I had a Land Rover before the Ferret, I did a lot of work to it to make it look like a deep penetration vehicle, it was fun to drive but the Ferret really has the edge, it is not as fast, and it costs a lot more on fuel but it is FUN to drive .
I just got back from a military exercise at Swynnerton training camp. And I saw one of these rusting away, an amphibious version at that. This video showed me that at least some people car about these great vehicles.
Great vdeo brings back fond memories of the time I owned 2 ferrets, and drove them round Larne,Ballycarry etc. I have all the manuals for them if you ever need them. Happy driving :)
Brilliant video and a fine example of a decent FSC. Hat doffed to you for all the hard work in getting another piece of our history back to working order.
Hi, Tam, Good to see your latest project up & running so well, the motor and transmission both sound very healthy. Great hear your dulcet tones again, seems a long time since you & I both flew our hang-gliders. Whitehead appears to be as quiet (and peaceful) as I recall, from many years ago ! I've posted a few vids. myself, (mostly paragliding) ,,,,,,, under the moniker; parapensioner2 you might recognise a few of the locations from the past........ Robin Young's , Benbradagh , Magilligan etc. best wishes, Martin B.
I come back on occasion and view this vid. Great nostalgia. I was Ferret Section Commander in Berlin 77 (four ferrets). Great times, great sound, great RR purring/screaming in the background. How do you keep it secure short of taking the battery out?
I have sold the old girl on as I was getting too old and sore to get in and out of it, but it was fun while it lasted. As for security I just parked it at the side of the house and nobody bothered it :-)
Older vid but I enjoyed the sight seeing tour. I also got a bit of a driving lesson out of it. Being a Yank, I was keenly interested in how you Brits make a right hand turn. ;) I wonder if that area has been built up or remained the same over the years since this vid? I have to crank and drive a FSC which has sat, uncranked, outdoors for about a year +/-. Fingers crossed. It belongs to a neighbor who purchased it at an estate sale and he has no idea of how to start it. I volunteered to set him right. I've drawn out an illustrated instructional sheet for him and I'll start it the first time or two to show him before he goes hands on with it.
@@FATTAM007 It's nice that large hotel chains and retail parks have not ruined the charm of your water front area. I remember a time when our Hilton Head Island was a charming place... Before hotels popped up along the water's edge and destroyed the view of the ocean.
@@FATTAM007 I must say, your paint job looks amazing in this video. Thanks for sharing. My neighbor's Ferret is in dire need of fresh paint. The weather has dulled the finish. I'm trying to convince him to spend a little money to repaint it and restore the tools (pick axe is missing the handle and the smoke tubes need new boot covers).
I am having a Ferret mechanically restored at the moment and its going to live outside. Some Ferret guys were saying "oh it's going to ruin it!" Did you do anything special to keep it from filling with water when it rains? I understand the hatches aren't water tight.
I never did anything special to make it watertight and here in Ireland we do tend to get a little bit of rain now and again. I had no problems with any water getting in, if I had I would have simply put a tarpaulin over it.
@@FATTAM007 Thanks! It seemed like some weatherstripping and a tarp would do it. Hope you’re still enjoying yours. You can see he progress on mine at REME depot’s TH-cam channel. I can’t wait!
@@ramblingadventures Good luck with the project, I know you will have a lot of fun driving it. I had to sell mine as ill health meant I was unable to get in and out of it any more. In my next life I will buy one a lot earlier LoL :-)

if you google you will find several places in the US that have them in stock or can get one and even restore it. some you can even with the approiate paperwork and taxes to Uncle Sam have the guns and cannons be made to function. full auto is a bit dicey but semi auto and or destructive device is very doable to own in most of the US.

I understand this is an old video but you and that vehicle are BADASS
I keep coming back to this video just for a listen, if you have driven, or commanded them regularly then you'll understand what I mean.

Thanks for the video. I'm currently looking to buy a Ferret over here in Canada.
Looks very clean. My dad thought of getting one about 10 years ago, but decided on a Russian UAZ-69 jeep. The Ferret looks more fun

+Martin Bates Hi Martin, I will have a look at your vids, I would really like to get back in the air but just too fat now LoL :-)
Hello you Mad Scotsman, I see your looking after My old Girl. Jon
That looks and sounds fantastic, I have never driven one of these but used to drive a Saracen. One day I I would love to own a Ferret though.
Real beauty sir!
How much did this cost you to purchase, assuming its a mk2 ferret 🤔🤔
i PAID £5.000 many years ago, but as I have gotten older and fatter I couldn't get into or out of it easily so I sold it.

Still the same old town here in Sunny Whitehead

Truly a great truck...not comfortable to live in to be honest, but it did the job.
As they say boys and they toys and believe me I wouldn’t say no for one 😂😂😂😂

Great! For how much money did you sold it?
Not enough my friend LoL
rolls design but they only made a small run of engines around 98% where built by austin!
I have to ask, how much room is in the drivers seat? I'm pretty tall but super interested in buying one of these!
My only problem with it and the reason I eventually sold it is my mobility is not the best and I was near 19 stone, otherwise go for it my friend :-)
Kick ass I love it.
I would weart at leat a soft helmet :D
Not so much a helmet, but watch your fingers. They are not called Ferret for nothing LoL :-)
Nice
Where could I buy one of these?

u hv got to b very carefull when driving a 60-70 years old vehicle. the braking system is not very efficient by today's standard.
