  • In this video I cover the question can you finance a motorcycle with no credit? I get asked all the time is it possible to finance and make payments on a motorcycle with no credit or finance a motorcycle with bad credit. This is a weird question to answer because there are so many variables, but here we go!
    SUBSCRIBE!
    Yes, it is possible to get financed for a motorcycle with no credit history, but you will need one or both of the following things:
    You will either need a good qualified cosigner, and/or you will need a decent amount of cash to put down. In this video I cover in-depth what it takes to get financed with a cosigner (and what a qualified cosigner really is), as well as get financed with cash down.
    Keep the questions coming, and I'll keep answering them here on Ask a Motorcycle Guy.

    This is common sense - so skip this video people - basically he says - get a co-signer with 700 credit score to sign with you or put down like 30 to 50 percent down and you will get approved for a bike - done

    Super helpful for me but if I have bad credit and can only put down 1,000 or a little less than that and I have a good co signer will that make my payments lower or higher or does it depend on the bike I want for example let’s say I want to get a street bob pre owned or a dyna would my payments be high or low

    Quick question, I have the Yamaha credit card I just paid off my FZ-07, I went to my local dealer cause I was interested in trading my bike in for a DRZ 400SM and wanted to out the difference on my Yamaha card and was told I would need to reapply for financing , I called Yamaha and they said it was revolving credit and I could spend it on anything I wanted, so is the dealer trying to screw me or is Yamaha wrong ?

    I am planning to buy a Yamaha Bolt that costly like $8 or $9000 on this year and I wonder, in your opinion: lets say I'm going to put down at least $1500 with a low credit at about 600+ is there a chance that they are going to approved my finance application. Another thing is do you think it'll affect my application from them, because I have another monthly paying on the new car I just bought last month?

    I have decent credit(680-700 both transunion and Equifax) like the Credit Karma App says that it's a fair credit score, and I was giving 50% of the bikes total price as the down payment and the dealer still rejected my finance option. I know I am a student in college without a big ass student loan, like my tuition and manage a credit limit of $4000 and still I was rejected. It literally broke my heart because I dont have car or motorcycle, so I have to fucking uber everywhere I go because guess what Alabama doesn't have public transportation system.

    Okay, so here's a big one. I occasionally cart friends and family around in my 05 Ram Hemi quad cab with a 6'4 bed. I so far haven't used it as a truck for MYSELF, only for others. There ARE a couple of projects I want to do and things I want to get that will require something with significant cargo capacity, but, this thing gets TERRIBLE gas mileage [I can't get it to reach 11mpg, and I city drive 99% of the time] and it also has some pretty notable body issues.
    Thing is, I got it for free when my dad left it to me in his will. I want something faster, nicer, and better on gas, though. Eventually, I'd LIKE a 14+ Ecodiesel crew cab with the 6'4 bed, but that's kinda way off. As a short term fix[especially on the speed, niceness, and freedom aspect, and because I like motorcycles] do you think I should fix what I can for a reasonable price on this truck and sell it to pay for a/the bike I want [CB1100] and gear, or keep the cager and try to get the bike another way?
    Other things to consider before you tell me. I currently have no credit, make about 27500 a year total, and have to pay 220 a month insurance on the truck and $50-$75 a week on it for gas. It's owned outright by me, and if the body was pristine, I MIGHT get 6k-8k for it if I'm lucky, with 4k being about the minimum I'd sell it for. I've been quoted $2500-$3000 to repaint the whole truck[factory quality, no Maaco shit], including door jambs, and this includes fixing two bed dents, but I'll have to replace the fender and tailgate myself.
    So, what's your take?

    • @AlexSimmons11c
      @AlexSimmons11c  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Man it sounds to me like the money you would have to put in the truck to make it "pristine" won't be worth what you would get back out of it. If you did sell the truck, I would get the max you can for it as-is.
      That being said since your dad left you the truck it's really a decision only you can make. The good news is if you keep the truck and find a way to get a bike, then you won't be using the truck so much and your gas bill will go way down. In this particular situation I think I would keep the truck and either save for a decent cheap cash bike (or finance a cheap one if you can find a local lender that will help you with no credit). Mostly because your dad left it to you and it sounds like in the trucks condition you won't get what you should out of it.
      You may need to get an inexpensive bike to save on gas and get riding, and then go for the CB1100 a little later on when you can save some money (which it sounds like putting gas in the truck is keeping you from easily doing).

    Hey, Alex, good info and good video. At the moment, I'm looking at a 10k bike. I don't have any credit but I have a considerable chunk of change (upwards of 8k) and an excellent co-signer. Now would I want to put down all or almost all of my money as a down payment, or is there a point where you run into diminishing returns? I imagine I want to hold onto some for any taxes, licensing, fees, etc. as well as for any incidentals down the road. Thank you.

    • @AlexSimmons11c
      @AlexSimmons11c  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi Emilio! If you have that much cash down AND a good cosigner you should be set brother! I would not pout down more than about 3-4k in that scenario, that will be plenty to get your equity in the bike where you want it and will keep the rest in your pocket to get good gear, and take care of your future maintenance properly. You should have no issues getting a 10k bike with 3-4k down and a good cosigner.

I went in the first time with only 1,000$ downpayment by myself but I have very little credit an they wanted a cosigner an the only person I have who can cosign has okay credit but a good job? Should I go in again an bring that friend whos willing to try an cosign with me anyways? Also they go through a couple local credit unions. The one said they would lend me the money if I had a cosigner with good credit.

      All dealers use a bank or credit union, unless you can find a "buy here--pay here" place for motorcycles. But, like those car dealers, your chances of finding a "cream puff" are almost non-existent!

      Hi Tasneem, I would go ahead and give it a shot with your $1000 down. Honda has a good first time buyers program that you may qualify for so give that a try, and see what happens! Worst case scenario is they would ask for a qualified cosigner on your loan.

