Awesome! 🤘🏻 Great I could convince someone 😅 I literally just posted my latest vid about them 😀 thanks for the shout out 🙏🏻 and yep, those first splashes on a brand new pair of running shoes do hurt!
Woah strange timing!! I will link to your video in this description after I have checked it out. Thanks again for letting me know about them my man. So glad that your now getting sent shoes to review :)
I've had these for about two months and love them. I'm glad Altra has offered a road shoe in the "original foot shape". I love the Lone Peak and Olympus trail, fit is great for me. Via is a nice cushion shoe on the firm side, not super squishy/mushy. A great road option for Altra.
Thanks for stopping by Stan. Yeah I must say I was surprised that there wasn't more cushioning myself but they should do me well. I, like you opt for the original shape Altras - Lone Peaks, Olympus trail and the Escalante's although I only wear them causally!
This is good to hear. I love my Lone Peaks, but I'm looking to add another pair to the rotation as I train for an ultra-endurance challenge later this year. Cheers.
@@mid-lifechallenge Very different to the lone peaks. I also have a pair to walk in but these perhaps a little too stiff to walk in maybe? hmmmm maybe stiff isnt the right word... still like them but hard to what I REALLY think about that stack!
Nice “dark video”😆 is the first time for me, nice moon 😆, I have bought Via Olympus 2 weeks ago and the feel is the same to you( excuse for my English) the first 5/6km I thought I had wood shoes😂 but after more Km the shoes softened each other and now are perfect , my feet not protested and long run are very pleasure, I have bought this shoes not for velocity but for feet protection and long run pleasure and they are perfect Ps. I also run in the dark before work. Greetings from Italy
Ciao Stefano! Thank you for watching (and listening) to this video! The weather here in england is very cold right now and so to get rid of that wood shoes feel, I may put my Via Olympus under a radiator before I take them outside. The rubber seems to take awhile to warm up in this cold weather!
Phil, your review of the Altra Via Olympus shoes had me on the edge of my seat, and not just because I was waiting to see how the shoes performed. Your wit and humor had me laughing out loud and I couldn't help but feel like I was on the run with you, in the dark, hehe. Thanks for making shoe reviews entertaining and not just informative. I can't wait to see what other comedic gems you come up with in your next video.
Thanks Mihai. I really didn’t know if the audio only review would work. I did take ALOT of content out but yeah I think I got away with it. I have plans for a similar review on another pair I have so look out for that. Thanks for watching and keep those dji drone running vids coming. They are great!
Something more intimate about sound isn't there. Wasn't sure about it but you know, my new mindset about creating content is to just go for it and put it out if it feels right. Thanks for watching mate! :)
I bought a pair a few weeks ago. I use Altra Solstice, Altra Lone Peaks, Vibram Runs and a cushioned New Balance which I bought these to replace, if I felt I wanted a less impactful Run on Tarmac. So far I am not 100% with them as they rub on my forefoot quite badly. To the point I had to stop and walk, to allow time for the pain in my feet to settle. Its possible its just a settling in period, but currently I would not use my pair on a Long Run. I like Altras and am hoping the shoes will settle. But glad your pair marries your feet well.
Ah man. Shame to hear your not getting on with them. Do you use a heel lock? Could your foot be moving around a little when you land to cause it to move and give you that pain perhaps? Just a thought anyway. Really appreciate you taking a look :)
@@trailrunningphil Thanks Phil. Its one foot mainly that I have had issues with in the past the cushioning under my fore foot in it I find hard so does my foot. Hence it seems my foot is rubbing slightly up and down in it, hence the eventual pain. However not saying its the shoe per se, but my foot. Will use them again over the next few days to see if both the shoe and my foot have grown accustomed to each other yet:) Enjoyed the vid also your 100k canal run its how I came across your channel last week. Take care:)
Nice review. I'm training for a Double Everesting and the Altra Lone Peaks are in my rotation. I'm interested in some other Altras in the lineup. I'll give these a try next time I'm shopping for a new pair. Cheers!
@Trail Running Phil Yes, I'm using trekking poles for sure. I think hiking at steep incline calls for their use. I bring them on a lot of my outdoor run/hikes and feel pretty comfortable with them at this point. Got any thoughts?
Thanks for the video. I’m in the process of transitioning to ‘balanced’ (zero drop). I’ve just bought some of these and was worried as many are saying they are stiff / brick like etc. Your review has given me some hope. Any chance you could do another review when you’ve worn them in a bit and feedback about whether you think they’ve softened up? Also would appreciate any feedback about traction and grip given the weather we get here in the uk as I’m super anxious about running in slippery conditions.
Hi Amanda thanks for the comment 😊 I find that most running shoes in the winter feel quite stiff, especially if you leave them in a colder area near a front or back door. In the last few winters, I have started leaving them under a radiator for at least a few hours before I go for a run in them. I have ran in super soft cushioned shoes like the brooks ghosts and the hoka challengers and they certainly don’t feel like that. I will do a follow up video though yes 👍

Nice to "see" you again mate 😂👍🏻 This is the first running shoe review in the dark I've ever seen. Hopefully the first of many!

Might take the plunge with these …. Haven’t bought a road shoe for years - my Torin 4.5 and escalante 1.5 have had it! Nice review
Thanks for taking a look :)

Are you going to be using poles in your attempt?

@@mid-lifechallenge ok thats very wise. I would like a pair but where I live is flat as a pancake!!
John likes Altra due to the zero percent. He has the Escalante but doesn't like a lot of stack height on some of the other shoes.
Hey Dawn 😊 I also have the escalantes and love wearing them casually. Thanks watching
