- Derek Sivers is a musician, producer, circus performer, entrepreneur, TED speaker, and book publisher. He's written four books including How To Live, Hell Yeah Or No, Your Music And People, and Anything You Want.
He's also the founder of CD Baby - the largest seller of independent music online, with $100 million in sales for 150,000 musicians. In 2007, Derek sold that business for $22 million - almost all of which Derek donated to a charitable trust for music education.
In this episode, we talk about how Derek keeps himself focused on ONE project at a time, how to navigate conflicting philosophies, what we can learn from professional musicians, and how creators can pursue balance in our lives.

My big take away here is that it is OK that I have 100 ideas queued up but I'm only able to work on 1-2 of them at the same time. I find that prioritising time to spend on my ideas is the hardest thing because I'd love to do them all 🤩 I'm a born again Monomaniac after watching this; guilt free (the other 99 future possible ideas can wait).
I definitely relate. Born-again monomaniac…I love it!
I discovered Derik years ago. Bought his first book "Anything you want". Then this summer I bought "How to live" and already read it three times. Yes, you are right "Philosophy for creatives"
derek is so good. he is one of those floating wizard types who live outside of space and time.
I just subscribed coming from Kopy Kourse
And now seeing you with one of those I consider "Modern Philosopher"
This channel is becoming one of my favorites
Oh heck yes, John! Glad you found your way here!
Dialed in!
Nice
Great interview of a great guest Jay! 🙌
Thank you sir!
I’m going to watch this video every month to anchor my aspirations and to prevent me from trying to do a million things at the same time. Fantastic interview Jay.
Would love to know about your editing process for this video as it is phenomenal. I’ve never seen such a well edited video podcast.
I love it! Thanks Parvaz!
Banger of an episode Jay!

I love Derek!!!
he’s great!
@@CreatorScienceYT every time I listen to him, I just smile and feel great... he's such a legend!! Lives in my country now too I think (NZ)
I've been subscribed for a few weeks now, honestly love the content!
That makes me so happy to read!
I've had such a hard time with this later in life, and I finally got diagnosed with ADHD. Now everything makes so much sense. Finally have been able to get beneficial treatment, and my brain is starting to get back to understanding that time is there!
Great job! Love the interview, new fan here. May I ask you what software you use for record the video? The quality is great

When I grow up I want to be Derek Sivers
same
I love this metaphor "Possible Futures". I have the same desire to see what ideas & projects I can do in the future.
As a builder, that is why I created the tool called SparkLand to get my creative flow influxed, transformed, and balanced.
I am hoping through observation, reflection, playing, and performing, real ideas can be born.
I loved the Possible Futures idea.
Top👌👏👏👏👏👏
I read his book How To Live and was confused with some contradictions. He says to have a home and then says never have a home. He also comments that he likes the book SUM in this interview because it's not about life being a problem to be solved, but yet I thought Derek's philosophy is that you create a business around a problem that needs to be solved. ????? Or maybe I misunderstood.
OH
I-O!
