Sick video Man! I have an ex and want to get back into mtb, but the car roof racks are dumb expensive. Great explanation. Ordered mine. Hopefully it’s a smooth install like this
I was so hooked on this video because of how easy it was to follow that I totally forgot I had a sport model until you mentioned it at the end. My eyes went wide and I said...damn it! Hahaha. Great video nonetheless.
I have the same hitch and I didn't need to trim or hammer the ends of the bumper beam for the hatchback.. The bumper cover cleared it. I believe you need to trim the bumper beam if you have the sedan because the bumper cover has a different shape.
The beam does have shape corners. The manual probably states this as a safety measure just in case the bumper cover has any contact, but definitely no need to cut off any metal. If anything, a quick few taps on the corners to take out the sharp edges would be good 👍🏽
It may seem daunting, but the small cut is on the very underside of the bottom of the bumper housing, which won’t affect things and won’t be visible. The hammering only softens the sharp corners and is better than the directions to cut metal from the bumper beam. Lmk if you have any questions!
Hi, the 10th Gen LX and EX models have dual exhausts that are located on the sides like this one. Sport, SI, Type R have the center-mounted exhaust. Hope this helps!
I have a 2015 sport civic diesel in the UK , cant seem to find anything about a hitch setup for that, I have 2 ebikes total of around 60 kilos, too heavy to lift for a roof rack. I also have a dog so would need access to the boot.... any ideas? Thanks.
Unfortunately, this won't work, as the hitch would be inline with the center exhaust. I'm sure someone out there has cut and welded one of these to move it out of the way though lol
I have 2018 Honda Civic hatchback exactly same shape and color. Yesterday I have installed the same hitch and today I noticed both sides on the fascia has little bumps, either this is from factory and I did not notice it before or this is after installation. I did not cut the corner pieces from the metal pumper beam. I did kind of the same thing like you said to tap the area in with hammer. if it is due to installation do you think I should cut away those pieces from both sides. Please advise. Thanks
Yes, that’s too bad. I badly wanted to get the sport touring model, but settled for EX due to none in stock at the time. Glad I went this route lol! Hope they come up with a center exhaust solution!
I'm looking at getting a hitch installed on my 2017 Civic sedan, and have the option of this one, as well as a model from Curt that sits somewhat lower. That installation doesn't involve removing the rear fascia, but does require 4 holes drilled into the frame rails. Is the model that you're showing here the best way to go, in your opinion?
Yes, I'd recommend going this route, as you do not need to drill into the car's structure. It also is higher up, and won't get in the way of ground clearance.
@@preludedriven How high up from the ground is the top of the hitch opening on this model? I have a Kuat NV 2.0 rack and am worried that when folded up it will cover the backup camera if this sits too high whereas the Curt model might not.
Hmm I don't think so; these hitches state that they are not compatible with the center exhausts. I got lucky since I actually went to the dealership to get a Sport Touring model, but settled for the EX :)
This was a helpful video, thanks!! I did have two things different with my 2018 Civic hatchback than the video. One, there was only 2 screws at the wheel wells. I checked three times, and only two screws. No problem. The second was a problem. The factory assembly aid hook (th-cam.com/video/7FgFauQkIqM/w-d-xo.html) that holds the bumper on prevented me from installing the hitch. Once I bent that back into the body area, it went together no problem.
I just added my hitch with the help of your instructions, and it worked great. Thanks for the video!
That's awesome to hear! Thank you!!!

Awesome! Yah, it's been great and I get people asking me about it all the time :)

Literally here to comment this right now 😂 same struggles 3 years later
Thanks for the video! Very helpful tip about hammering the metal rather than cutting out the piece - that seems like a better solution to me too.
Right? Cutting away metal of a bumper beam does not sound safe to me lol!
Bauss level. Yes, very accurate. Thank you for sharing!
Awesome! TY!!
Hey are you still able to open up the hatch with your bike rack on? Thanks for the great video btw.

