When he looked into her eyes, she telepathically told him that she Chose him to be her Herald, and Heralds have a strict moral code. That was the "joke on him".
That and the abduction that preceded it he did ride back into Haven with two black eyes and about half his dignity left intact. After all she had technically stolen him instead of the other way around I imagine that might be a bit hard for a thief to swallow at first.
Tialakit I don't know Doctor Who didn't seem to have so much problem with it... after he had his little breakdown, you know what nevermind!
The biggest; "I'ma bout to end this man's whole career," moment.
@@dangrus123 The Doctor did, when he finally found out that the Tardis had a sentient consciousness. Their confrontation in the graveyard of Tardises about who actually stole whom was hilarious. Tardis won, by the way. "I'm not your Tardis, you're MY Doctor. I stole you."

luv this song. Skiff was the first book I read by Mercedes and I was hooked. Skiff is such a likeable character. gotta luv him.

Then had to ride back into town with two black eyes and one of the most embarrassing "How I met my Companion" stories ever. I just know the other trainees and Heralds never let him live it down I wouldn't have put it past a Bardic Trainee to have written this song to playfully tease Skif.
I believe that Lackey mentions Skiff's past as a pick pocket before she wrote take a thief in the Mage Winds series.
in that version of events he mentioned that his teacher was his mother not the ex merc who lead a gang of pick pockets.
I understand that Companion mare had her eye set on him.
have you thought that Skif could have a touch of Foresight, because he dreams of a girl, who is behind him while climbing a building? and since most of us read Arrows of the Queen, we find out its Talia.

Yep Arrows first, then Winds then Storms. Don't break off from them to the side stories, because if you do you will be confused latter on. Then after those I would read the Alberich books and then finally Skif's.
I read Alberich the skif's then arrows. Wasn't confused and actually preferred it because I knew about a lot of things that were referenced in arrows like Elsbeth's father.

At least his story of meeting his companion is one that will make people laugh and create plenty of jokes for them.

no, in this series the companions (horses) are very intelligent, the joke is that when he looked into the companions eyes, he realized that the horse had come to take HIM, that he would become a herald
The Companions aren't really horses. They are souls born into horse bodies.
they chose an equine form, it's easier to them, they could have been any animal.
Funnily enough, the thief accused the companion/horse of kidnapping.
Not untrue, but funny considering the attempted horse-thieving/ companion-kidnapping done earlier. Shame she never pointed it out.
The Companions are unicorns, without horns. I hope that fills in a few gaps of their magical and psychic powers.

its funny , a bit of the master theifs deeds were pin on skiff , you should dig and find out what other thinks that devil stole , there was that one place that stole an idem and some time of the lords ladys time , skiffs story was one of the first of the books i read. my sister telling my brother and i some of the part from books that she had read so she got me hooked.
