@@atomicspartan131 I think that's something people don't notice in other PvP games just simply due to death and harm not being as punishing. In WT, a penetration in many instances is death, even if it isn't the first penetration that killed you. Depending on how people play, that could be their only 6.7 tank lost and all they have now are horribly under tiered tanks left in their lineup, and that first death snowballs because of it. I think the only other game types I'm aware of that are as punishing as that are roguelikes and RTS games. Neither of which I can say most people find fun because of the steep learning curves that they inherently have.
@@bro26mohw I'm no wallet warrior just a simple F2P, but I have to say that despite the game's many flaws, I still pretty much enjoy it That is because I came to WT to play a WW2 vehicles, and that is still the reason why I play it, I mean fuck top tier man Mid tier is the most enjoyable for me and low tier is fun tier
As wallet warrior myself, the events are way to difficult. It actually way more efficient if you just work an actual job and buy the vehicle afterward.
Depends on the Events... the Operation W.I.N.T.E.R and Operation S.U.M.M.E.R arnt that bad... But the ones where you have to build stuff those are annoying AF
I use the bt-7 way past it's tier, i have the event one as well with the 76mm i take into BR 8.3 and above. Its a good light tank if you can be sneaky enough and alot of people underestimate it. If the enemy team is too sharp then its good to use to keep your bigger tanks up and running in a pinch due to it being a light tank.
Hello, could we do this with more veteran, longtime players. I feel the responses would be very different. Also what if you did this with a larger pool, took the statistics and sent them to gaijin.
Me waiting for the same, "omg decompress brs, game was so much better years ago, modern vehicles should be seperate, gaijin is too greedy, historical realism is gone in a video game" approach from one of these "veterans". Our game is so good we complain about the dumbest shit...
@@fuel147 well i mean everyone has a right to their own opinion and gaijin should be aware of them and I think a lot of people would agree with some of the things you said, you shouldn’t sit there and try to be a troll and talk down to me. I’m not going to play that game. I think that’s fundamentally wrong and only goes to show your immaturity.
@@andrewperkovich8184 Omg! immaturity in the comment section of a youtube video, what are you going to do? Cry? Ignore? Write another grammatically correct paragraph? We all know gaijin is aware of all the shit we say to them from the forums and youtube videos people make everyday. Maybe, just maybe these "issues" dont NEED to be fixed. Its almost like for 9 whole years the game has thrived without them!
Don't worry, we did our yelling at each other off-camera ; ) Jokes aside, it was a blast to record our opinions, we joked around with each other while planning the video so it made for a good time
Make this a series please There's so many questions that could be asked and rotate the people being interviewed too tbh. I'd love to partake in one of these personally. It can really highlight the diversities between the player base.
Please do a part two! Also ask them what their opinions are on the minor nations. I think they getting left behind. the last two tanks italy got was one variant tank and one very mediocre tank.
OK, I'll try to give my answers on these questions Q: Is War Thunder fun A: Neutral - depends really on what you're playing, if you are playing like up to rank IV, it is fun to play, but if you go above that, you'll start facing ATGM's, helicopters, jet aircraft etc. and it starts to be pain in that moment, especially when there are some maps where you can't even go anywhere, since they are very big and open and it's just ATGM's firing across the whole map and killing everything, but yes, lower tiers are fun Q: You need to pay money to progress at a reasonable rate A: Strongly agree - I've been playing War Thunder since September 2014 and that was time when I was still a kid with no money, so I couldn't buy any premium stuff and I was also playing arcade for very long time, because I found RB too hard at that time. After reaching 1 000 hours on WT (around 2016/2017, still playing only arcade back then), I had like 1 tech tree at rank V and 3 tech trees on rank III and I was like level 30 or something like that. After some years when I started to get some money, I bought premium and started playing RB and after just 2 weeks of grinding I researched stuff that would have took me months to unlock. So yes, you have to pay. Q: Arcade is good gamemode A: Agree - As I've mentioned above, you won't grind too far with them, but they are good way to grind events, battlepass etc. It's usually much easier to do event tasks in arcade than in RB Q: Helicopters were a good addition to the game A: Strongly disagree - It sounds fun on the paper, but it's much different in the actual game. It's quite unfair that people can grab helicopters right at the start of the battle (yes I know, that the weapons are limited if they do so) and they can spam rockets and get many kills with them. Honestly, if you want to counter helicopters effectively, you need to have a team working together (that goes for the CAS too), but I think that we all know that something like that happens like once per 100 battles. Then there are helicopter only battles and that's another mess. Starting helicopters are getting butchered by more advanced helicopters like Ka-50 etc. and they have very low chance of actually doing something in there. I have bought myself the Ka-50 and it's really disgusting how OP it is. Q: CAS is good in tank battless A: Strongly disagree - It's fun for the ones who are in the planes, but not for the ones on the ground. As i've said above, to effectively counter flying stuff, you need good team that is working together, whis is very rare. It's really frustrating when you are trying to do some task and you simply can't do it because the planes are constantly killing you. And it's even worse at the higher ranks, where you have missiles with god knows how big range and then even AA's are having hard time to do something. I would really appreciate tank only mode, but I'll doubt that this will happen sadly. Q: Naval is fun A: Neutral - haven't played much naval stuff, I tried to play few battles when they came out and I wasn't really impressed, idk how are they now, since I haven't played them since then. Q: Events are too tedious A: Strongly agree - Most of the events are pretty long and hard. For example, when there is event with like 6 vehicles, it's literally impossible to get them. I remember when there was event with first Merkava, I was sick so I was at home for the whole event and I was playing from mourning to midnight to grind all vehicles and I only got 3 - VFW, Merkava and I-180S (at least I believe that there was I-180S in that event). I really can't imagine somebody that would be able to grind all vehicles, it's just impossible. Now I started grinding the battlepass and when I come home from school, I instantly start grinding. And I'm really having a hard time to grind the battlepass and doing stuff for school at the same time. Q: The game is dying A: Strongly disagree - Even tho War Thunder has a tons of problems, it's not really dying. It's still the best game of it's kind on the market and the played numbers are proving it. And if it's going to die someday it's only up to Gaijin.
