  • High Speed Trains are commonly seen all over the mainline network, but rarely do they venture onto heritage steam railways. Organised by the Branch Line Society along with Great Western Railway (formerly First Great Western) a HST special from London Paddington to Buckfastleigh on the South Devon Railway using their newly liveried GWR set. This was a charity special run in aid of raising funds for the First Devon and Exeter Prostate Cancer Fund.
The special service also ran on the mothballed Heathfield line (Newton Abbot-Heathfield) but I didn't film on that line as its too heavily overgrown with trees and vegetation blocking the view of the line.
The HST ran on the South Devon Railway twice there and back so it was a great opportunity to film the train at multiple locations. Because of the number of sharp curves and the influence of the River Dart, the train had to slow for speed slacks due to the long length of the train and the Mark III coaching stock coping with the tense adhesion.
    Locations filmed on:
Bishops Bridge loop (where the old and the modern GWR meet)
    Riverford Bridge
    West Staverton
    Dartington
The power cars are 43187 (facing Buckfastleigh) and 43188 (facing Totnes)
