    Did this on my 432 instructors course. Swimming in a 432 was a 2 pairs of underpants job! Driving it was at least 5 pairs!

      I bet you had to give it full right hand stick as the weight pulls you to the left in the tank of water.

    I never knew about the 437, fascinating!

    This looks cool but now picture an assault crossing under fire. Lots of holes in those flotation devices

      Why would you do that under fire?

    I spent a month on the river in the 70’s, missed out on 2 weeks in Denmark because we had a few sink and had to get the divers to put a winch rope on it so we could drag them out. We had a good time there

    I have taken a FV432 swimming in a water trough in Borden.

    "Driver, don't worry if we sink, I can bail out of the vehicle pretty easily"

      Driving the Ferret or 432 would be bad enough, but i certainly wouldn't drive the Centurion!

    Never seen an FV421 except as a photo nor a FV 437 Pathfinder under power, we had one (looks a little different to the one in the film) at Old Park Bks in Dover with a mock up of a Ranger on the roof, when Old Park Bks closed it was moved to the RE Museum in Brompton Bks - looked very much the worse for wear, got a couple of pics of it.

    Where did you find these films? There's one about the Stalwart which is being rather elusive

      Hi Mark, I was given them. I'm always looking around for videos of the Ferret, so if you give me some details i'll keep an eye out for you on my travels!

      @@daimlerferretscoutcar There's two colour films that I'm keen to see again. I've already contacted SKC-SSVC, but they don't have them.
      One is a recruitment film, and stars Richard O'Sullivan (He of Man about the house, Robin's nest tv series) playing the part of an RAF Liaison officer - riding around in a 432 in the woods with Battle group HQ.
      The other is a recruitment film (Shown to us in Army cadets) about supporting the front line (think it's RCT, REME, etc) and includes footage of a Stalwart towing a broken down Centurion tank along a gravel track with narration about the Stalwart being designed to support MBTs.

    How do you Recce a river bed?

    • @koitorob
      @koitorob 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think you just follow the vehicle in front...

      That's what the RE diving team are for (part of their role). I spent 3 years at Hameln with 28 Amphibious Engineer Regiment, and was part of the diving team there. Most of the recce's were for the rigs (M2B/M2D), which had soft aluminium hulls.
