@@detectiveghost8856 Yeah. Kinda tracks between the two when you think about it. Dante fights, in large part, because he feels it is his job as a Son of Sparda. Since Nero is there, that duty can be passed on. Vergil, although he's consistently failed at it, has always wanted to gain power so he could protect those he cares about. He now knows he has a son, and he refuses to acknowledge the chance that he might be unable to, even after gaining so much strength, return to protect that son. He refuses to accept he might share a fate with his father in that respect.

His mother unintentionally neglected him, and his brother seemed to forgo his past and family tie for long, yet he still blamed himself for not being able to save them and still kept trying to protect and mentor his brother. Bluntly speaking, if he didn't let his caring for Dante get in his way, he would have been the one to win and he would have Dante's life. Ironically, Dante is always such a good and generous person towards most people but he was unleashed and would give his all when fighting his own brother. I guess that's the curse on Sparda's family, and part of the reason why both DMC3 and DMC5 only left one Sparda heir in the human world, it's to protect the remaining one from fighting his own family.

I love the lyrics of the... arguably best part of the song. Its screaming at you even on the title. It pretty much literally can’t be more ago it Vergil…. DMC 5 used his initial as his logo, had him as the TWO main antagonists, one of the 3 original playable characters, the other 2 being his brother and son, and then unlocked him in the definitive edition so he was now 2 of the 4 playable characters. He is also the main component of LITERALLY every story element, even the flashbacks. It’s hard to think of any game that ever revolved more around one charger than DMC 5 did around Vergil…
Listening to Bury The Light by itself, to me, it reflects Vergil's history, his tragedies, suffering, but also determination and triumphs. But listening with this masterfully done video, it reframes the song as some sort of redemption and rehumanises Vergil through using images of Dante, Nero and V to coincide with the lyrics. In the end, Vergil can be resorted to a good man through his family. Keep up the good work! I can't wait for your Take on Devils Never Cry!!
Also would like to note that this seems to have healed Dante as well, seeing as he genuinely smiles when sword locking with Vergil. Could also just Dante being Dante, but I don't remember ever seeing Dante get so happy from just a sword lock.
@@pendragon5744 It’s because Dante and Vergil only get excited when they fight each other because only they can compete with each other, but he smiles now knowing that they aren’t fighting to kill each other anymore, but still have that friendly rivalry between them.
The fact that by the end of dmc 5 Vergil embraces all his weaknesses along with his strengths and becomes his true self is just the best story arcs I have ever witnessed
@@josukehigashikata1494 Not just that he blamed himself for the loss of his mother and after DMC4SE, I'd bet money part of the reason he was desperate for power in 3 is that he fell in love with a fragile human and didn't want to repeat his childhood knowing the curse of being a son of sparda (that it attracts danger). Partly of their positions being switched, I think Vergil also menas if Dante was the older brother. After Sparda did whatever he did (I always assumed he poured all of his power into the Devil Sword Sparda, Yamato, and rebellion and then just ceased to exist, but honestly Idk), Vergil as the oldest was the "man of the house" and he was stronger than Dante and Eva was just human. IIRC in the manga when their home was attacked Vergil didn't blame his mom or Dante, he just assumed both had died because he saw the house burning and surrounded by demons. He himself only barely survived by instinctively summoning the Yamato (which is still like the most broken weapon in DMC). From his perspective he failed his family because he was weak and I think in DMC 3 he felt that again (or that he couldn't do right by whomever is Nero's mom) by not gaining more power as lamented by losing to his little brother whom he was supposed to protect. Then he felt it again losing to Mundus his family's greatest enemy and even more so having lived through the nightmare of becoming Mundus' tortured slave. Then he was once again saved by his little brother. In DMC 5 he was barely clinging to life and dealing with PTSD and just desperate for something. He split himself into ultimately two halves that were empty without each other and didn't really exist again the end of the game. Thankfully that gave him a new perspective on life and he was pretty humbled afterward. Unfortunately him and Dante still had their dicking around to do.
Kyrie is such an underrated character. I really hope we get more if her in a novel or manga or something. I know Itsuno has Dragon's Dogma II next but really hope she at least appears in Devil May Cry 6
something i never realized, and is very cool and shocking to know right now is that on 2:26 when urizen removes the red crystal thingy, you can see the yamato as it fades away in the crystal pretty darn cool
At 4:13, I see what you did there with Dante mentioning Vergil's humanity only to cut to V right after. Other than that, this is an amazing video. Love the font of the lyrics especially!
Sadwich I did the same thing with my videos as well, listening to the music over and over to put scenes that fit perfectly with the lyrics! This song has been stuck on my head for a week and a half already. Lmao
@@Emer4ld_6 the demons V uses are born from Vergil's nightmares, he made them a part of him and use them to fight. also at that moment he's calling the one precisely called Nightmare
