Pierre Boudieu: Key Concepts edited by Michael Grenfell is a good introduction to Bourdieu's concepts as well...I'm using this video in my class today. Thanks!
I am so delighted with the beautiful jewels of "intellectual philanthropy" one can find here in the internet! Thank you SO MUCH for posting this educational video in such an interesting and digestible format. Gracias, gracias, gracias. ^_^
i just got an 8 on "Analisis Sociopolitico" thanks to this video (along with others). I want to congratulate the author for explaining in such simple way Bourdieu's Field Theory. It really helped me. Studying from books AND videos is the best fcking way to understand clearly these concepts. Even when my professor says that videos are for short minded. This is not the first time i succeed with this "double support" way of studying, and surely is not gonna be my last. Thumbs up man,u fcking rule
I wrote my thesis "A metatheoretical analysis of the problem of agency and structure", where I heavily emphasized the genius of Bourdieu, for "bridging" The A-S-problem, but also critizised him, especially in his pessimistic outlook and his metaphor of "symbolic violence". I think Luhmann has the right idea though.
I have a question, so do agents try to conserv or transform the structure trough their field ultimately to gain more capital? (even symbolic capital by changing the social structurrs view of certain things, like religious views)
could anyone recommend me a good starting text for learning about Bourdieu & the idea of habitus? I am writing about how accent alone my shape the way in which a person is perceived.
Hello, could anyone please explain the idea of positions that statistically determine the positions agents occupy. Within Bourdieu's definition of a field, thanks.
"A field is a field..." does not cut it. Reflexive definitions do not define, i.e. they are not definitive. Do you have a real definition, preferably from Bourdieu himself?

This has been SO helpful to me in accessing PB's very dense writing on field and habitus. Thank you for posting this!!

Thanks for this video, it really help me understand and finish my final presentation.
@ChillMal look at 'outline of a theory of practice.' it's a book
bedankt voor dit filmpje, het is allemaal een stuk duidelijker geworden (:
This isn't quite right. Doxa refers to "implicit" rules of the game, not "explicit" or formal written rules, as the video says.
Also, how does your source mean "positions that determine the positions"? Are the determinanda positions and the determined positions eiusdem generis?

I love football metaphors! There is nothing you can't bring down to the pitch...
The whole life is a football match.

Thank you!! Why does my teacher have to make it so complicated!! I really dig the accent too.
Me gustó tu video, por las técnicas que utilizas para darnos una pincelada de sociologia.
so anybody got an idea about the name of that transformation of doxa? i think it's 'le sens pratique'.
This helped a lot :-) are you Dutch btw?
@davidgagejackman look at 'outline of a theory of practice.' it's a book
You didn't talk about the "capital," it would be nice if you included that in the example of the soccer field, too.
Good information
is the concept od illusio the same as illusio?
Hi, why don't you make more videos?
Hello, could anyone please explain the idea of positions that statistically determine the positions agents occupy. Within Bourdieu's definition of a field, thanks.
It is about hierarchy or the different fonctions occupied by the members of the field. Goal-keeper is a position, striker of captain is another one.
This great. Thank you.
