    We stay in AirBNB alot, never ever used the dressers, we always hang, and please oh please have 2 night stands, we absolutely hate when we stay somewhere and have to share one! Loving everything so far!

  • @juliewilliams5606
    @juliewilliams5606 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    So this may be an unpopular opinion, but I personally think you do not need any dressers in the room. A queen with two nightstands, a chair, and a small console table (or floating shelf) under the TV would be sufficient. You could even do small floating nightstands if you are worried about space. It would also open up the space so much. You have plenty of storage space in the closet and in the secondary shelf space behind the door. Loving this series and seriously cannot wait to see this room put together! :)

    2 night stands. NO dresser. Closet and existing shelves are more than enough. Dressers are seldom used, except to stack clothes on top. Will only clutter small room. Existing shelving can be made very inviting. Guests dont want their clothes hidden, its a comfort thing.

    We stayed at a really nice air bib recently. And as we looked closely all the wooden furniture was mismatched and upcycled furniture. In a bedroom in air bib I prefer less furniture and places to put our suitcases and a chair or two. We don’t usually unpack. Check your storage units and use some of what you already own. You can still always flip it later

    As I believe I've said before, please reconsider only having one nightstand. People often need to plug in their phones or have a place to put their glasses, etc. on either side of the bed. One nightstand means one person will have to put their stuff on the floor...

    • @julianne089
      @julianne089 2 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      Yes. You can always do a mismatch with a lighter table on the side by the closet.

    • @yknowles163
      @yknowles163 2 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      I agree! You definitely need two bedside tables. They don’t need to be big but they are very necessary. I wear glasses and it is VERY dangerous to put them on the floor. I am blind without them. And you need space to plug in your phone on each side of the bed too. Sometimes people have lamps that you can plug your phone into, that is very nice. I use mine for our alarm. And you need space to put your luggage. This is so fun watching you!!

    • @AutumnStormB
      @AutumnStormB 2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Agreed. I hate staying somewhere and I have to give my husband my glasses and book if I don’t want to put them on the floor (or vise-versa). And then I have to climb over him if I want to get something from the lone table.

      My parents have one of these, so nice to use and they take up very little space when folded! Theirs is wood with woven fabric strips. You could even replace the fabric strips and coordinate them to match your theme! Also, as someone who wears longer skirts/ dresses and long winter coats please leave some long hanging space!

    Here’s a thought. You have lots of closet space. Build bench to put suitcases on in closet. People traveling don’t always unpack but live out their suitcases. Put sofa type table where your were planning to put lowboy chest. Tv would work on table or hang over the table.?

    Loved the blonde set, it would have been perfect unpainted as you said. Most MCM collectors really hate it when those pieces get painted and spend a lot of time undoing it. I look forward to see what you do with the set you did get, but I liked the other one more because I'm a MCM fan lol. As for the shelves in the Bedroom: leave them and use them to put board games, coffee table books and other things guests would use. If you do find a headboard that's a Full you can always attach it to the wall instead of a frame.

    I manage an Airbnb for more than 3 years now, people do hang clothes, but rarely ever use the dressers, so getting just one dresser is smart ! And adding the herring bone design to just the top drawers will look great and still keep it lighter weight too

    • @sherriteare2371
      @sherriteare2371 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I agree. My husband and I use Airbnb‘s all the time, usually for one week stays. Most of our clothing is hung in the closet to get out the wrinkles from being packed. One dresser is definitely plenty to put in socks , underwear, etc. maybe you could use the lowboy out in the living room as an entertainment center to set the TV on. My favorite Airbnb bedrooms have two nightstands one chest of drawers and a chair. I love the blonde set but I would not paint it.

    • @spontaneousun
      @spontaneousun 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I’ll also add I love having long hanging space available for dresses/ skirts/ long winter coats. Would much rather have space to let the wrinkles fall out and keep my socks/ sundries in my suitcase.

    Have you considered attaching something to wall to take place of headboard? I’ve seen flippers get a neat old door and attach to wall then just get queen bed frame. Looks really nice. Also rather than a typical nightstand I’ve also seen them make a box from wood and attach to wall leaving open bottom. That way you could possibly have floating type nightstand on both sides.

