  • Tackling a flooded river crossing by 4x4 can be dangerous and care should be taken to ensure it is within the limits of both driver and vehicle. The river crossings we took on this route are normally nothing more than a gentle stream on any other day.

@@JKoverland I suspect that 4WD Action Australia has hit deeper crossings, and longer crossings. Though I'd have to go back and look. I know The Grand Tour has done deeper crossings of about the same length. Of course, they have a full camera crew with them to save them if something goes horribly wrong.

The first to cross should always leave a tow line behind. Firstly if they make it they can pull the next vehicle if not they can get pulled back. Or daisy chain all the vehicles to make a train, best done with a solid bar to create a push me, pull you action. You made it , so all is well.

We walked the line along the banks and across the little foot bridge to get around the trees not cross it by walking so only up to waist and not in the main flow. By this time we had already driven the second for with the current so would have been very difficult to go back.

Water crossings are my favorite thing to do. That one was a little deeper than I've ever done however. My deepest/most worrisome was going across a flooded creek/river. The road on either side was a little over 2 lanes wide and the water was about 4 or 5. I started as far to the right (United states) as I could and by the time I got to the other side I had to turn into the current to make it up the opposite left side of the bank. That was in an xj with a 2" lift and 30s. My current xj has a 5" lift and 33s so it may do a little better but I haven't had the opportunity to find out yet.

You are so lucky that could have ended so badly the pressure in that water is in the tons, as an ex north yorkshire fire fighter working with swift water rescue there are so many things that you are lucky didn't happen, and if they had given your location it could have taken 5 hours for help to arrive, and the resources needed would have been significant as well as putting lives at risk, sorry guys love the chanel but this was a stupid thing to do.

@@syncrosimon they didn't do well, they were luck, they gung-ho attitude of the 130 driver putthem in harms way, on that first crossing you could see Jack wasn't keen and once he'd crossed Jack felt he had to go, at that point they couldn't turn round as the force of the water would probably have taken them down stream, 2nd crossing they picked up the large log if that had hit a vehicle on the first or third it could have tipped the balance, if there had been a sizable stone on the river bed and it lifted the vehicle the force of the water hitting at a different angle would have taken it down stream especially on the third crossing, if Jacks vehicle had washed down the defender would have been immobilised with the tention in the rope if not dragged in as well, and the girl that entered the water what if a log had hit her or if the winch rope hsd snagged on a submerged log or something she would have been dragged under and there would be nothing any of them could have done! And I know this because it happened to two firefighters about 7 years ago while trying to rescue others in a similar situation, those two men had young families. The situation they put themselves in during this tri not only endangered their lives but those of others, if this had gone wrong losing a vehicle would have been the best they could hope for and would more than likely have been body recovery

No one is disputing them having fun the issue arises when you need help and that would put other people’s lives in danger.

Yeah 90% of people live their life like, what if , what if, what if. And then try telling the other 10% how to live theirs.

Hi Jack, Have you added diff breathers to Molly? I would like to know if they are myth or reality.

    • @JKoverland
      @JKoverland  3 ปีที่แล้ว

Yes mate I have extended the diff breatherw up to the very top and back of the engine bay, an air pocket forms there so usually good unless was left under for a long time but you can raise to top of the snorkel. I've just changed all diff transfer oils not a drop of water!

    Good evening,
if I had been in the water, with my WG jeep, it would have stayed in the middle of the river,
the ECU computer unit should not have appreciated this forced bath.
Well done to you, and to Molly.
Sorry for my imperfect English, I am French.

The Defender was within a hairs breadth of floating off downstream, fast flowing rivers are not to be taken so lightly. You were a long way, but more importantly a long time away from rescue. Have fun folks but be safe.

I’ve actually witnessed a Toyota 100 series Land Cruiser cross a river, get swept 30 metres to their right, go that deep that only the head of the snorkel was above the water line, and drive up the bank on the opposite side. Those of us who witnessed it were certain once they started moving to the right, that they were gone. They came upon a rising sand & pebble track that used to be from an older crossing point.

Talk about how to be stupid. Beautifully illustrated in these videos. This level of water and speed of current is seriously dangerous. Foolhardy to attempt such a crossing. Irrespective.
