'Hook' was so ahead of its time. Respecting the source material and taking it seriously, while putting a genuine twist on it that it adds to the lore...like, it was never appreciated in its time. Films back then rarely worried themselves with source material. In fact, creators were often encouraged to completely ignore it when possible. As long as it bore some vague resemblance to what its referencing, that was often enough for studios and audiences alike. The fact that Hook dared to be different really helped it stand out, which is probably why it's such a cult classic now.

I will never get over how good this sequel is---it had no reason to go this hard, but it did, and I am utterly amazed that no one has tried to recreate what they did since.

It was a movie with a heartfelt message for adults, marketed to kids. No wonder it didn't do well at the box office. You had to be a grownup to appreciate what Spielberg did in this wonderful movie.

    • @apriloftheangels
      @apriloftheangels ปีที่แล้ว +2

Terry Brooks wrote this 'source material' in a book and the movie was an adaption of it. The movie was great but the book was amazing!

It was not "ahead of its time," it was made precisely when it was meant to be. It WAS appreciated very much when it came out, thanks.

I never understood this scene and the dialogue as a kid, but watching it as I am older it breaks my heart with how Peter and Wendy grew apart. She moved on and he stayed in Neverland for so long. And Maggie Smith does great job capturing that lost love she wished she could have had with him.

also watching the 2003 version made it more heartbreaking to see when i rewatched Hook again. same here i didn't understood the dialogue too on it as a kid since i was only 7 years old but still was so entertained of it. Also more shocking when i rewatched it in high school i never knew the director was Steven Spielberg that did this movie after repeatedly watching it like crazy lol.

I feel like watching the 2003 version, maybe Return to Neverland by Disney and Hook as a sort of fan-viewed trilogy was good because of how you see Peter and Wendy's relationship change as time goes by. I actually shed a tear when in Return Peter reunited and lamented a little at seeing Wendy.

Peter reacts like Wendy is crazy. And yet, at the same time, he remembers. There is such an unsettling quality to this film which is hard to put into words. It's like Spielberg managed to capture the duality between innocent youth and cold cynical adulthood, between light and darkness, on celluloid. Powerful film which deserves more credit than it received

Imagine being an adult, an Attorney at Law, a serious and rational man with a wife and children...being told by your beloved Wendy (with whom you developed a very different relationship) that you *are* Peter Pan. Not in some metaphorical 'magic of childhood' sense, but that you are the *literal* Peter Pan. Not only does he exist outside of fiction, but that YOU ARE HIM. The one you heard stories of as a child(well in a sense), the one starring in the Disney classic. I'd have thought she lost her marbles along with Toodles.

9/27/2024 For many people, Maggie Smith may be their Professor McGonagall, but she will always be my Granny Wendy. She let Toodles stay with her and helped many lost children find loving homes. It''s because of her that Peter and Mora met. Because of Granny Wendy, Peter was able to find true happiness as he realized over time, that what he always wanted is to be a daddy. I will never forget Maggie Smith. She's such a brilliant and intelligent woman. She's hilarious and witty. Everyone who knows her name loves her. Good night, Maggie Smith. And something equally grim in her voice when she says "Yes boy. Yes" Very reminiscent of the way Yoda sounds when he says "You will be. You. Will. Be." to Luke after Luke says he's not afraid in Empire Strikes Back

Many of you here tonight were once lost children; but, Granny Wendy found parents and homes for each of you and saved you. That's her miracle. RIP Maggie, our Granny Wendy. 😢

When your wife's great grandmother has a thing for you and subtly hits on you.
"Boy, we had a past. You and me"
    "Grandma ...
    "Dammit."

To be fair, they were children together... Peter kind of had a thing for her too; but, being Peter Pan, he wasn't quite ready to embrace it yet.

Yeah except when he left neverland she was already a grandmother so she raised Peter like a grandson when he knew Wendy as a child like him.

this movie is one of the most Magical Movies ever made!, Robin Williams is the goat and one of the most underratedly well played Villian, when Peter starts to remember gives me chills he is a devil hook but Pan found himself back to his old days and wow the chills u get when he flys to neverland wow the Image of Hook at the start on the photo sends chills down peters Spine, and when the kids get hurt and taken Wendy knows and noodles barking HOOK is freakish no movie will ever quite beat this ! Robbin Williams may your beautiful Soul rest in peace u left a legacy that will never be replaced ❤ PAN X HOOK Greatest War of all time ❤

Peter grew up and got too busy with work stuff. He probably suppressed the memory of being Pan. It happens.

@@soulserenade.kcn1992in the book Peter was also forgetful in general, Wendy tells him is Tink still alive and he says who like he has no idea who she is.
