I own 2 Macro lenses from Laowa. Love them greatly. Sony 90mm f2.8 macro, Laowa 65mm 2x macro f2.8, and Laowa 25mm 2.5-5x f2.8, and lastly a Irix 150mm f/2.8 Macro.
Big macro fan here!
Is there an autofocus lens that gives magnification 2:1?
Great video, as usual! Please, did you try some portraits with this Laowa 90mm?
I've been using this lens for a year. Shooting macro with it has been fun. It is sharp, as you say. Being manual focus hasn't been a problem. No electronics is a negative, however.
i just got for my fx-30 Meike 60mm F2.8 Magnification Macro Manual Focus APS-C Lens and its real good, but ill get the lens you just showed for my full frame. Thanks it is in my cart. 😀😀
I have done Macro Photography since 1980 and I use Macro Lenses handhold 99.99% of the time. The Laowa is the best macro lens from Laowa, but I do not like the Lens design and I do not need 2x, I can always attach extensions rings if needed. I have some og the very best Macro Lenses, fx Tamron SP 90mm 2.5 Adaptall-2 (old analog Lens), Leica Macro Elmarit R 60mm 2.8, Hasselblad Macro Planar 120mm 4.0 and the two Lenses that I use most now is the Voigtländer Macro APO-Lanthar 65mm 2.0 Aspherical and the Voigtländer Macro APO-Lanthar 110mm 2.5, I would not recommend the Laowa, rather an old analog Macro Lens. The two Voigtländer Macro Lenses that I have, I can very highly recommend, it does not get any better !
You forgot to tell why you would not recommend the Laowa...
The 65mm laowa 2x macro for apsc is my favorite lens
thanks for info, what you think? cause i could get either, 90mm better?
@tek_soup I think on the apsc body you will end up with pretty equal results. If moving to full frame is ever in your future you may want the 90, but I personally don't have any plans to. Otherwise, I think the 65 is a bit smaller and lighter (not sure by how much but it barely fits in my small carry bag while on the body)
i have a full frame, but wanted dual use, and since his channel was mainly apsc, i figured he would of tested? well thank you for the help. 😀😀@@jared3622
@@tek_soup With 90mm u can get better working distance, easier to get closer to skittish bugs than on 65mm, but laowa 65mm is small and super light, that is also important when u need to handheld it for longer time and do dozens of shots for image stacking.
im not planning on bugs, just stuf, tech stuff. thank you.@@Patrick-vi9xr
The thing I liked about the Sony 90, is that it performs great on my 590nm IR A6100, with great sharpness and not hotspots.
did you try on your apsc? cause i might return my meike since i just bought.
2x is neat. I can't help to compare this to the Sigma 90mm Sigma Macro which gives you AF.
Is there an autofocus lens that gives magnification 2:1?
Hey arthur, will you be reviewing DJI Pocket 3?
Is is APO like the Sigma? I know the 105 sigma isn't officially, but looking at the images it is very close to it
Do you feel it's better than the Sony FE 90mm F/2.8 oss?
I still feel thats the best in the market but i honor your opinion.
And awaome video as always
Yes, laowa is better overall, especially much better aberration control, CA is more visible in macro photography and can destroy image, but sony got AF and OSS that is hard to pass.
Please make a review video on new neewer 35 mm f1.1 lens with a6000 there is not a single review video available in youtube regarding this lens
Arthur I'm waiting for a test of the new Sirui AF F1.2 :)
This or a used Sony FE 90mm for around a 100 usd more?
where is your a7c ii?
I don’t know that I want one anymore.
Wenn die Blende wenigstens an die Kamera übertragen würde, wäre es okay. Aber so finde ich es etwas teuer. Ich hab ein altes Sigma 105mm f2.8.
Technically you can get 3:1 if you mount the lens on an aps-c camer👍
Technically you won’t.. the ratio refers to reproduction on the sensor, it doesn’t include crop ratio.
Yes, you’ll get a bigger image on an apsc camera with similar megapixel count; but that is not the same as 3:1 reproduction ratio..
Another example is: if a 1:1 macro lens is mounted on either a 24mp FF camera or 61mp FF camera, the result is still considered 1:1.
@@saifaldin_ i know what you mean. My point is with an aps-c you have a crop. If you mount a full frame FE macro lens, lets say 90 mm on the sony a6700, technically you are cropped and still have 26 mp. So, you are a bit closer. That 90 will become 135mm equivalent. Is it?🤔 Thats what I meant
@@danielbogos263 Yes, it will be 135mm equivalent FOV, but you won’t get physically closer, meaning to say the minimum focus distance is still the same. Essentially what you get is a cropped in version that is blown up to 24 or 26mp (compared to a FF sensor).
I get what you mean; we do get a bigger image, but that’s not the same as a higher reproduction ratio.
Sirui new af E lenses !! 🤡🤡
Second!
Would you like some grapefruit with your sugar?
First
I was expecting insect photos
Laowa really messed up. No auto focus, no electronic connection, no weather sealing. That's too many misses in 2023. Sony's 1 to 1 is good enough for what I do, and if I want to get more magnification, I change over from my FF camera to my aps-c camera. If this had all the features of the Sony, I'd be excited. It's like moving from a 2020 Honda Civic to a 1975 Honda Civic with roll down windows, plain cloth seats and a 4-speed stick shift and no A/C.
Well, if you have that opinion you're not a macro shooter... 95% of macro shot are taken on manual. Do your research. If you use a lens macro just to shoot a wedding ring you're not a macro photographer.
Agree with Nelson. The comment clearly explains you are not a macro shooter. AF is useless in Macro. And if it is raining, good luck finding the butterfly you wanted to shoot. I bet on double magnification any day. Btw what do you mean by using aps c😅
It doesn't sounds like you're a macro shooter and this lens is for macro shooters.
got it using your link for $449! Amazon. Wheeeee!
