Is the best Leica accessory a Canon printer?
In this video I take a closer look at the Selphy CP 1500 printer from Canon. An inexpensive but impressive small printer, that is great to print out photos at home. So good it beats ordering prints from a lab, at a better price point.

Thanks! It’s a great printer 💯
Yes yes
Yes indeed 😁
I haven't heard of this printer. Thanks for the tip! It looks like it is very cheap for the quality it can produce
Definitely check it out. Super good value for money indeed ✌🏻
I am curious whether an ink pack will last for 54 photos if you're printing only B&W. Please let us know if you run into this situation
Instead of ink pack it uses a roll of color sublimation sheets, like a photo kiosk printer. That also means the output is not "true" black and white. For me no dealbreaker.
Indeed, you could see during the intro that the print needed 3 runs through the printer to get to the final black and white result
Ik heb die printer ook, tof ding!
Veel value for money vind ik, niet makkelijk in 2025 😁
Hi. I want to consult you about something, I have a lens: New Leica Summilux M 1:1.4/35 ASPH. Black, but my dream is still to own: the Leica M 35mm APO Summicron. Do you advise me to sell the one I have and buy what I want? Or is there no difference between the two lenses? I watched all your videos about this lens and I really liked it. My regards. Your brother / Ahmed Daghriri. From Saudi Arabia.
Hello! Depends a bit on the camera you use the lens on, but with the high megapixel cameras like the M11 and the incredible ISO performance of modern cameras, I would recommend the 35 APO. That lens is the absolute pinnacle of M lens optical engineering and it will get the most image quality out of the current and future high megapixel cameras. Chasing dreams is good, making them reality is better :-)
@ my camera is Leica M10-R black paint.

Thanks for sharing!

definitely worth a look, especially if you can get it at a discount (I saw one on Amazon recently), which sweetens the deal even more.