Title is wrong, you meant "hatchback" not "sport" since the sport hatchback models have a center exhaust and need a mod to install.
Good point, the name of the hitch is “Sport Hitch” so that is confusing. Will retitle the video. Thanks!
I've been wanting to do this, but I am not comfortable cutting and hammering into my touring 😢

Precision job man!! Thanks for sharing!
Much appreciated! This hitch (and rack) have been awesome and I always get asked about it at the trail :)
You didn't need to unscrew your taillights to pull off the bumper
True, totally optional, but it does provide extra spacing while removing and reinstalling the bumper 👍🏽
That was cool! Thanks for sharing the install!
No problem 👍. Did you pick up one of these hitches?
Looks sick! I'm sad that my exhaust is in the middle 😢
The center exhaust is amazing, and I hope someone designs a hitch around it!
That’s awesome! I’m curious if this hitch would fit my 22 Civic Hatchback
I was wondering that myself, actually! Lmk if u find out!
Thank you for making this!
You're welcome!
Link for the items you used? Great video
Sorry for the late reply, but I've added links in the description! Let me know if you have any questions!
Man I’d like to do this but having the sport hatch I have center exhaust. I just don’t see this fitting at all for center exhaust
I also bought my civic at Norm Reeves man
Awesome bro...I've been a Norm Reeves customer for a long time!
I thought the 10th gen had the exhaust in the middle? All these videos have the exhaust in the side.
Hi, the 10th Gen LX and EX models have dual exhausts that are located on the sides like this one. Sport, SI, Type R have the center-mounted exhaust. Hope this helps!
Superb Video
Thank you!!!
Curious if this would fit a 2016 ex sedan civic 🤔. Anyone know?!
I do have a friend with a 2017 EX sedan with this installed and it went on perfectly. The 2016 EX sedan should be the same scenario 👍🏽
@@preludedriven I took a gamble and bought it and it works perfectly! 👌🏾
Do you think theyre steon enought hitch for 100 pound bike?
Yes, this hitch is rated up to 200 lbs. tongue weight, just make sure you have a really good bike rack.
Thanks!!! Could you tell that the reinstalled cross bar was not touching the bumper?
Yes, I can physically push in the bumper in the two areas of concern, and feel that there is adequate spacing. Thanks.
@@preludedriven Thanks.
I have the center exhaust. I can't use this, damn.
Yah, that's too bad :(. Hopefully one day they will design a hitch that does not block the center exhaust!

nice video bro! Have you had any issues come up with hammering the metal in?
I’ve had zero issues with it, and highly recommend this process and hitch!
Outstanding video!
Thank you very much!
What if I have a sports with center exhaust 😳
Unfortunately, this won't work, as the hitch would be inline with the center exhaust. I'm sure someone out there has cut and welded one of these to move it out of the way though lol
Will this work for a 2019 Honda Civic hatchback?
EX Model
Yes it does. Those with the LX and EX with the dual outer exhausts can use the hitch! Thanks.
How has this held up? Any issues? Do you only usually have one bike on there?
It's held up perfectly. Actually, I have two bikes on the rack more often than just my own. Again, it's been great and I haven't had any issues.
I have 2018 Honda Civic hatchback exactly same shape and color.

Hmmm, I have not experienced that. Perhaps you might need to tap the metal beam a bit more, or yes cut away the material noted in the manual.
Can't do anything with the center exhaust I have :((((
Yes, that’s too bad. I badly wanted to get the sport touring model, but settled for EX due to none in stock at the time. Glad I went this route lol! Hope they come up with a center exhaust solution!
Does it work on the coupe?
Yes it does, as long as you do not have the center mounted exhast.
Amazing!
Awesome video man. I have a Honda civid 2016. Will this Hitch work? Also the amazon link is not availble anymore. Do you know where I can get one?
How much can it tow
Is it possible to put a hitch on the Sport models?
Not without any mods. I did read on the forums of someone doing some welding to this rack, to extend it to not touch the exhaust....
@@preludedriven damn it. Thanks for the reply..

Is this an OEM hitch ? Tia
No, it is made by Reese...not sure if Honda actually makes one for this car.
What bike rack is that?
It's the Reese Towpower 77336
What brand of hitch is it?
This is a Reese Hitch
Does it fit for 2019 Honda hatchback
Wonder if it fits fk8 lol
hehe, I'm sure with some modding, you can position it away from the center exhausts 😈

Interesting....perhaps it's due to the added Honda mud flaps? ...unless your hatchback also has mud flaps.
@@preludedriven no extra mud flaps, its the LX model, but I would think the body would be the same on all models. No biggie!
god bless u
Thank you and to you as well!
Roof rack it is. Deforming crash structure and cutting bodywork is too sketch for me.
