    Robert Plant was 19 when this was recorded. I'm seeing him in concert in June, he's touring with Alison Krauss who I'm sure is very talented, but I couldn't give a rats ass about her. Before the electronic age, we composed music for acoustic instruments, first for percussion and melody, but by the 1600/1700s composers were experimenting with sound effects too--playing with the handle of the bow on a violin or weaving paper between the strings to make them buzz, mimicking bird calls with trills, thumb tacks in piano hammers to make them sound tinny...
    Good musicians today understand how to use electronics to explore the millions of sounds we have yet to hear.
    Y'all should check out something like Varese Poeme Electronique or maybe some Harry Parch (he built his own instruments). There are also cool crossovers from classical to synth/electronic: Isao Tomita built his own massive synthesizers in the early 70s and recorded Mussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition, replacing every orchestral instrument with an electronic sound of his own design.
    Humans are awesome. :)

  • @henriettaskolnick4445
    @henriettaskolnick4445 2 ปีที่แล้ว +33

    This song is a reworking of a blues song written by Willie Dixon and recorded by Muddy Waters. The "race car" sound is Jimmy playing up the guitar neck. The strange sounds is Jimmy playing a Theremin. A Theremin is an aerial-looking device that creates an oscillating tone by moving your hand close to it and away from it and the pitch is controlled by a knob on a console. This was very avant-garde for its time. Another good term for their musical genius is Alchemy. You said you guys only listen to the Zep songs you've reacted to; well, this song sounds amazing on headphones because the music pans back and forth between the headphones. When you try it, you'll see what I mean.

    My wife and I love watching your reactions. We were born in 1961. We listened to all the bands in the 70s.
    We would like to recommend a band called Journey song Separate Ways.
    Thank you for your channel.

    Yeah this is killer for sure. It is one of the greatest ever done. Definitely hope you do Moby Dick. It will showcase the greatness of the drummer here.

    The “what the hell is that” slow section in the middle? A guitar being played with a violin bow! Insane!

    JPJ on bass and one of my favorite riffs ever! So bad ass sounding! Jimmy Page liked to experiment playing his guitar with a violin bow which is what you are hearing during the . . . shall we say "interlude" section.
