Thank you for this...very helpful. It never occurred to me that the leaf scarring could be mite damage.

Just for sharing, I don't have many Hoya, I learn flat mites from youtube but I haven't buy a microscope.
When I saw some symotom like that on my Hoyas.
I try to use a piece of Sulphur Soap, then use a cutter to make it into power like.
Mix it with water in a spray bottle (if you mix it with very little water it will be quite sticky)
Spray it on the Hoya and rub on the plant with fingers and let it stay.
Or can just rub the soap on hand and rub it on plant 😆
I find new leaf grow again.
I will do it if I have time just for cleaning.

That’s a good piece of advice! I prefer to use the powder as it’s less steps and more concentrated solution, but that can be useful for those who cannot find pure sulfur powder or the sulfur fungicide.

Got a Hoya New Guinea Ghost a while ago, and it was packed with flatmites! I put it in a sulfur bath.. And not seen a s single flatmite since. Its now one of my favorite Hoyas. :)

Very informative video! I didn't know that you need a microscope to check flat mites. Good luck to your hoya😊

Hello from Canada, just found your page. Love Hoyas, going down the rabbit hole learning about plant pest. Thought I had thrips at one time and threw out a couple plants haven’t seen anything else. At that time I was going to be away from home and was unable to treat them weekly. 😢 I am now prepared to deal with any pest that want to challenge me. Some people wash off the old Sulphur weekly then put fresh on I think I would just leave it on and add on top of old….what is your thoughts? It has become an obsession now looking my plants constantly and it is taking out all the enjoyment. Just heading over to watch some more of your videos. All the best with those flat mites.

Hello! I’m sorry you had to throw away plants but this may happen in a plant journey. I have also thrown away plants in the past - not Hoyas tho! I hold these for dear life! 😂 You will indeed need to wash and re-apply, for 2 reasons: 1. More mites will be washed away with washing 2. If you don’t wash, more sulfur will be accumulated so it will be harder for the plant to photosynthesize and it may start going downhill. Good luck!