I am speechless about your phantastic view. Great !
Thanks a lot Stephan! Never thought I would have so much fun with a black&white only camera.
my best digital M is M10r BP. Its last digital M with classic metering system and cosmetically have black paint with brass :) I heard M11 now also have 'glossy' black paint version but im very skeptical with new metering system and very 'sony' look sensor.
Hello Are you satisfied with life time batteries ? How many pictures can you take with one 80% charged original battery ? With new battery I can not take more than 100 pictures ( with new battery ) . Thanks for your reply
The M10R is highly regarded by the photographers I know that have one. A black paint & brass combo is practically unbeatable and ages very nicely indeed. The M11 shaves off some weight, which always helps when doing a day of shooting and walking/hiking. The option to do highlight metering is quite nice though.
the battery of the M11 is way better than the M10 ones, but it all comes down to how you like to shoot. If Liveview, standbye and reviewing pictures is your thing, battery life will go down significantly. The option to recharge on the go with a USB-C powerbank is a huge plus and should fix battery anxiety imo :-)
@@berndvandecruys ok thanks for your reply . i forgot to mention that my question was related to M10-R and battery BP-SCL-5 . Not using liveview . this battery life is very short and very short compared for example to Nikon D700 or D850 batteries even if similar external dimensions . The BP-SCL-5 is not performing as well as Nikon battery . I do not know if Leica is aware of this but they should introduce new version with better internal cells .
Apart.
Makes sense.
✅
Leica M10 Monochrom. I like the shutter operation and sound much more than on the M11 and that alone is enough for me to prefer it. To be honest I also like the smooth and solid base plate and the brass construction. I believe the M11 is aluminium.
Interesting, but I wish you had indicated your SOOC jpeg settings. IMHO, jpegs are useless SOOC especially in this setting since both cameras shine using RAW captures. I own both and I find it a PITA too use Phocus and then export to C1 which is my main PP software. So that is why I tend to use the SL3 more and as a aside the SL3 has a much better lens line up with the L Mount alliance.
If C1 would ever support (unlikely) the Hasselblad files, that would be a game changer indeed. The diverse lens line-up is indeed a big plus for the SL system 💯
arguably. The best camera is the one you have at hand. Or the most adequate for the job. i use an S3 as a backup camera for a Phase One XF with an IQ4 back. The S3 is quite decent, its lenses are superb, and probably is the best Leica (I have accumulated a few along the years) for my line of work and my needs as a professional. I suppose it’s inevitable to pose these fancy titles for youtube videos, but… really?
A topic like this does indeed lead to more engagement. I understand that it holds little to no value for a professional like you. Hopefully it was at least (a bit) entertaining ✌🏻.
@@berndvandecruys it was :-)
🖤🖤
Thanks!
Yes, a monochrome camera will be approx 4x sharper than a colour one, but you ,au need to use a colour filter in front of it as you cannot adjust the greyscale conversion after the fact, unlike a colour sensor. And it’s positively not timeless! Black & white didn’t exist before photography, and most of the world shifted to colour in the 1950s. My millennial kids just look at b&w as pointlessly obsolete.
So far, I’ve been liking the results without colour filters in front of the lens. At times I don’t even see colour anymore and just focus on light based contrast. A bit of luma based dodging and burning in CaptureOne also works for me. Hopefully the kids will come to appreciate b\w in a couple of years, like I did 😉😇
Erg mooie en goede foto verwerking, Bernd
Bedankt Ruud!
Bernd, Mooie zwart & wit foto’s top❗️
Nog veel te leren, maar al heel tevreden met de resultaten van de M10M ✌🏻
Completely agree. The more minimalist, the better. Maybe the most minimalist Leica camera is the Q2 Monochrome, since it even has a fixed lens. And auto focus actually makes photography simpler, rather than more complicated.
The Q2M is indeed a great contender. Autofocus is becoming a more complicated feature with all its different modes and subject detection options. F8 and zone focusing on a wide lens, simple fast autofocus 😉😇
@@berndvandecruys Hehe yes that is a good approach. This is why the Rollei 35 is still my all time favorite camera. There is not even a rangefinder. It is all zone focus. And it is tiny and well made.
One inference that one can gather from TH-cam is that it is not possible to take a fine photograph without a Leica. My experience in photography started in the late 1950s. It suggests that Leicas are very fine cameras, but that superb results can be obtained using cameras that are far cheaper.
Completely true that one can take/make great photographs with cheap cameras and bad ones with expensive cameras. But a camera and lenses is more than price alone, and there are plenty of options available fortunately ✌🏻
I add that I would not trade my Leica M3 with v1 35mm summichron for any other camera on earth!
@@jeremykeller211 I deliberately left out the analogue M's for this video 😇
So brave yet so controversial @jeremykeller211. I truly applaud you for taking a stand against this thing that happens... well never but it COULD happen and that's what's important.
Best of all Leicas is the zv e10!
Did not consider it, autofocus is too good 😉
@@berndvandecruys LOL <3
the zv e10 is all I have, that's why it has to be my best leica of all :) Not complaining though, it's a good little box
I've never shot with any of the digital monochrom Leica cameras but to me the M10-R is their best overall digital M. I've thought about adding the M10-M or the M-P to my kit but honestly my Nikon Zf with its black and white mode get's the job done.
That Nikon Zf is a great camera indeed. The physical switch to a B/W mode seems trivial, but is a very nice feature imo. I would suggest to try a monochrome M, rent it for a day and compare the photos to the ones you have. ✌🏻
I have Leica M9, M240, M246, & M10R……most preferred is M246 Monochrome when B&W matters.
Great kit you have there 💯👌🏻
Beautiful images taken at a 'touching' environment. I like the out of focus principle. Let's experiment some more with this. ;)
Guess we need to plan a lot more trips in 2025 😁
I currently have an M9M with "new" sensor and under 25 thousand clicks. Still shooting film mostly but this monochrome is very good. I only have some reservation about using only lenses for sharpness, like the 50 Summilux. I use a 50 Summicron but some old glass that really appeals and gives the images an even more film-like look - which for me is a good thing. Thanks for the video.
Absolutely right. I have the 50 lux for that crisp look and the 35 cron type IV for a more vintage/interesting look. Would love the try out Mandlers 75 1.4 at some point on a monochrome sensor
@@berndvandecruys Yeah the 35v4 is nice anyway. I also use an Elmar and a surprisingly interesting Jupiter 3 / 50mm f1.5. - cheers!
Well-presented! My Leica Monochrom is the M Type 246 model, so, not as capable as the M10 Monochrom, with such things as ISO settings range, but the same general principles apply.