    • @sunshineburst4551
      @sunshineburst4551 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yes!!! That's what I was thinking. If they leave the room white and maybe make the headboard with fabric that's the same color they want throughout.

    • @debbydrach
      @debbydrach 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Or make a headboard with the same herring bone as the kitchen, on a small scale and hang it in the wall

    • @gingermonette7455
      @gingermonette7455 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

  • @julianne089

    I was thinking the whole time that the first set mirrored your chevron countertop! It also had great legs. I really like your idea of keeping the wood feature wall in the same color as the room. That can be really dramatic in and of itself. Then it allows you to choose how to bring in your blue green color in other ways. I was also wondering if a tall dresser would fit in that alcove behind the door. Not that you need one there... another thing you can put there is a bench, and it’s a great place to put the suitcase. Maybe add a tall narrow mirror above it... you can also use some of the drawer space of the low boy for extra blankets and pillows...

  • @lauragreen4899

    Also I have to agree with one person who commented on having two nightstands. It always frustrates me when we have stayed somewhere and there's only one night stand. I feel like since this is an air bnb from the furniture flipping teacher that it would be cool to have many of the pieces in it that you’ve refinished, painted or somehow flipped to give it personality as opposed to all matching furniture set like you’d get in a hotel. A little electric would make the space special and stand out from other air bnbs.

    Love how you are planning everything out. One thing to think about, the clearance at the door. Tape on the floor gives a good visual but make sure to think where it would be spatially. All I could think about is getting my suitcase through the door with the corner of the dresser in the way.

  • @honeyoconnor3743

    I like getting air B & B's that have 2 night tables because my husband and I both have Cpap machines, cell phones, hearing aids, and glasses. When we were younger that might not have been a problem. One place had cubes attached to either side of the bed, inexpensive and very functional.

  • @MsMollyson
    @MsMollyson 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Must of your Air B&B guests won’t need lots of drawers as they aren’t staying for extended periods. Also, having the lowboy right next to the door might cause body bruising if folks aren’t attentive.

    The Blond Furniture Set. The headboard (by itself) can use screws and attach it to the wall at any height that you want. I did this and it is great. Please do not paint the Blond Set - love the wood. The Blond Set is quality, and all of the pieces will work in the AirBNB.

      yes, the blond set is awesome and it would be a shame to paint it. It would do her good, to study up on furniture and learn what is quality and what is cheaper and ok to paint over, plus it would help her to know how to negotiate a price on what she is buying

  • @terrirojas
    @terrirojas 2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

    That first set is gorgeous! I would not paint those pieces. Pass on the second set. However, I liked your earlier idea from a previous video of doing a desk and hanging the tv above (also, you don't need a massive tv). How long are you expecting guests to stay? They don't need a full dresser. If you're still wanting to provide drawers, then a tall boy style piece could fit in the shelves area behind the door. Or keep the shelves and do baskets as drawers. It's a tight fit what you measured out. I would also not use the foot board. As someone who grew up with 9'x10' rooms and has stayed very comfortably in AirBNBs, you're going to make it beautiful and comfortable. One thing at a time. We have a king and no box spring. The frame has slats and two sets of legs in the middle of the bed for support. We haven't had an issue in 6 years. We had a spring mattress on it before and now a foam mattress (Nova from Costco) and both worked well without a box spring. It's cheaper (bonus) and lower profile which is nice in a smaller space. Wow! You hit the mirror jackpot in that store!

    Color: headboard and nightstand gainst the accent wall could be the color of the other walls. The dresser could be your accent color, and same for a chair. I'd use the taller narrowe chest because the long one would make it hard walk into the room. Smaller pieces will make the room feel less crowded.

    I think the suggestion to attack something to the wall as the headboard is a great idea. You can cover a piece of mdf with cotton batting and a pretty fabric to pick up the teal paint.

    I would put in less furniture; put in a corner or floating shelf as a night stand (or 2); make a headboard or faux headboard on the wall; and paint the built in shelves the accent color. That will make the small room bigger.

    Since you asked...
    I wouldn't add a dresser.
    I was going to say wrought-iron headboard. Make the accent wall some kind herringbone pattern. My daughter just did a diamond pattern in her room.
    Maybe a small chest in the closet.
    Wall mount the TV.
    A chair in the corner.
    Or do herringbone on the bedside table.
    I'm working on my craft closet and am going to tape it out that's a great idea!

