    Great work! I especially like the shots from Kanne, a lot of unexpected verticality there. The pictures in the quarries look like they could be made in an Egyptian ruin. Following your channel is showing me a whole lot of (local) destinations I didn't know about, and this on top of the photography content.
    Given that I'm using the Fuji X100V I can find a lot of inspiration here. Sometimes the focal length feels a bit wide to me, but you've made some really great shots in this one.

      Who would’ve known there is so much to discover in our part of the world 😇. You should definitely visit it soon, the fall colours give it that extra touch for photography 📸. There is also a historic NATO bunker in the area and guided tours of the caves (bit hard to plan with the little one, but apparently well worth the visit) ✌🏻

    Great video review, super nice photos, thanks for sharing your trips with us. Those locations are wonderful spots for photos! I agree with you the small lenses on Leica M bodies are just a dream, on my M10-R I opted for the Voigtlander 35mm f2 Ultron II and I’m very happy with it. I just followed you on IG. Cheers…. • @wilfredshum3703
      @wilfredshum3703 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@berndvandecruys Indeed. The major limitation of the M9 is its rather low ISO at 800 which limits its usage under good lighting conditions.

      Thanks Colin! Yeah, in retrospect that was the best time to buy :-). I spent a lot of time browsing through second hand websites and checking new listings. Nice video and very nice images! I shoot black and white for the most of the time but i really like the image editing of your color pictures - right amount of saturation and (maybe?) clarity. Do you use presets?

    • @berndvandecruys
      @berndvandecruys  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for the feedback, much appreciated! I do my post processing in CaptureOne and the DNG files of the Leica are just a joy to work with. I often use a Styles pack from CaptureOne, the one with Film emulations as base and do minor adjustments from there. I use it on a layer and take a % of the preset to not overdo it. Like you mentioned, it's all about finding balance (not overdo it) until it 'feels' right.

    I read that this lens is best at 5.6, and falls off wide open. Did you find this as well? Was the sharpness at F2 really that bad?

    • @berndvandecruys
      @berndvandecruys  ปีที่แล้ว

      Stopped down it’s indeed very good (like almost all lenses). Sharpness at F2 is good enough for me in the center. In the corners it does get quite soft, creating a bit of a dreamy sharpness vignetting you could say. Especially for portraits I like the softer look instead of clinical sharpness.
      If you want sharpness in a Summicron, the ASPH or APO are the way to go 💯

    Nice video man. I especially like the shot at 4:33. 🙂 Gotta say, it's super coincidental, that I just used the same song, in my most recent video. Which 35mm were you shooting before?

    • @berndvandecruys
      @berndvandecruys  ปีที่แล้ว

      The shadow on the red van was a lucky shot, but really like that one too 😇. Haha, I guess Epidemic Sound suggests it to people with good taste 😉. I was a 50mm guy for the past couple of years. Way back I used a big bulky 35 Sigma Art 1.4 on a Nikon D750. Always liked the focal length as a do it all kinda thing. Now with the M, I wanted something light and stealthy 🤘🏻. Which one do you use on the SL?

  • @RamonBrito
    @RamonBrito ปีที่แล้ว +1

    How do you it? How does it compare to the newest version

    • @berndvandecruys
      @berndvandecruys  ปีที่แล้ว

      So many options to choose from when it comes to 35mm lenses. I had a chance to borrow an APO for some time, which is an incredible lens, just perfect IQ. But this vintage one is perfect for what I was looking for. Small, light and with a vintage imperfect look to it. For portraits it gives a bit of glow and it’s just really flattering.
      I also take my camera out more often now. No need for a backpack 🙂

      @bernd The one you're using is a V3 or V4? I thought that V3 are the ones that have a serial number starting with 3.

    • @berndvandecruys
      @berndvandecruys  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@rudyhaddad88 I have a V4. The 3 as first digit in the serial number is not related to the version. There are websites where you can lookup the serial number of a particular lens and then you can see when it was manufactured. Together with the characteristics of the lens (form factor, focus tab style, aperture ring, ...) you can determine which version it is.