Yep, all monochrome iterations are included 😇
Agreed; however, my favorite is still the CCD M Monochrom, the one camera does not make me wish for anything newer or different. I sold the first one i had and kept regretting it, until i bought another one, which is not going anywhere!
I only tried out a regular M9 in the past. Have been hearing a lot of great stuff about the monochrome version of the M9. Which lens do you typically use on it?
@@berndvandecruys several different ones, my go-to is probably my 1955 summicron 50mm.
Whats your reason for choosing the M10 Monochrom specifically over other Leica Monochrom models? Personally, I prefer the M11 Monochrom for its performance and the M9 Monochrom for its unique characteristics.
In my reasoning I tried to cover all monochrome iterations 😇. I specifically showed the M10M, because it’s the one I was able to get 😁. For me it hits the sweet spot with the 40 megapixels and overall camera body design/dimensions. I would love the USB-C, battery, internal storage, highlight weighted metering of the M11M though 🙌🏻
@berndvandecruys Thank you for your thoughtful reply. I've used all the Monochrom Leica models, and the M9M remains my favorite. Reason #1: The combination of the CCD sensor and Monochrom is truly a match made in heaven. There's something uniquely special about every image it produces. Reason #2: Its shape and thickness fit my hand perfectly. It's much easier to carry compared to the M10M or M11M, which feel too thin, and the M246M, which is slightly too thick. Reason #3: I used the M9M for nearly 10 years, capturing over 40,000 shots, giving me the fondest memories of photography. Most importantly, it has never required a single repair during all those years. Its durability is remarkably impressive. Reason #4: Its shoots great in the dark, just good enough I would say. Yes you get grain, but it's not modern CMOS grain, but lovely CCD film like grain. Way better than shooting black/white film at night for sure. Reason #5: I live in Seoul Korea and if you meet Leica shooters through meet ups, every other shooters got either M10M or M11M. But not many owns M9M. That rarity makes it special! Other Monochrom shooters often want to try mine. In some days, we swap camera for the entire day of shooting.
Thanks a lot for this in depth feedback 🙌🏻. I’ve only used the M11M briefly on a photo walk, but now I’m really curious about the M9M as well 🤩
I’m keeping my m10m because the sensor actually performed better in a lot ways when evaluating noise structure in the shadows. It some instances the m10m outclassed the new 60mp Sony sensor. However there are benefits to m11m. Battery life is the biggest thing. Otherwise I did see the m11m as a large enough upgrade.
@@D.Trider While the M11 Monochrom may not seem like a major upgrade over the M10 Monochrom to some, here are three reasons why I put M11M above M10M. Reason #1: Cooler Sensor Output. The M11 line of sensors generally produce cooler tones compared to the warmer tones of the M10 line. Same applies here. Personally, I find the cooler rendering more appealing for B/W photography. However, I understand that this is subjective, and some might prefer the warmth of the M10M’s output. Reason #2: Improved ISO Performance. The M10 Monochrom is already an exceptional low light performer, but the M11 Monochrom takes it to the next level. In photography, even a marginal improvement can make a significant difference, and the leap in ISO performance here is more than marginal. For those of us who rarely use flash, ISO improvement plays bigger role. Reason #3: Grippier Paint Finish. The new paint finish on the M11 Monochrom has received mixed reactions, but I find it to be an advantage for one specific reason: grip. I tend to use my cameras intensively without protective cases, silly me, but I enjoy the tactile connection with my tools. On damp or hot days, the added grippiness of the new paint is a major plus, especially for those of us with sweaty hands. These are just my thoughts, while acknowledging that preference is a highly subjective matter in today’s world.
Great talking!
Thanks! 🙏🏻
M11M is a super camera, more capable than any camera I’ve ever seen, and I have a few. No CFA allows an incredible amount of greater information onto the sensor. Absolutely stunning. And the depth of information in shadows is unbelievable, and can easily be lifted in editing beyond what one would imagine. I don’t like that. I can’t use flash and the EVF at the same time (& thumbgrip, nec for a larger/longer lens). Size, weight, and feel are incredible by every standard.
Do you ever use the different resolutions? The M11M iteration does indeed offer a lot of usability benefits, battery & charging, internal memory, weight, on top of the sublime IQ
I compared to my m10m- I didn’t see any noticeable difference. In fact saw the m10m was actually performing better in a lot of ways than the m11m.
I had an M9 monochrome. When I discovered that the sensor was corroding, and that by that time it could not be replaced, it left me upset with the 'monochrome adventure'. Maybe I should have a rethink. I have to say though that I get beautiful B&W files on my M11. Groetjes uit Hasselt, Frans
The seed has been planted 😉. Een monochrome M ligt mss nog in het verschiet voor de toekomst 🔮 😇
@@berndvandecruys To continue with the image of the seed: your words fall on fertile soil. Als ik niet oppas moet ik straks nog iets aan mijn bestelling bij Dieter toevoegen...😉
Very good points… all of them. I have an SL2-S that I shoot in mono occasionally, but it would be wonderful to have a Monochrome M body. I can use the M lenses on the SL2 as well! Any recommendations on specific bodies? Where would I get the most bang for my buck? Thanks!
I am on my second MM with CCD; the first one had the famous sensor issue (it was never corrosion, the problem was due to the incorrect glue used to attach the covering glass to the actual sensor; it was allowing some moisture to get in and create the flaws.) It was at the time repaired by Leica with a (free) new sensor. After I sold it, i was really missing and eventually bought another one, which also had sensor issues. By that time, there were no more repairs offered by Leica, and no more replacement sensors, so I sent it to one of the two companies here in the US that will remove the old glass, clean the surface and apply a new and improved version that will not suffer the same fate. I am enjoying it a lot, and have no worries about random spots on the sensor!!! I believe there is one company in the UK that also performs the service, it might be closer to you?

@@berndvandecruys50k iso looks like p3200 film and I love it.
I have the M10-P and the M10M. When I take the mono, I have to switch off my color brain to pick images that will work in B&W. So the first 5-10 images are usually boring.
What’s your favourite lens for the M10M?
The 24mm summilux is my go to, followed closely by the 50 summilux. The dynamic range on the files on the m10m is great but I end up shooting under exposed, so reviewing on the screen isn’t all that useful.
Great combo, 24 and 50. Allan Schaller makes a lot of his work with the 24 Lux as well 👌🏻
For my professional work, I've a M240, M240P, SL2-S and for fun the Digilux 2, so no monos. I have to convert to B/W, but when I stumble over a M246, I would buy it by accident. Thanks for sharing and keep on rolling.