    Excited to see how it comes out! I had the idea of painting the dark wood access door to the bathtub the same as the wall color. That way the door blends in with the wall and doesn't stand out so much and take away from the dresser when you place it on that wall. It will also not be so distracting and possibly enticing for a guest to go mess with it and see what it leads to.

    Your idea with the darker set is amazing. I was thinking the square design looked 'heavy,' and too clunky for the room. But, replacing the square designs with the design from the kitchen could really be fun.
    Remember your bedding choices will add color too or be neutral as you decide going forward.
    Having stayed in several AirBnBs, a dresser is nice, but if I'm just staying for a weekend I work from my suitcase. Good hangers (with & without clips for trousers or skirts are appreciated. No wire hangers please. I vote for 2 nightstands for the main bedroom. A single nightstand works between 2 twin beds. Only one nightstand for the main bed would have me pulling a chair from the kitchen to use.
    Can't wait to see what you create, as always! Hope to come from California & stay at your place sometime!

    I would do neither. Must have 2 night table!!!! Don’t forget mirror matching would be great…. Personally dark set looks like a much cheaper set!
    Thefull headboard is great gives you more room for TWO nigh tables. Full headboard makes way for easier linen changes I would only do 2 bedside tables with glass tops. No worries with water. Keys tossed damage. What I do is mount my headboard securely to wall and use metal bed frame separately

    Just build a box frame for the bed, design your own headboard. No dressers but, look for a luggage stand to place in the closet (like hotels have under the clothes rack.) Instead of a dresser or chest of drawers maybe a cute little bistro set or a really comfy reading chair and a small side table with a few books? The uncluttered look is best and it is peaceful. Be sure a hang room darkening lined drapes or a blackout pull down shade. Many like to sleep in on holidays and vacations. Don't worry about the furniture not matching as long as it's in good shape and the room decor is calming. NO footboards on the bed! They get in the way, take up space and make it more difficult to make the bed. All tips from my son who is a Marriot hotel manager. BTW, the bistro table wood provide a place for a laptop if needed. Wifi access is a must! And if it a room for two, both need bedside tables. They don't have to be regular bedside tables. Small living room end tables that have lower shelves are great! Thrift some smallish lamps for both bedside tables. or even some from a dollar store. Everything in the room should be sturdy and easy to replace if necessary. chose a single color as a jumping off point and style the room from that (even the curtains.) Maybe start with a rug or a piece of art (thrifted is best) and find a color within the pattern or picture. Buy dollar store shears and curtains. Maybe watch some of Sara Richardson's shows on TH-cam. Ana White has some great free and easy furniture designs also!

      I like the dark one and you can use a full headboard with a queen mattress. Mine is that way. You can turn the side rails upside downwith the flat side on top and the box springs lay on top. Or if the headboard are wide enough drill new holes to attach the rails

