wendy and were taken in by her parents and grew up at least in the novel. In the movie they most likely didn’t leave till Wendy had first started helping kids. They only reason we only see tootles is because like they said in the beginning Wendy couldn’t bare to put him in a home due to his old age affecting his mind. The other boys most likely were well enough to live by themselves in old age which would explain why they aren’t in the darling house
@@nateebanks I'm thinking most of the Lost Boys here did know him as a kid. I also think that the original Lost Boys may have still been around when Rufio and the other new ones were brought in by Peter which is why Thudbutt said he remembered Tootles. The Twins seemed to be the only ones that stayed after all those years. Curly, Slightly, Nibs, and Tootles probably got tired of being children and decided to move on and grow up at some point.
I think rufio was one of the original lost boys also the way he steps forward for a second he knows it's him but doesn't want to accept that Peter Pan grew up which is why I believed he was so hard on Peter also could of been his best friend who he left in charge when pan left that's just my opinion though.
When I was a kid and first saw this part, I almost cried and stood strong for some reason. Dad was like who almost cried in this scene lol, but yrs later 40yrs old and knowing Robin passed away. This scene breaks my heart
This movie touched me so much as a child--made me want to be a writer. I'm a poet these days. I just love the sensitivity in the movie and the music was gorgeous my god the music!!!
No one is talking about it so I will. The scene was amazing with how peter reunited with his old friends. But that's not what I'm saying. What I'm saying is, the scene when he was getting checked gave me ASMR vibes and it was so satisfying.
God it would've been even more impactful and bittersweet had Pockets (the smallest one that was checking Peter) been blind. Then the only way anybody would've really known for sure that was Peter was if Pockets could recognize him by just feeling his facial features.
Yes the way he steps forward he knows his Peter Pan but doesn't want to accept that he grew up also could of been beat friends I like to think all the boys that surrounds Peter are the original lost boys including rufio.
You mean Pockets. I loved his innocent yet brave spirit. But leader..maybe not quite lol. Not physically mature. Maybe if he grew to Rufio's size he could give him a run for the spot. But for the youngest lost boy, he's loyal, sympathetic, and does his part and that's what he's valued for.
This scene is one of the most important lessons of our lives... "The only way your Inner Child is Suppressed is when you Outer Adult gives it a Time Out."
He did I think the lost boys that surrounds Peter and rufio are the original lost boys and I think rufio was his best friend that's why he's so wild with Peter he promised he'd never grow up and he did 🥺🥺
I always thought it'd be funny if instead of imagining food they do it with weed. All the kids bust out there invisible pipes and sneak a tokes. Lol the little black kid lights and invisible joint and instead of the fat kid taking a huge invisible bite he grabs a huge invisible bong. Eventually peter learns and grabs a small tray with some "white powder" he imagined up and the kids say, "you're doing it peter!"
"Truly I tell you, unless you become like children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven." - Matthew 18:3 This scene taught me what Jesus meant when he said those words. We must never lose our inner child, our inner capacity to wonder, imagine, and dream of the loftiest possibilities for human kind, including a world where every human being is valued. Like Buttons does for Peter, we are meant to peel back all the frowns, scowls, and furrowed eyebrows in every face we meet, in order to see that real image of God in others, our inner child.
He probably grew up never even knowing Peter existed, Peter said so himself his parents forgot about him so they probably never told him about his brother
This movie had sooo much potential to be a classic. It needed to be trimmed and more focused though. It's too bloated and some scenes are unnecessary, like the subplot about Tinkerbell having feelings for Peter.
Tinkerbell has had feelings for Peter her whole life since she met him. She just never took the opportunity to profess them to him. Here she took a chance and still lost him anyway

This movie is a prime example of how a brilliant score can take the emotion of a scene and fire it into your chest like a canon. Superb!
Yes 100%. Spielberg/Williams has been a perfect combo for 20+ years. ‘You are the pan’ in this film was also perfect.
Top 10 soundtracks of all time... and honestly like 3 or 4 others belong to James as well 😮💨
2:38 "But Peter, you've grown up!? You promised never to grow old.". God damn it, that line gets me every single time.
I say that to myself every birthday.
Every. Single. Time.

I agreed
I miss you Robin Williams RIP 1951 ‐ 2014 you were a wonderful actor.
I loved Robin Williams, growing up as a kid! I wish he wasn't Dead! I always thought he was a very good actor in movies, like he was great though!
My favorite scene. I was their age when this came out. Now I watch it through adult eyes. It’s like they’re welcoming me back.

THIS is why Spielberg is one of the greatest children's directors ever. (And I know he tried to shy away from that but I mean JUST LOOK).

Spielberg is very hard on himself. I agree with you that this film is fantastic. I was 12 when I saw it in theaters.

@@joshrepik Wish I could go back to the 90's
I’ve just commented that. It’s crazy he regrets this film.
He regrets it because it's objectively a very schmaltzy film. But to those of us that grew up enjoying it, that doesn't really matter.
Yeah this was also one of my favorite scenes. The amazing thing about this scene is how the lost boys cant seem to recognize Peter, until he is actually forced to smile. I loon for that feeling everyday . Or at least try to implement that into my music
I think what makes this scene and the movie Hook so special is that many of us were the same age as Pockets when we first saw this movie.
The music in this scene as he examines Peter has always given me goosebumps the tingle up the back of my head.
Rufio: " I got Pan's sword! Im the pan now! Think this guys gonna take it from me!?"
Nope YOUR gonna give it to him.
0:06 fun fact. They filmed this scene backwards, so Rufio's actor had to not only perform it backwards, but say his lines backwards too. 😮
Uh…why
@@Eggplantman21 why? So...you wanted Rufio's actor to swing the sword that close to Robin's face....for real? 😒

We don't get live action films like this anymore.
Miss you and your beautiful smile, Robin Williams.❤
This will always be the best Peter Pan movie hands down. That live action remake trash coming out won’t be anywhere near as good as this.

FYI, this movie is just a sequel to the original tale, which by the way, has had TONS, adaptations throughout the years
This hits so much harder now as a 40 year old dad then when I saw it as a 7 year old. Such a beautiful scene.
This scene is so touching from both pockets and pan