    • @AlexSimmons11c
      @AlexSimmons11c  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Depending on where you are in the U.S. and what lender you use, you can expect APR for good credit (700+) in the 5%-7% range depending on length of term, for medium credit (600-675) in the 7%-9.9% range, and bad credit (under 600) in the 14.99% and up range. These are just super basic numbers, there are way too many variables

    I was looking to buy a street bob. I have 5-7k to put down on the bike but no credit history, I was wondering if this would be at all reasonable seeing as how most of the used street bobs I've come across at dealers seem to be around 10k minimum. I don't know a lot about how financing works but I was also wondering if you can make upgrades to the bike if it is being financed? For example new exhaust system, air intake, and some sweet bars? Any info would be helpful thanks!

    • @AlexSimmons11c
      @AlexSimmons11c  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Absolutely! If you have that much to put down on a used Street Bob you should be able to make something happen with a local credit union or bank, since that's over 50% down. And yes if you finance it you are perfectly fine making upgrades to the bike if you want!

    • @jamestaylor7489
      @jamestaylor7489 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      A lot of banks have a system where if you have no credit they will approve you for a $3000 loan. So if the bike is 10k then they would require 7000. If its 8k they would want 5000 etc. Go in and put off for a reasonable downpayment but not the complete amount you have. So if you have 5000 in hand then go in and say 4000 down. If the banks come back rejecting that then they will give you a price and you can bounce back with that 5000. It doesn't always work but it's never smart to tell a dealership or bank just how much you actually have on you. Also make sure to consider insurance. Because you will need it to get off the lot.

      All things being equal on an AVERAGE interest rate and an average term length somewhere in the $125-$150 ballpark...but that's a very broad guess because the rates and terms can vary a lot.

    • @AlexSimmons11c
      @AlexSimmons11c  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The repos will hurt as far as a big lender goes, but if you have done a good job of re-establishing your credit since then and shown good payment history on some other loans you should still be able to make something happen, especially with a smaller more local lender, you just may pay high interest

      Do you have a job? If your mom has bad credit, I would NOT add her as a co-applicant. Instead, add her income as "additional household income", by doing that they will not pull her credit file which would hurt your chances even more! So, if YOU don't have a steady income, you WON'T get financed!

    • @AlexSimmons11c
      @AlexSimmons11c  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Unfortunately with motorcycles or any powersports product the credit industry sees it as a "luxury" item, so they want to see at least 1-2 years payment history on some other large financed item before they are willing to take a risk, that means they like to see a year or two payment history on a car loan or similar. So you can have good credit but just not a very long payment history on a large loan, and they still will have a hard time.
      That being said your dealer should have tried harder to get you a loan with a local lender, as those will usually give you a shot with less history as long as you can put some cash down. Maybe try a couple of local credit unions yourself and see what you can do? otherwise you'll need to wait until you have a couple of years major payment history under your belt, or get a good older cosigner.

    • @omarreynaga8799
      @omarreynaga8799 4 ปีที่แล้ว

My question is should I ask my bank first ? Credit unions or just go to the shop and work numbers ? I could afford it but I just don't want to spend more money than I have to buying a mini bike lol

    • @AlexSimmons11c
      @AlexSimmons11c  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi StacheCam! So here is what I would do: (1) Go to the shop of your choice and get the right bike at the right price picked out FIRST (crucial for making sure your financing can be worked out accurately anyway). (2) Then give the shop a chance and see what kind of financing they can get lined up for you because they may have better lenders, and you won't really have to lift a finger or do much leg work that way. If they find you good financing that works for you budget, then you are already on golden street. (3) IF they don't get good financing for you or you don't like the terms they come up with, or it doesn't fit your budget, or if they are asses to you then go to your own bank/credit union with the exact model and VIN on the bike you picked out and see if they can do better on your financing.
      Let me know if you need anything else! You can also run your finance numbers by me when you get them and I'll tell you if you are getting a good deal or not.

    I have a question, so I have a bike in mind that’s around $6500, Equifax calls my score a ‘fair’ credit score, it’s not bad by any means but it isn’t great, more like average. and I don’t have a long credit history. I have about 1200 to put down but I can’t find a co-signer to help me. What are my odds of getting the loan?

    • @TheCraftster1010
      @TheCraftster1010 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I forgot to mention, I had asked a salesman at my dealership and he said that, while I am employed, he doesn’t think I make enough per month to qualify for financing. I make 800 but he’s thinking in the range of 2k per month.

    • @AlexSimmons11c
      @AlexSimmons11c  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ok Tristan, so here are a couple of things just based on what you said! First off the sales person was correct, most lenders will have a minimum monthly income requirement of $1500-2000 depending on lender, so you'll need to get that income up some OR get a good cosigner, which you already mentioned was difficult.
      Second off if you don't have a long history then you may still be able to get financed with your cash down if the dealer (or you yourself) will use a smaller local lender, but most big lenders will want to see a couple of years of payments on another large-item loan before taking the risk. Really this all means you will likely need a cosigner or you'll need to build some more history and get your income up to finance.
      The much better route would be to me patient, save your money, and get a $3-4000 bike or less to get your riding, then get the bike of your dreams later!!!

      It will depend on how long your credit history is, and if you have a long enough history before your current job. If you have good credit and a couple of years of credit history, then you may qualify for a loan regardless. If this is your first job and you don't have a long previous work history or credit history, then a lender will likely want you to have at least 6 months on the job before loaning you money for a bike

      If you dip below about a 550 overall score it starts getting difficult to get approved, but there are still usually local banks and lenders that will give it a shot with a score under that, they will just charge higher interest to make up for the risk they are taking. Hope that helps answer your question!