    Everything is a learning opportunity, you definitely know this as it's sort of been the core value of your whole channel, learning by doing . Teaching :)
    I scanned the comments thus far (300+) there are some really great points I thought I'd do a quick recap for you, and maybe add a couple of my own thoughts.
    1) a very good spend of time would be to take a few hours and do a detailed inventory of your current pieces in your storage, with pictures and measurements. In any business the inventory is your biggest investment, if you think in terms of a retail store they could never run a store without having a detailed list of their inventory, so I highly recommend setting some time aside, maybe trying to enlist some helpers to help with taking measurements, just put them on a sticky note and you and Nieman could take the pictures and just set up a simple excel spreadsheet, enter the measurements right then and there as you move from item to item, add a digital pic and the measurements. A few hours of work to get it done and then take the time to add anything new that comes in immediately so you are always up to date.
    2) I echo the sentiments of several comments below around painting furniture for the Airbnb, while I know this is your thing, this is what started this whole journey, and I know with curing time proper paints and finishes the pieces can be quite durable, in a place where you are potentially going to be moving a lot of people through this room, I'd skip the painting of furniture and stick with the original finishes because they will be more durable in the long run.
    3)Night stands. I think it's been made pretty clear by the comments...two is a must. You might even have something in your inventory that could work :) I think given the vibe of this unit - you could really mix up the pieces and it would look very cool and an eclectic vibe but a well thought out one, if that makes sense.
    3) Dressers - I think most people do not use drawers but do hang up clothes, and if they do use drawers for some of their clothing, a small chest of drawers would fit the bill and also give a surface space for quests to store items like purses, briefcases, cosmetics/ toiletry bag, all the things one would want a flat surface to have these items easily accessible. A smaller chest of drawers with a nice mirror above it (if wall space works out, I forget if there will be a window above where the chest of drawers is mapped out). If you shift your thinking too...the pieces don't have to match...again, you may have something in your inventory that could work :)
    4) Chair and small table beside the chair. I think a chair is a must. A place for clothes after a long tiring day, a place to sit and put on shoes, etc. I would definitely pair down the size of a chest of drawers to free up space for a chair and a small little table to sit right beside the table.
    5) lamps. Ample lighting and having the ability to control lighting with lamps is something many people really appreciate as many adults need a light on, or a few lights on to be able to go to sleep.
    6) headboard. I would try to find a nice simple Queen size headboard, I would steer clear of a padded one, with a fabric covered surface as this will definitely be harder to keep clean. If you , again, think in terms of, it doesn't have to be a set, you may be able to find a really lovely headboard that fits what you were thinking of in terms of simple and not competing with your wall ideas. Queen is a very common size I think you wouldn't have a problem finding just a headboard for a very good price. You can buy the rail system for a basic box spring and mattress set for under $100, and depending on where you buy your mattress and box spring, often you can get a simple rail set thrown in for free if you negotiate a little.
    7) I would invest as much as you can in a very very good quality mattress and box spring. The bed. Is what will make or break a good night's stay. I'm a little heavier, I also have a very bad back, I wouldn't be comfortable on a bed that just had slats and no box spring. When it comes to the bed I'd do a lot of research on what hotels use ( you can actually buy the actual mattresses used in many hotels, hotels started to make their bed (mattress and box spring) available for sale as they constantly were asked " what brand is this mattress, it's the best nights sleep I've ever had".
    (8) I travelled for a living for over a decade, cleanliness, enough towels (good quality) water pressure in the shower, ample number of outlets for charging (must have ONE for each night stand) a very good mattress, extra pillows - same goes for pillows, invest in high quality and high quality covers to control dust mites for the mattress/ box spring and pillows. Invest in good linens for the bed and towels. To me, and I think many travellers, these are the things that make the biggest difference in an excellent stay, vs an ok, or a sub par.
    I would try to save money in areas such as - see if you can make something you already have work for the night stands & chest of drawers. Give yourself a good budget for the best quality you can afford for the mattress, bedding /sheets comforter etc, linens (towels, face cloths etc), pillows.
    One idea is to see what you have in your current inventory that you could use to set up a room and see how it flows, vs buying new and getting it in the space and then realizing, it doesn't really flow the way you thought it might. I know that is a bit of extra work to bring a few things from the storage and set them up, but if it were me, I think I'd try and stage the rooms using what I already have, to just start to get a better feeling for the actual flow once furniture is in the room vs taped out on the floor - which is absolutely a very good first step in designing a room lay out.
    Someone else mentioned getting a tray that folds open that you can put your suitcase on, you should be able to find one of those quite easily on line, I'd get 2. They fold up and are easily stored in the closet and if you have 2 quests each with a suitcase, they will each be able to have their suit case open - this is a huge convienience which travellers will
    l that you made a big effort to think through what really makes a stay extra nice.
    I hope some of these ideas and suggestions help or at least give you some things to think about as you continue on this amazing and super exciting journey together.

    Another good way to deal with a full to queen conversion is to use the side rails (since they are already the same finish) and use them to frame the headboard. Its a pretty simple way to expand the size for a headboard like that one where its essentially just a basic rectangle anyway.

    I like the blonde set !!!! When we bought our first bedroom set we had a full size bed we had too buy some metal brackets to fit a full size bed to a queen headboard we did not have a foot board so it was just a metal frame for that mattress and box springs I think that would also work to turn it in to a queen bed !!!!
