I appreciate the use of screw drivers instead of using a cordless drill/impact for everything. The attention to detail was great to see and, the fact that the video was just showing the labor of love that went into the restoration without any voice overs was great too! Thank you for sharing this with us!
PeCHoO you need way oil for the slides not grease as it picks up metal shavings and wears out the way slides get an oil can with a small applicator tip so you press in the small ball bearing and apply the way oil 👍🏻
Nicely done, it looks nice again. But disassembling, cleaning, painting, assembling, is not a restoration. There are dozens of these types of "restoration" videos on TH-cam, but there is no real restoration involved. How about the play, the sag of the bed, the alignment from various parts, the alignment, the precision and so on... As far as I can tell, this is now a sexy looking lathe, which can still deliver poor results..
Restoring is, back to original with little changes and repairs of broken parts or making and getting new parts specialy the worn out ones.. If its precion is still not like the new, then it is just cleaning and re painting. Restoring a lathe is not that easy.
Building back to original specs is a remanufacture. Stripping it down, cleaning, repairing or replacing anything that needs it, then reassembling, adjusting for correct operation, painting and detailing is a restoration.
Meticulously done! I’ve seen a lot of “restores” done but regardless of everything on yours being “in spec” as for tolerances, this one is the cleanest with the most care given to appearance I’ve ever seen. So tired of seeing machines stripped down then painted and reassembled with greasy hands plus the addition of scratches and dings everywhere. Nice job overall, very appealing to the eye! Now run through it with a micrometer and tighten everything up to as new as possible and you’ll have a fine machine for life! (That is IF you’re making rocket ship or medical parts, but don’t worry about it if not😬) 👍🏼👍🏼 from this guy, thanks for taking us along✌🏼
Looks great! You should be using oil instead of grease on the slides. Also, the contact surfaces for the carriage, cross slide, and compound should have been stoned instead of sanded or wire brushed. Or better yet, precision scraping to true the mating surfaces to each other.
Love your work! You are a master craftsman. I don't know how you remember where everything goes back. Your workshop is amazing. Thank you for sharing. Cheers Ray Mann Melbourne AUST.
Nothing wrong with it to start with (pretty much), but now better than new. Super pride in your craftsmanship. No one could appreciate the work unless they knew. And you did it much like I would have done. On the change plate, I thought, he should laser that, and the next scene 🙂 Absolutely brilliant.
Never seen this model. The design appears to borrow a bit from the Myford 7, but with a fair amount of differences, too. Doesn't appear to have a powered cross slide, which is a bummer, but the t-slotted saddle is something that all small lathes should have, but too few do. I can see a lot of very good work here.
Amazing at the level of detail you restorers have in being able to disassemble tools like that and get them back together. I'd be sh!t where's this part or ooops where did this one go. My hats off to your sheer ability!
MM77 Approved 👍🏼👍🏼………………………………………………………………………WOW, excellent job! It may not have “ needed “ it, but now you know what you have and that’s a “ new “ lathe. AND it matches your other machines! LOL
This was s nice video about how to clean and re-paint your lathe. I am of the opinion that you likely could have saved around 50 hours if you had used paint stripper instead of that darn grinder/sander! That was a lot of wasted labor. Also, cleaning the ways with a grinder/sander could cause damage and errors on the ways. A flat iron or piece of granite with 1000 grit paper and oil would have been a better choice. Even so, it appears that it is working so, all's well that ends well. Thank you for sharing.
Wow, you performed a very exceptional masterpiece of beautiful work on this Lathe Restoration job. I admired the fact that you restored every single small detail on this lathe and didn't miss or overlook anything. It was very therapeutic watching you as a master restoration expert technician perform this job and you should be very proud of yourself and skills because this job you did was not an easy task to do, "SUBSCRIBED"!!!!
Excelente trabajo.
If you need a new variable speed pulley, Speed Selector makes pulleys that replace the Reeves, Hi-Lo, TB Woods and Lovejoy pulleys that went out of business or got bought. Most are in stock or Speed Selector will custom make if needed. They have an actual engineering department; very helpful.
You have made assembly mistake approx 34:25 min, both cross slide dial indicators you assembled backwards. Otherwise a Beautiful restoration. Well done
Use oil at the lubrication points and no grease!! Bedway oil for example. Otherwise very good work! I wish you a lot of fun and lots of chips with your new old machine.

I don't see any restoration, but rather a thorough cleaning of the lathe. The first step of restoration. Nice cleaning job.
I appreciate the use of screw drivers instead of using a cordless drill/impact for everything. Nice addition to your shop. Nothing teaches you more about a machine than tearing it down and putting it back together.
PeCHoO you need way oil for the slides not grease as it picks up metal shavings and wears out the way slides get an oil can with a small applicator tip so you press in the small ball bearing and apply the way oil 👍🏻
You can still use way oil and add it by way of the zerk fitting.

What a lovely restoration. As a retired turner i would be more than happy to potter about on a great little lathe like this one!
Super proud of your workmanship. No one can appreciate work unless they know. And you need lubricant for the sliders. Thanks! 🎉🎉

It's a restoration but poorly done
I don't think the bed was sagging but that tool compound is damaged beyond repair

I agree, mostly. But the new colour fits not well. Why on earth babyblue?
Excellent job on the restoration process. Looks better than new
You are truly an artist!
Nice refurbishing project. I like how you refinished basically everything and now can use it for a lot of other great projects too... Thumbs Up!
Svaka čast. Kao nov! 👏
Svaka cast majstore!

All you have to do now is to strip it down clean all the grease off, reassemble and use oil to lubricate. 👍🏴
Hi Very nice video and a restoration
Piękna robota.
Svaka cast brate 🦾
ovo ti na kraju dobro Metalac Cakovec ha ha inace dobra restauracija

Great Job! It looks so much better and is going to be useful for your projects for years to come. Good color selection too.👍

Dobro si ga odradio, lep dodatak radionici. A sad neku malu glodalicu da središ, znaš koliko će da ti otvori mogućnosti u novim projektima!
Seriously.....a perfect restoration! Beautiful job!
Brilliant restoration!!!
I have a very similar Maximat machine that was made in Austria. I like yours very much. It will serve you well. Greetings from Wisconsin.
Welldone. Great work!!!
This video is not about restoring a lathe. Of painting, cleaning, yes, but not of restoration
Top-Super gemacht.
here's how to turn a lather into a garden sculpture, beautiful color

Super Arbeit 💪🏼💐👍🎖️
Its repainting not restoration....
There should be ZERO grease in or on that Lathe, everything gets oil, some thin, some thick, BUT NO GREASE -
Bearings are fine with grease(except if it's a closed oil system, then yes).
He'll figure that out when the chips start tearing things up.
A great restoration . Where the ways in good condition? (no wear etc.) These flat one's can be very easy grind.
Superbe !!! (superb in English)
Very nice!
Use oil at the lubrication points and no grease!!
Bedway oil for example.
Otherwise very good work!
I wish you a lot of fun and lots of chips with your new old machine.
Hello from Texas
Great job, although I noticed that you installed the scale rings from the compound the wrong way.