Let's find that one mundus worshipper who have disliked this video Edit : Holy hell they are planing to make a cult we must stop them ourselves for the twins dwell underneath for now
legit tho, while hype, this is VERY sad. Its like he's slowly breaking down as he goes on, eventually thinking he has to "bury the light" and that he's all alone.
And his eyes are always full of sorrow. Tho, since the light was only buried and not extinguished, when the time is right, it will shine from his heart, and it did at the end of DMC5.
True point. If Vergil kept the memories of both V and Urizen(which seems to be the case, since he reflects on the past Dante brought up as Urizen) he does indeed seem effected. Not only that, but he sounds almost tired when he says "lets settle this.. Dante" emotionally at least. Like he has nothing left but his duel with his brother. And of course, "bury the light" is practically the reverse(or is it inverse?) of "embrace the darkness within me" in his Son Neros theme. You can even see how Dante and Vergil sorta oddly act in similar contrast when they clash. Dante gets more serious than against any other, meanwhile Vergil gets.. quippy, almost playful and even trades banter with Dante.
@@25shadow11 Others may not agree, I personally think Vergil is a pacifist and still tries to reject the violent life he was forced into, that's why his light and dark sides don't mix well. He doesn't want to give up or 'pollute' his pure side, and tries to shield it with a cold and hard shell, but he lacks the "roughness" to actually carry this out. It's like a tender person donning a metal armor all naked without padding, which would for sure to hurt the wearer's tender flesh and weaken the armor's function as well. The other guys are ok with being "gray" and blending into the grimy world they are born into, but Vergil is not. He still wants to keep his white from his black, and still tries to preserve rather than to make use of his human side, which became his undoing at every critical moment until having lived as V and Urizen. Urizen, needless to say, but V is also far less innocent despite his tamer appearance. The irony is, doing some selfish and treacherous things actually yielded a more desirable outcome for him, and that's the "true humanity" he had learned in the end. In Blake's Earth's Answer, neither human nor God (demons in their world) are kind or noble. Humans corrupt and sicken her. God chains her up and tortures her. The DMC world might be exactly that, with Vergil taking on the role of the Earth.
@@CureMiracle but he still activated the Temen ni gru which caused much damage and greater than likely killed many people. And him picking a fight with his younger brother. When they first reunited, Dante was so happy to see him, but Vergil came swinging.
@@25shadow11 With regard to damaging the human world, bluntly speaking, if we stand as an unbiased observer, it's hard to side either side. In their world, both humans and demons brutalize each other. Demons attack and kill humans as if they were ants, but humans also shoot them, kill them, mutilate them and use their body parts for wall decoration. We only see the story from one side, and even from this one side we see human brutality and human traitors who used demons as a tool. Sanctus lured demons into the human world and then killed them to establish his own savior status. Seriously? Demon life is only an expendable tool to you? If we had a chance to explore the story from both sides, we may actually reveal a bigger picture of what was going on. And it's unclear if full humans invade the Underworld or not. Half humans already did. Dante and Vergil are half human. They count as intruders. I'd think it highly possible that both sides have vilified each other and both are hunting down each other. Nico mentioned DNA analysis, that means demons in their world, after all, are also carbon-based life. The two worlds don't even have language barrier and reproductive barrier. Demons may be really just a race with super powers. They have a relatively primitive social structure and seemingly small population, but nonetheless they are just a life form like humans are, and they might just be misled into believing humans are all evil. How many times in human history have we vilified and dehumanized each other? Countless. The Medieval witch hunt, genocide on the indigenous, slave trade, just to name a few. In their human world, being called a demon is like being called a witch in the Medieval time, which would attract discrimination at best and most likely brutal persecution without a trial and sentence. Is that any different than demons killing humans? I'd say no. Trish must have been concealing her demon origin to survive. Though, she was already banished from the Underworld. She had no choice but to live in the human world any ways. But are demons all evil and deserve such treatment? At least there is a counter-example. Trish is a full demon, but she is kinder than not just any hybrids but also any humans in their world. Knowing the whole truth, she still saved V and still shielded him by keeping the truth from Dante, although it's unclear if they were already friends when they both served Mundus. The old man who gave Vergil his book witnessed the attack on their home and investigated the matter. So Mundus' minions didn't harm those bystanders and witnesses despite their capability to do so. Even real-world human criminals are extremely unlikely to spare any witnesses shall they be able to kill or silence them. Comparing their world's demons to real-world criminals, they are just too honest and too honorable IMHO.
Of all the BTL videos I've seen, this one truly has topped it, and it's just the plain music with no remixing. The buildup for the title drop at 7:30 was a legitimate *masterpiece.*

