      Biggest Zeppelin fan in the world, but nah they weren't as good live. Jimmy Page touches up the audio on the official live releases they do. The Achilles performance at Knebworth was garbage; Page was too fucked up heroin to play coherently so he rerecorded it.

    “Immigrant Song”, “In My Time of Dying”, "Misty Mountain Hop", "Black Dog", "Good Times Bad Times", “Babe I’m Gonna Leave You”, and “Bron-Y-Aur Stomp” are also great zeppelin songs. When Robert plant sang babe I’m gonna leave you he was 19, and his vocal performance is so visceral and conveys so much emotion. Bron-y-aur stomp is about Robert Plants dog, and Immigrant song and In My Time of Dying speak for themselves when you listen to it. I discovered Led Zeppelin a few years ago in the soundtrack of the credits of a movie, when the levee breaks was playing, and haven’t stopped listening since. That was one of the most important moments in my life. Love seeing you guys go through the stages of zeppelin. Say goodbye to life as you knew it, it will never be the same.

    In addition to hearing the studio cut, sometime when you get to video reactions there is a full cut of Achilles from Knebworth in 1979 that is worth a watch. The vocals for this track were recorded in 1976 by Robert while sitting in a wheelchair following a near-fatal car accident in late 1975. His leg was so badly damaged that it was feared he'd never walk again. Ironic that this song was recorded with his leg so badly injured.

    • @jonathanlocke6404
      @jonathanlocke6404 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I always thought you could kinda hear it in his voice. Like he was frustrated with what I'm sure was limited mobility and pain and discomfort and a long recovery, and put all his energy into the vocals...

    • @tektoniks_architects

      He was not happy about being out in that position by Jimmy, who insisted on releasing an album. Lyrics in other songs on this album take veiled jabs at impatience. Resentment towards Jimmy and the band began to build in Robert as a result, and following the death of Robert's son soon after left Robert questioning whether or not he wanted to continue. Robert's lyrics in Carouselambra in the next album directly call out Jimmy Page unmistakably. This album was the beginning of the end for Zeppelin.

      @@jonathanlocke6404 They ran their course. Jimmy spiraled into dependency, and then Bonzo. It was inevitable at a certain point. Which is unfortunate, because in 1980, they did some European shows that you can see flashes of the old Jimmy. But Bonzo hated being on the road away from his family, and his depression led to his drinking binges, and that was it.

      @@tektoniks_architects I just thought the last album was disappointing, and I wish they'd gone out on a higher note. Of course, "Let It Be" and "The Final Cut" aren't that great, either. I sometimes fantasize about them taking two or three years off after "Presence", Jimmy and John cleaning up, and coming back later in the early 80's with something that sounded like them but maybe influenced by things that had happened since 1976...

    This is the most impressive rock song ever written. It is in the truest sense a masterpiece and evidence that Led Zeppelin were just as musically brilliant and imaginative as the greatest classical composers such as, Bach, Mozart, and Beethoven. This track is also Jimmy Page’s magnum opus and his favourite Led Zeppelin song.

    The album this is from, "Presence", is underrated. Most more casual fans are unfamiliar with it, and not much of this is ever played on classic rock radio. It's different from the other albums in that most of the earlier ones had a wider, eclectic variety of sounds and styles and moods. This one is very much one piece in tone...Urgent...

      I read an editorial once, describing LZs first four albums.
      They said Led Zeppelin 1 was the album of a talented band, still looking for it's strong points.
      Led Zeppelin 2 was a band that knew exactly what their strong point were. And how to showcase the.
      Led Zeppelin 3 was a band not content to stay where they were. But were searching for new strong points.
      And Led Zeppelin 4 was a band, that could just do anything.

    While a ton of people will agree with you, that Led Zeppelin is the greatest band ever, most will say The Beatles, and then The Rolling Stones. A few, like me, will say YES, and a few others will say Pink Floyd or RUSH or ELP or Jethro Tull or Genesis. Regardless of where you rank them, they're all great, and everyone has their own opinion, but that's what makes life so cool. Imagine how boring life would be if we all agreed with each other all the time : )

    Each great band were great in each their time. Like, Crown of Creation- Jefferson Airplane. Superb! No one was ready for them. But Led Zeppelin is timeless and are ahead of their time. And we were ready, willing, and able to travel with them! That is what greatness is!

