    Brilliant fella. My go-to is always to use the sleeping bag as a duvet. Turn it upside down, stick my feet in and pull it over me, job done.
    Great bit of kit that for sitting round camp enjoying toasted marshmallows and ghost stories ;)

    Interesting concept, thanks for sharing. For a hammock, I would remove all the back insulation to make it lighter and less bulky and then pair it with an under quilt. Otherwise all that insulation is going to get compressed between your body and the hammock, effectively defeating its purpose, so might as well get rid of it altogether and save weight.

    A sleeping bag and a hammock , step into the bag before getting in the hammock. That's something any hammock camper knows after the 1st trip. Myself I like a quilt ( open sleeping bag ) over me and a self inflating mattress ( about 3/4 inflated ) under me. If you want to do it right then get a double bottom hammock and slip the air mattress into the area between the two bottoms , it will stay where you put it.

    • @RobOutdoor
      @RobOutdoor  9 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      I don't disagree with the way you mention about getting into your sleeping bag and I often do that too to be honest, although in this situation the floor in the woods was so muddy so not really an option. . .unless of course one doesn't mind a dirty sleeping bag (not personally for me that)

    Congratulations on the work, but let me make some comments that I think are creative.
    1) An inflatable mattress at the bottom of the hammock works best, as it creates a straighter surface, making it less difficult to use normal sleeping bags.
    2) Regarding the blue sleeping bag, my son said you looked like a character from Roblox, a computer game. In relation to this, I recommended putting elastic bands on the outside of your wrists and wearing gloves in cold weather. Leave the "gloves" of the sleeping bag half open to help with full ventilation. This way, it would be much easier to manage the rest of the sleeping bag if necessary.
    I have a friend who has something similar, Chinese made and, with the modifications I wrote, he has done well. He uses it only in spring or autumn...

    😂😂😂😂 great vid Rob, you getting in the sleeping bag had me in stitches, i honestly dont find it to bad, but i think quilts are the way to go for hammocking. I think the concept is great (i have seen variations of this style) but its a bit heavy and bulky for anything but car camping or on sites.
    Be great if the likes of nature hike extended their down pants into a down suit, that would be a lot lighter and way more packable 👌👍

      Thanks Mick. . You really wouldn't believe I actually filmed me getting in twice, once on my own (which was very difficult to film) then my wife unexpectedly turned up with the dog, so I asked her to film which made it alot easier!
      Totally agree it's a great concept, om in two minds whether to keep it for caravan adventures sat round the fire at night or do a camp in it and take it back 🤫as you say far far to bulky to actually carry on any hike!
      I'd love a quilt, but currently out of my ££ range. Interesting to hear you don't find it too bad to get into a hammock. . . In fact I challenge you @mickoutdoors to make a video showing how you get into a sleeping bag in a hammock 😂👍💪

      I can't afford a quilt either so I've thought a lot about modifying cheap off the shelf gear. My current thinking is a cheap centre zip, mummy sleeping bag. When you unzip it and put it over you it's pretty much the same shape as a top quilt. The Highlander Trekker bags are the only ones I can find in the price range. You get a narrow footbox then of course it flares out wide up at your shoulders. The hood tucks down inside as a draught excluder. I previously put a lot of time into modifying snugpak jungle blankets but tbh I don't think it was worth the effort in the end.

    I got the Selk’bag sleeping bag suit years ago, thought the same thing, that maybe it might be a good alternative for someone who rolls around. But... too heavy for backpacking, the feet are too heavy (the new ones have zip off feet). But... I have worn it around camp in the cold and it is nice and warm and getting up in the middle of the night to pee, you stay mostly warm. Overall, not worth it. I use it as my winter car emergency warmth system up north here. As far as the hammock, I have a Hennessy with a pad insert and I use a quilt on top. Far easier to get in and out of.

    • @RobOutdoor
      @RobOutdoor  11 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Totally agree it's probably not worth it in the long run, it's just as big (albeit alot lighter) than my winter sleeping bag. Totally honest its the 1st I've actually seen of this type of system but they seem to have been around for a while! Think I'll probably do a camp in it just to say I have. I really must be missing something, alot of people use a pad in their hammock, but although I've never tried it, I don't actually like the thought of it. . Maybe I am missing something 🤔

    Idk why every thing has such small hoods these days? Jackets too. Really strange making them useless

      I know right! I was really confused until I watched the footage back, either I've got a massive head or that hood is non existent 🤣🤣

    where is camera man stan these days? And it looks a good idea lots of zips incase it’s hot , better than all the struggle with a sleeping bag. I also think your new assistant camera lady, should try a wild camp..😂

      It's a great idea and ideal for the hammock. .. just not so practical for carrying around it's huge!
      Cameraman Stan. . He's given up I think 😔. . Although I'm definitely getting camera lady K8 out for a camp
