India’s First Water Metro| Kochi Water Metro| ഇന്ത്യയിലെ ആദ്യത്തെ വാട്ടർ മെട്രോ🛥️

Kochi Water Metro Project 🛥️ intends to introduce modern, energy efficient, environment friendly and safe boats with low wake and draft characteristics at a high frequency to increase ridership. Kochi became India’s First City to have a Water Metro Project🤩. This project envisages the development of 15 identified routes, connecting 10 islands🏝️ along a network of routes. Prime Minister Narendra Modi flagged off the first phase of metro in Kochi on April 25 th 2023. Currently it runs on two routes: High Court-Vypin and Vyttila-Kakkanad. The automatic passenger control system, which can limit the number of passengers inside the boat based on its capacity, is another notable feature. There are also other safety measures taken such as life jackets, fire alarm, emergency buttons and exits. The glass window are so wide that you can enjoy the backwaters.😍
The boats🛥️ are designed to minimise noise and wave effects that can erode banks and have an impact on the flora and fauna that inhabit the rivers.There are 78 eco-friendly boats for passenger service 23 of them are 100 people and the remaining 55 are meant for 50 passengers. The battery-powered (LTO) electric boats being manufactured by Cochin Shipyard Limited. In addition to these passenger boats, there are four numbers of Rescue cum Workshop vessels for supporting the main fleet in case of emergency and maintenance. The floating pontoons are provided to cater the tidal variations. It is facilitate embarkation and disembarkation of physically challenged commuters. Each ride takes about 20 minutes to reach the destination.

Quarterly: Rs. 1500/-

The project is expected to reduce the pollution and traffic congestions in the city and also ease access to business areas on the mainland for urban households situated along the Kochi lakeshore. This project is poised to tap and enhance Kerala’s tourism potential by improving connectivity between islands, backwaters and mainland.