    Ginger Baker said Bohman couldn’t swing a sack of sh*r to which we say “WHO GIVES A (sack of) SH*T GINGER!” This is a master rock drummer. There’s Bonzo, and there’s everyone else.

    It was great to see you guys getting your faces melted by that INSANE Led Zepp song! John Bonham was a legend and this song is a prime example! Plus, the lyrics, vocals and guitar work was so epic and dramatic! The guitar work on this album, in particular, is incredible. You guys should check out another song from this album called "Royal Orleans"!! It's super fun and groovy and funky! Great song you could put on at a party and get the place jumpin'! You gotta hear it!

    12 men walked on the moon.
    But there were only 4 guys in Led Zeppelin. 🤣 Enjoyed your reaction!
    Yeah you definitely are discovering what many say is the greatest rock band ever. I always thought so. But it’s subjective of course, there are so many great bands from this era.
    Zeppelins diversity is off the charts. If you guys can make the time for it start from square one. Start with side one of Led Zeppelin (One as it’s called usually) at a time, or do something like 2 songs at a time. But start from the beginning. It’ll give you the right chronological perspective and ultimate appreciation for Zeppelin’s epic catalog. It’ll take a while but it’s totally worth it!
    Thanks too for keeping your dialogue clean.
    Subbed!

    Fun watching you guys discover LZ! My generation of music, including LZ, was insanely good! Many great bands, so many different sounds. Suggest you check out the band YES (Roundabout), the Edgar Winter Group (Frankenstein), Deep Purple (Smoke on the Water), the Rolling Stones ( Honky Tonk Woman, You Can't Always Get What You Want), AC/DC ( Thunderstruck, Back in Black), Chicago (25 or 6 to 4), and of course the Beatles (Across the Universe, Helter Skelter) just to scratch the surface with some of the better known songs and groups of your grandparents' time. LZ was huge!!...but when you dig into more of this, you will be completely shocked at what's out there waiting for you!

      "...there wasn't anything else like it in their whole collection."

    • @markjohnson4217
      @markjohnson4217 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@robbob5302 You could almost say that, but their first two albums really had that consistent vibe of heavy blues rock, hard riffs and lyrical simplicity, even though we musicians knew that there was always crazy shit going on beneath and throughout it all. Zeppelin 3 brought in some really exotic acoustic folk influences, and with FOUR, we heard combinations .... of the above. BUT you are right, they always manage to bfrin in a new "757 bustin down January's door.."

    Words cannot express how much Led Zeppelin means to me. I'm 48 years old and I discovered LZ from my brother's collection of albums as a young teenager. I had Breast Cancer a few years ago &had to go through chemo & radiation. I practically lived with my earbuds in on playing LZ in my playlist. I used their music as a focal point for me & they helped me endure. I really enjoy seeing the joy you guys express while listening. Check out , In my time of dying, that song.. 🎤 is so powerful. Music speaks to the soul. 😊💯😁

    Black Dog, Fool in the Rain, Rock & Roll, Babe I'm Gonna Leave You, Going to California, 10 Years Gone, Rain Song, Good Times Bad Times, HeartBreaker / Living Loving Maid (usually played together), Over the Hills & Far Away, In My Time of Dying, Nobody's Fault But Mine, Hey Hey What Can I Do, Thank You, Immigrant Song, The Ocean... There are SO many more Led Zeppelin songs that are just killer. I'm telling ya, there are some amazing bands but no one has the volume of awesome songs that LZ has

    Zay & Zel, I do appreciate your appreciation for the greatest band to ever lace up a pair of Nike's. Achilles Last Stand was my intro song when I was just 13 years old way back in 1976. Your reaction reminds me so much of my own. My friend dropped the needle and I was instantly hooked and mesmerized by the amazing quality of sound. I remember wondering about all the huge racket going on in the back with Bonzo on the drums. Every new experience I had with Zeppelin's catalog was pure amazement. Thanks for bringing it back. Zay, you are an ex AIC guy!!!! I played football there a long time ago. Keep it chiming fellas!!!!!!

    You guys would have gone absolutely nuts if you’d ever seen them perform live and this song especially. Blessed enough to see them twice in 1975 and 1977 at the youthful ages of 19 and 21. Page and Plant in 1998 in many ways was just as awesome as technology had advanced so much in the live sound systems in concert compared to the late 70s even.
