I went with the honesty approach with my 4 kids. My youngest is 20 now and a few of mine are trying to start families, but there haven't been any unexpected surprises ❣️ And, my favorite part is, awkward moments or not, we can all talk about anything to one or another of us. If it is too much for them to tell me, they talk to each other openly. So I know they'll figure (almost) everything out that I did miss 😆

Great work. My son is three, about to turn four and he said a few weeks ago "daddy I want a beard like you so I can shave." (Exact words, he's very well spoken). It made me tear up a bit. I used to be rather emotionless and a borderline sociopath until I had kids. Now I'm so emotional over them and kids in general. I'll get them learning from this show when they're eight.

Girls: “why won’t the boys talk to us?”
Look, we go through a whole mental plan just to speak to you. First we have to come up w/ something to say, then we have to think if the sentence conveys the right message, we then choose the best tone to suit our intentions, after that we second guess ourselves and wonder how you’ll react, so we then reword our sentence about 13 times like it’s college thesis, then comes the moment of truth on wether or not we let the phrase exit our mouths. 80% of the time we don’t. Keep in mind, this is just the formula for how we say “what’s up?” Or tell a joke to you.

One thing is kind of messed up about growing up as a boy. You are marked for life. Unless you can shake the past, move somewhere new and have good luck. Getting suspended, detention, failing a class, word gets around. Teachers will reinforce your perceived social cast, I was shy so I became a bit of a class clown. I wasnt rude or disruptive, just did really good impressions and witty sarcastic comments. But teachers would subtly ruin your life. "That's not the topic I gave you"
but this is 4 weeks of work.
"Either fail or do it again?"
But hey you definately learn resilience strategies early as a male.

When it comes to the "emotionless male" thing, people tend to focus on the "don't cry" aspect of it (which I've literally never heard anyone seriously say, in my life), but the primary emotion that gets covered up is nervousness...not sadness. Hiding sadness is in there too, but it's not nearly as common.
Learning to hide a lack of confidence is something most guys have to learn at some point, because you're gonna have a really hard time finding someone to be with romantically if you can't ask them out without being a nervous mess. Women will reject you and not even be nice about it.
Can't look like a wuss in front of your friends, as a kid, so you better act tough even if you don't feel it.

In high school I avoided showers like the plague and actually talked to a school counselor about it, sort of. I just dropped in a conversation, but they were very understanding about it and it turns out at my school, it wasn't really a requirement since a lot of students also refused to use the showers too, so they didn't enforce it and felt no need too. However, my senior year, I couldn't avoid it. My wrestling team just had a practice during the Christmas break and we were actually going on a trip to statewide wrestling tournament. We were all sweaty and the team in general decided everyone needed a shower since the bus wasn't scheduled to arrive for another 30 minutes. I tried to avoid it but the team insisted and oddly enough it was fine. I used every excuse I could but there was a rebuttal for each one. But in the end I was forced into the shower.

It's more the rep and ripples through the school. If you don't show up the whole school will find out and you could lose all sort of respect and be targeted by others. You may get bullied because they know they you won't stand up for yourself and if you stay in the same school district it'll follow you everywhere and you'll have to deal with it. These schools have their own internal systems that are cruel. Yes you may be able to play it off by doing what you say but also maybe not.

As a Cross Country runner who had 4 days a week of morning practice, the locker rooms were interesting to say the least. We didn’t have time to go home to shower so everyone just did it at school. There were usually about 7-10 of us who would all go into this room with showers on the wall (usually enough for all of us) this was obviously pretty awkward especially if you weren’t an upperclassmen who had done it before. I fortunately didn’t do morning runs until my sophomore year, so I didn’t get hazed. too bad. But the towel whipping would get a little hectic post shower. There were some stories of kids getting peed on in the shower by upperclassmen, or getting their towels taken and not given to them until pretty much once class started. Just stuff like that. But I assume this doesn’t happen in the girls locker rooms😂

She might say she wants to pay, and all you have to do is say thanks and that it feels nice to be treated.

Luckily being both gay and unathletic saved me from both dealing with women and those locker room stages. And being a recluse has also protected me from any major injuries (aside from the ones I cause just by being a clumsy buffoon). Though from what I can relate to this video is pretty accurate.

I snuck into my school's girl's locker room before. I was shocked and amazed at how luxurious it was. It was **exactly** the same size as the boy's locker room, but they each had separate shower stalls and separate changing rooms.
I guess this was another example of "male privilege", right?
