It takes great patience to keep yourself tempered in the heat of the moment, without something or someone to direct your anger at you'll just blindly harm someone verbally at best and physically at worst. I always to hold close the anger I have against crime and abuse when I need to vent my feelings otherwise someone close to could get caught in the crossfire. It's alright to feel angry at times, just make sure you know what you're mad about. No one wants blind rage.

Its "The Father" try to dealt with his own guilt. For the demise of his whole company to the disfigurment and permanant injury his son "Johannes" suffer due to the encouragement to join "The Great War" (Possibly by the father who's an officier). All the bosses str representation of his own suffering inflicted on the experience from the war.
The ending, I think is that he finally make peace with everything and accept the constant state of his still "alive" family. His own father, His wife and his own son.

@@FragileBitchyou're actually wrong about the characters. You're not playing the father. You're playing as the younger son Paul. He has PTSD and survivors guilt because he was in charged of the whole squad that got kill except for his brother Johannes. You were also a prisoner of war and was captured by the French. The only reason u went to the war was to live up to your prideful nationalist father and be a man. That's why all the soldiers were making fun of him for being small(Paul was only 19)

    • @samarmstrong6569

The experiments aren’t real, and they aren’t portrayed as a way to vilify some Germans. Paul refers to the doctor as some German fictional doctor who reanimates dead people. So when Paul is in the memory of the hospital, the entire thing is based on Paul’s mockery of the trench’s German Doctor. In other words, Paul created the field hospital section in his mind because he mocked his trench’s German doctor.
