    The Leica M10 in 2024 - I have always wanted the M10, I had the M240 and it never scratched that itch. The M10 does exactly that, I hope you enjoy these photos and video of why I purchased this camera.

    The interesting thing about people who say that Leica's are for rich people, etc...they never talk about the common trend of people spending thousands and thousands of dollars on some Sony, Fuji, etc setup...and then literally a year later they do the same process all over again for the next "trendy" model that's released. leica owners tend to keep their cameras for years, so in the long run ,it actually ends up being cheaper to own.

      You’re so right. I wish I would have used that nugget in there! Great point, thanks for watching 🙏🏼🙏🏼 like all the x100v people that paid too much just because it costs more at that point in time and now have to have the x100vi 😅

      And they keep their value so actual cost of ownership is LOWER. I have an M10-P that I purchased used almost two years ago that I can sell for the same amount today. Cost of ownership if I were to sell now? $0 I purchased a Panasonic S1H at the same time that I would take almost a $3k loss on if I sold today.

    Great video Hunter. I commented on Threads on it too (firefighter)
    I loved the little barrage of photos at the end, I’d have loved to see them slowed down too. I own the Q3 now.
    Story went like this- was all Fuji, sold it all, got Sonys for weddings, picked up a Q2 for me, fell in love with it. Then got sucked in with the X100Vi hype, sold my Q2 and got one- realised I’d made a massive mistake and sold it, did what I should have done, got a Q3. Absolutely love it and know it will be with me for years, much like one of the comments on here.
    You seem like a very cool guy from what I see on here- if you are ever in Scotland hit me up for a beer and some camera geek out!

    I just picked up a Leica M9 to try the CCD sensor and its also my first go at a real rangefinder manual focus experience. I can totally relate to sweat equity thing, I’m so used to my Sony’s or Fuji’s giving me real time displays and tracking AF, it makes using the M9 such a crazy new style of photography. The M9 might blow highlights even more than the 10 so contrasts scenes are a rough go for me so far. Also I got into photography like 2015-2016 and learning that the M9 practical ISO range is max 800-1000 is crazy from what I’m used to on my Fujis. Enjoy the camera man. All I have so far is the Voigt 40 1.4

    I just love all of your photos man...!!
    I have the M10 for almost 2 years now.
    I'm saying the same thing. You have to work more for you results. More actual Skill is needed
    to get a great result!
    I also got a Q3. And most of the time I take my Q3 with me. Mostly the close focus distance of my 35 1.4 Voigtländer of 70cm is annoying :D
    The Q3 gets so close in comparison. And the 28mm Summilux is hard to beat.
    But the Shooting style with the M10 is just really lovely.

    The best combo is Leica glass on a Fuji body. The DR 400 mode on the Fuji gives 3 to 5 stops of highlight retention. Is not about the correct exposure. This is about getting a much more filmic rolloff on highlights..
    The modern amenities of a Fuji body like an EVF, and with the x transform 4 sensor fast read out combined with the Leica glass truly gives you a vintage image . Don’t forget about those film simulations, which give you some amazing out of camera results, especially with your own custom set up. The highlight and shadow tone curves gives you exceptional control on the image.
    Plus, the reality that Digital bodies are subject to digital rot. Something that is not immune from.

    The ‘blown highlights’ thing is a bit of a myth for me with this camera. I have zero problems shooting with it once you 1. Shoot underexposed and 2. Learn how to edit the files which is a joy to experience how they behave. It’s all there! You justness to step away from being spoilt by modern tech :)

    Maaan, this video was bonkers! Really well done and I am subscribed now :) I use a Fuji x pro3 & x100vi but I been looking at Leicas lately. The x100vi could almost finance a M240 completely or I could sell all my lenses and x pro3 and buy maybe the m10. Well, well..I will make it easy and stick to my poor man Leicas for now (x pro3 with Voigtländer lens)

    • @hunterhart1
      @hunterhart1  16 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      The XPro 3 is one of my favorite cameras, I actually did a video on it a while back. I bought the M10 because I wanted it since it's release date. It will not make me a better photographer, just a goal I set for myself a long time ago. I have had 4 Leicas now and the only one that I feel really amped up my game was the Leica Q solely because of the lens on it. I would not read too much into the hype of these cameras, the X100 series and XPro series are amazing. Here is a video on the XPro 3 that you may want to watch! th-cam.com/video/ilRxUh141vE/w-d-xo.htmlsi=ejK0Yt6-Jzw4Y7My

      @@hunterhart1 thanks for the linke and that's another good video. The x pro3 with Voigtländer lenses with the X Mount are fun to use but I got four kids, one being a baby and I can't be shooting manual focus lenses every time. I switch things up with Voigtländer lenses if I have the time and that's good, but I would try a proper rangefinder one day. I will wait for the x pro4 and see what's up. If it's any good I could sell my cameras, buy the x pro4 and see where it takes me. I don't expect similiar build quality on the four as on the three. The Duratect coating is really something else! Bro, you made me laugh so hard, precisely your nose joke, that I had to subscribe to your channel. Congrats on your new acquisition. I know so many doctors and attorneys that they would rather have a camera kit sold at COSTCO instead of getting a fine camera like the Leica. Most of them are point-and-shoot and let the camera and lenses do their magic instead of following the more traditional manual way. When I was 12 (a lifetime ago), an uncle gave me a Yashica Mat 124G. There was no TH-cam in 1972 to learn how to take pictures, just trial and error and then shooting again to fix the mistakes. Most of my shooting was done with manual film cameras until last year, when I jumped into the digital realm with a Fujifilm X-T30II and a used X-E3. Why those cameras in particular? They're retro and manual dials. I cannot shake the old habits. I own 13 lenses, and only four are AF; the rest are manual lenses. I do love my Fuji cameras, but I still shoot my Yashicas Mat and my Canons AE1-P. Stay safe🙏.

      @hunterhart1  14 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Thanks so much for sharing and I’m glad I could make you laugh 😅. I have had quite a few Canon AE1s myself, great cameras and easy to use. I myself learned on film (before TH-cam), it hasn’t been around that long. I have to say I wasn’t any good for a long time but that’s okay. Fujifilm makes amazing cameras, I have done tons of reviews on them! Thanks so much for watching and subscribing!

    Super curious about something: what is it the M10 gives you that the M240 did not? I'm currently on the M240 and loving it to death. I totally get why someone might upgrade for better ISO performance- and that handy externalized dial- but is there something larger at play?
    Nice shots 🙌 And well done, thought out video. Great alternative to the talking head usual fair.

    • @hunterhart1
      @hunterhart1  17 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Hey! Great question. I had the M240 and loved the images that I got out of it but the cameras menu system + buttons drove me insane. On top of that it was so thick in comparison to the M10. Really it’s not the image quality difference, it’s just the build + size and feel overall. Thanks so much for your compliment, it wasn’t an easy video to make 🙏🏼

    • @SourPlanet
      @SourPlanet 17 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @@hunterhart1 No, it definitely doesn't look like an easy video to make. I hope to make content that's a bit more planned out and even storyboarded... so this random rec was a really helpful little example.
      Thanks for the clear answer. That's kind of how I felt holding the M10 too. Overall it just had that little bit of extra refinement the system needs. I'll beat my M240 to death, knowing that when it keels the M10 is waiting. Maybe by then I'll have enough cash aside to pick it up ha.

      @hunterhart1 It's an interesting camera with a lot of the same limitations as my old Sony Alpha dslrs from that time period in regards to iso noise and highlight recovery . Like the camera a lot it just requires full intent with every shot like a film camera. Leica no longer repairs them so just going to use it until it bricks.