I've never once wanted to cry during Bury The Light but this video makes the whole story of not only game but the story so much more emotional. You did an awesome job at this and the dialogue added in only makes this so much better.
I have never played DMC even once, then I accidentally clicked on a YT recommendation which is a video showing patrick holding a katana with thunderstorm background with an epic music, then afterwards YT decided to fill my YT's homepage with Vergil and his memes, soon after his theme, and then this video. And this video gave me a clear view of how DMC universe goes while putting the best motivational music I have ever knew, without playing the game. Thank you, also gotta thanks YT for this whole enlightenment journey.
God the synchronization between your choice of cutscenes and the lyrics are superb! If this didn't have spoilers for the game, I could legit see this being just a 9.5 minute long commercial for the game itself honestly.
I didn't realize lyrics were so intertwined with story. As in, I'm playing game the 2nd time now I realize how much dialogue points on things we learn in later missions, but still, I guess there's a reason this and MGR have greatest videogame music.
@ㅤㅤ Imagine the basic plot with Mundus capturing and dominating Nero, he will serve as the recurrent boss just like his daddy used to be in the original. Then, divide the story between the human world and demon world, you play as Trish and Lady in the human world, the Sparda Brothers in hell, together (with special interactions, of course) or separate depending on the level, then a Vergil duel with Mundus at the very end to settle the score, reaffirming the Shonen anti-hero redemption, he got that strong because he was protecting his son and avenging his mother, the end, greatest action game ever made
@@RRRRRRRRR33 Please replace Nero's role with Trish and Lady's, setting Nero up as the main character of the human world, just for him to end up captured in the demon world is just stupid, hell, I'll take Kyrie getting captured again over that.
@@nathanevans1382 Well, by doing that you lose the “recurrent enemy/anime rival” archetype that is present in virtually every DmC game. With the brothers as the protagonists from the start, who else can play this role? I mentioned Trish and Lady because I liked both characters and they are severely underused (especially Lady), so if you have dual mechanics both in Hell and on Earth, the gameplay sustains itself through the end. Another cliche: if Nero is possessed you give another motivation (no pun intended) for Vergil’s redemption, avenging his mother + saving his son, the edgelord becomes a redeemed antihero and blablabla They can even make Vergil getting a “NEED MORE POWER!!” relapse at the end because Hell has no ruler and he gets tempted to take over Mundus role, etc And lastly, Capcom can later sell the infamous “special edition” with playable Nero. Even if I despise Nero as a character (he has zero charisma imo, the brothers and the ladies are more than enough to carry this franchise)… still, his gameplay is pretty dope, to have this gameplay back in a “special edition” is something valid even for a nonfan like myself, depending on how they would mix normal Nero with possessed Nero, that has potential to be decent (not as cool as Vergil, obviously, but a decent substitute)
@@RRRRRRRRR33 Ah, you hate Nero, that explains why you don't want him playable, well if that ever happens, Nero would be playable at first and Lady and Trish would be a part of the Special Edition, most people like Nero and DMC 5 100% set him up as the main character, also, Nero doesn't have to be unplayable for a scenario where Vergil has to save him to happen, Dante saved Nero a few times in DMC 4 and 5, Vergil can do the same. Lastly, I'm not gonna say much about your "I despise Nero as a character" comment, but I will say I do not agree in the slightest, Nero is awesome and that is reflected in his character and gameplay.

“I am the storm that is approaching” Once I heard that I instantly thought back to dmc3 when Arkham informs Vergil “there is a storm approaching” as a metaphor to say that Dante is coming to stop Vergil, and in dmc5 Vergil is the storm approaching because his goal is to finally beat Dante
I would’ve expected the Bury the Light part to be an epic fight, but THAT SCENE was the best choice especially with Kyrie’s advice to Nero. God this is the most beautiful and best AMV of Bury the Light

He was never evil to begin with, he lived life thinking he was alone and had to depend on himself (the reason why he cares about power so much)
Also would like to note that this seems to have healed Dante as well, seeing as he genuinely smiles when sword locking with Vergil.
Now I have more understanding of vergil, you can feel his sadness
Respect vergil

At 4:13, I see what you did there with Dante mentioning Vergil's humanity only to cut to V right after.
Other than that, this is an amazing video. Love the font of the lyrics especially!
Thanks! I really love it when people notices that kind of things
Sadwich I did the same thing with my videos as well, listening to the music over and over to put scenes that fit perfectly with the lyrics!
This song has been stuck on my head for a week and a half already. Lmao
It is the truth though... V is literally Vergil's humanity. Nice job!
My jaw just literally hit the ground after reading this comment.
7:58 is my favorite part. The motivation and chills when Nero's devil trigger comes to life!

Not in my opinion

@@sayonikagd ardido eh?
legit tho, while hype, this is VERY sad.

The brothers are now united
Mundus has left the chat...
DMC6 has to be about their revenge (with Vergil as the main character)
"The puppet master congregates all the masses" *shows V*

“I am the storm that is approaching”
Once I heard that I instantly thought back to dmc3 when Arkham informs Vergil “there is a storm approaching” as a metaphor to say that Dante is coming to stop Vergil, and in dmc5 Vergil is the storm approaching because his goal is to finally beat Dante
I would’ve expected the Bury the Light part to be an epic fight, but THAT SCENE was the best choice especially with Kyrie’s advice to Nero. God this is the most beautiful and best AMV of Bury the Light
