I'm watching this after learning about Maggie Smith's death. In this scene, the two characters (Robin and Maggie) meet and she says the line 'Its been 10 years between visits' This year marked the ten year anniversary of Robin Williams passing away - totally broke me
Absolutely right there with you. I know she was fantastic as Minerva McGonagall in Harry Potter, but I saw Hook before that and she will always be Granny Wendy.
@@phaiz55 I think they probably aged her up for this scene (and the ones after it.) In the earlier one, where Moira is a child, she seems younger (albeit not _young_ young.) Sister Act came out the year after this movie, and I feel like her character in that also seemed quite a bit younger than this great-grandma.
The way Peter looks at Wendy . . . @2:12 just look at that again, the way Robin played it, you can feel the weight of the history between them without him being aware, it's crushing
Hi Silver. You can see this same connection of communicating and history of telling in Maggies eyes. This is so fascinating. WHAT A GORGEOUS JOB! I can´t believe how great this is played. As a kid I didn´t realize. Were they aware back then? I was a little kid and I was magically turned into a wonderland watching story´s wie Robin Williams. Story´s with Robin, they are so classic. Well I must say, I miss him. Story´s with Maggie, they always have this little lovely picaro. I am stunned with this great talent of Maggie. You know actresses and actors have a really hard job. I feel blessed to know this scene and the story. I am also blessed to know that I know Maggie before I learned about her as Minverva. Good to see, that movie making is like a little family, where the great actresses and actors work together like a big family. This is gorgeous to see. Well done.
I kept rewinding this part, I’ve seen this film hundreds of times since I was 4 years old when I had the VHS in the 90s. And now that our beloved Robin has passed I couldn’t help but shed some bittersweet tears!! Such a subtle but great acting in this nostalgic scene!
It’s the Peter Pan in him - he promised to visit every year when he married Moira and moved to America, instead it was every ten years and Wendy was getting older. ❤
You can see how he stops everything when he hears her voice, the love in his eyes, you can feel all the affection and longing he felt. Robin was such a wonderful actor.
It wendy knowing Peter became the thing he was trying to stop and the point of him coming to terms with the past and who he was is meant to show him becoming the hero and the leader the lost boys needed and him in his last battle with hook is him knowing it was going to be over and had to pass the role to someone else to carry the spirit as sometimes things can't last forever

My mom always worried about taking me saltwater fishing 'Because the sea takes those she loves'. She said I wouldn't go to The Celtic Isles until I grew up "Because The Tuatha De Danann would want you, and I'd have a hard time getting you back."
She actually had face aving make-up in this movie to make her look like a 90 year old. Check out interviews with Maggie Smith around that time. She looks a lot younger.
The way she looks at him at 2:55 is heartbreaking 💔 So much love in her eyes. And the way he look at her at the top of the stairs, the sense of remembering and love as well. He just doesn’t understand it.
Man it’s a shame this was not appreciated when it was released. This scene was so well done. There’s so many layers out into it. You can just tell that Peter was extremely uncomfortable being there, though he probably couldn’t quite understand why the deep down he knew the history.
You have to remember and I speak as someone who saw this in theaters when it came out. This film faced HEAVY competition at the time. What would later be revealed in the years after was just how much of a nightmare production was as the film was HEAVILY reshot. The film had good word of mouth but it wasn’t jumping for joy by any means.
Feels like a reverse of the young boy scene where his parents have a new kid which makes he feel uncomfortable and unwanted. Here he’s wanted but the house makes him uncomfortable since a lot of the people are gone aside from Wendy, Tootles, and Liza. Plus it seems like there’s always unfinished business. Plus he’s very forgetful which is a callback to the original when he went to fetch Wendy for spring cleaning he practically forgot their first adventure
