Music is 10. Even if you forget the film you remember the music. The fight was long, 10, and the visuals were about perfect. @@-pink-regina- Because they're looking at it from an adults perspective. Yes, as an adult you can critique the movie to death. But as a kid? We didn't care.
3:21 I honestly think that this was partially the adult side of Peter coming through. This wasn't Peter Pan bantering with Captain Hook, but a vengeful father who wants justice.
I always considered this movie is to the ending to a Peter Pan story. He was taken to Neverland as a baby, raised by Tinkerbell and others. Took in lost boys who had been either orphaned or ran away from home. Peter met Wendy and her brothers, had adventures with them, developing a bond with Wendy. Years later would have adventures with Wendy's daughter Jane. Only upon returning one last time would see Wendy's granddaughter and Jane's daughter Moira. Peter finally felt romantic love and decided to grow up and stay behind. Years later Peter had to have one final showdown with Hook, and lived the rest of his days.
Well this movie is loosely based on the epilogue that JM Barrie wrote on Peter Pan called “When Wendy Grew Up- An Afterthought” so in a way it is the ending to Peter Pan from the books, with a change to the actual ending. In the book Peter Pan never married Jane, he just kept going through the cycle with each generation of Wendy and Jane’s family in a never ending cycle. Kinda like Neverland itself
These were two amazing actors in this movie. The amount of time put into the sword training to do this long fight is incredible and shows the discipline and respect they have for their craft.
"I think not! I think James Hook's afraid of time ticking away." Ironically, that was what Peter feared as a child, the slow march of time and the inevitably of death. He and Hook are not so different, yet Hook has been denied what Peter gave up, eternal youth.
Funny thing is, I was 7 years old when I watch this movie. And I like it so much that told my mother I wanted to dress like that in carnival. My mother smiled, saying Peter Pan is easy to make, no problem. But then I replied "no, mom, I wanna be captain Hook!". There you have my poor, blessed mother spending 3 weeks doing a perfect recreation of a XVIII century pirate for me to wear in school's carnival.
This was the first Robin Williams movie I ever saw in theaters. He was Peter Pan for me. The sword fight was awesome. I don't care what the critics said. Hook was gold.
The sword fighting is repetitive - that mirrors the relationship between hook and pan before. They’re equally matched, perhaps one gaining every so often. It’s not until Peter can understand what responsibility and adulthood hold for him that he can actually defeat Hook.
Only Robin Williams can portray a grown up Peter Pan any other actor would just seem weird and Creepy to me I think it's because in a way Robin Williams was a big kid at heart
High level sword fighting, way above Rufio's league, even the legendary Peter Pan struggled against Hook, and was pinned down by the Hook, only Tinker bell and his belief saved him, even without the crock though, his flying ability would have got him out of there!
Ehh only reason Peter got pinned is because he is an older pan. Slower and bigger. Pan in his youth was always to much for hook. An adult pan is a bigger target so hook was able to trip him. Plus hook started playing mind games like a coward to turn him back to banning.
Yeah people always say Rufio was holding his own against Hook but you can tell from Rufio's facial expressions during the fight he was struggling to keep up.
I've been going through my old films and what I like is a long fight with moments of high and low. Five minutes seems to be about right, or longer if it's a battle and you have good writers and music. If the fight is under two minutes the movie usually sucks.
I love it when peter tells hook to take his ship and go and never want to see your in Neverland again. As if peter coming back ro Neverland once he drops his kids off home
The fights are repetitive and balanced and unending, as they have ALWAYS been, until Peter begins to face his fear of death, of growing up, of his responsibility. To begin with even Peter forgets that he has grown up. Key part is that he becomes truly grown up when he embraces his childhood and his adulthood equally. Captain Hook never really lies in Hook - Jack has never met this person before. Their parents DO tell them stories to send them to sleep. Peter won’t win this fight by taking his children and leaving either, some demons require confrontation.
Captain James Hook really uses that English Dish Hilt Smallsword well. Its a triangular blade that cannot cut. It can only thrust. I think we are to think it is silver. Not a bad representation of a Smallsword
Dudtin Hoffman remains the best live action Hook in my rankings. Jason Isaacs did well, and Jude Law carried the latest movie. But Hoffman just had something the other two didn’t.
I've never understood the crocodile in this. It was mentioned in the beginning that hook finally killed the croc and stuffed it, basically taxidermy. So since that was the case, how in the hell did it just suddenly come back to life and then devour hook? Does anyone know?
I never understood it to. It never explained it really. I always thought that the crocodile was always playing dead and fooling Hook to believe he was dead and waiting for the right moment to get him and this was it. It waited before after Peter took Hooks hand and feed it to the crocodile and waited until he had his moment to strike at him. I know that probably a dumb reason but it the only thing I can think of. I wish the people who made this film explain it later after the film was out.
@@RTaylor1505 That's why when disposing of crocodiles and carpenters both, dismember the carcass. Why taxidermy it, when you can eat it? Better to eat than be eaten. Better to betray than be betrayed. The meat is usually served as a steak or in a stir-fry. The texture of crocodile meat is similar to that of chicken or fish. The only possible issue is that people who have fish allergies also react the same to crocodile meat, but I'd like to think that a pirate wouldn't have that issue.
Well Hook is a pirate and they typically know how to swordfight even by learning as they go. Peter even though playing to some degree always fought against Hook so he'd learn that way.

There are two theories. One, the fairy touched the hook before it touched the crocodile. Two, Neverland works on believing, Hook was scared of the crocodile and always scared of it coming after him even after it was dead so he must have “believed” it back to life.

7-8 depending on how generous I'm feeling. Great interpretation, but the story was a tad wonky.

0:28 The shadow of the fight between Hook and Peter, with this music, immediately brings the Disney film to mind. 😥
I agree. It scared me as a kid because it wasn’t the Disney film.
I love how whenever Hook hears a ticking clock he suffers from PTSD caused by the Croc that was trying to eat him.

Both Dustin Hoffman and Robin Williams did a good job playing their respective characters in this movie