for the CAS I think they have to give player who likes to play GRB an option to choose from, either they want GRB only or GRB with planes. So for people like me who only like tanks won't get bombarded by toxic enemy player trying to get a revenge kill. If you want to kill me, do it with tanks that's what GRB is for. You won't see anti-air missle tank in ARB. For Arcade I'm fine with planes and tanks in the same game.
War thunder seems to be having less active players than before, but its the only game I know with tanks and planes fighting together in my radar. I don't really see any Wargaming franchises (like WoT) compare to it especially Wargaming's habits today which really took the cake and made me leave my 6 year journey with their games :/ and now I play War Thunder again almost every single day :D
It would be also an interesting idea to find people who only play specific nations or that have a specific nation as a main. And then ask them questions about the game and see whether or not the nation of their choosing influences their answer's in some way.
This became a long rant, which was nice, but i do excuse for the wall of text. Germany used to be really fun imo. But nowdays feels broken and obselete. I dont speak about the cold war in this, i didnt get a tiger untill last year. Because the grind and loss of time so i never could grind for it when it was one of the highest tiered vehicles in the game. The games biggest flaw was changing a lot of vehicles ranks on player skill, and then never bothering to move them once the game got completely cluttered. New vehicles get added, are OP or underpowered, Gets moved in the rank system so they are less of a hassle, but the old vehicles stay exactly where they have been for years, often outmatched entierly. This issue is heavy in both Air and Ground battles, Arcade and realistic. I myself did disgustingly well with the Spitfire, Bf-110, Fw190 and the likes, totaling 10 kills more often than below 5. But then they've been moved, which felt weird because in the case of the Bf-110 i never generally saw many other players using it, so im guessing a small pool of players who did really well with them had their ranks affected massively. Today the Bf-110 sits at a rank where its undergunned compared to many normal fighters, and also out speeded and turned. And all the clutter vehicles that have been added make it less likely to be fixed. Sure, at a lower tier, the BF110 would be rather over gunned, but its turn time and speed would not be. Rant really begins after this point, so i'd say skip it. When i started playing, there werent tanks in the game. Took a break for a year or two and they appeared. Tank as Germany when fighting other world war two vehicles was extremely fun, everything below tier 4 was just splendid. Hardly any random cold war vehicles, like the god awfull R3, or the likes. Game stopped being fun as a Germany or Soviet main when there were so many random vehicles added in to add content. Say the Swedish vehicles you see, a lot of them come from the late 1940's to around 1950. But got cold war era ammunition. Now these can be found at low tiers such as 2.3 last i played. I prefer to play around tier 2.7-3.9. I was playing Germany only, and the occasional soviet match, like that for over a year or two. Also, back then, if my memory serves me right, US wasnt that great of a country to play. Because they did not have the machineguns availible. the 50.Cal machineguns really ruined low tier entierly. Back then britain was a valid country too, because the damage models werent too great, but not bad either, so playing with Solid shot only wasnt as much of a pain as it is today. Overall Armor piercing ammunition has become rather worthless. While HEAT rounds, started fairly good IMO but then ended up being buffed to oblivion, then nerfed into the ground. Arcade used to be fun too. Germany was kinda OP because of their large array of early war vehicles, there was some of everything to have. Now every nation essentially fills a specific purpose. Or take China, they have the best of the US and USSR tanks, which gives those players a bit of an edge Imo. Planes, no real comment, Soviet planes felt way too overpowered for far too long. I started grinding that tree once they nerfed them, so i was stuck wondering why they did so poorly after years of seeing people main soviets everywhere. All the time. Overall the biggest change though, is the community. You can tell almost straight away in a match today who's been playing the game for years, or who's new. Those who know every single sneaky spot on the map, and those who have no idea about them and seem to not even understand the balistics properly. This is noticerable in RB mostly. In Arcade its becoming more and more noticerable over the last few years i'd say. One of my fondest memories was playing in my freshly unlocked Kv-1. Was driving down a hill with two other soviet players who also had them, we took hit upon hit and kept rolling on, then got close enough to the enemy that we eventually started getting penned. One of us got knocked out halfway across, second guy near the enemey, cant recall if it was a town or another hill we attacked, and i managed to get close and destroy two tanks before i went down. Entire enemy team was essentially STuG's, Panzer 4's and the odd Marder. Biggest problem i have. Absolutely biggest problem, is the fact that nations arent fighting specific nations anymore. You used to get realistic battles with only Germans fighting soviets, which was extremely fun and balanced. You'd get curbed if you tried to engage T34's and Kv'1s frontally, but you didnt have all that many mobile vehicles at the tiers to move up and flank with. While today you migth fight the Soviets and Germans, and you get British, American and whatever else on your team. The tanks with the most manouverability against the enemy with the least. While in the old slugfests, you'd have T-34's fighting Panzer 4's who have arguably the same mobility. Leading ot way less bullshit flankings, and when someone actually managed to flank properly they could do amazing damage, because they either got lucky or managed to destroy whoever was in their way. Nowdays i guess the R3 got uptiered, but back when it was lower than now, it just ruined everything. That and all kinds of other super fast cheese vehicles, tiny profiles, high speed, and amazing penetration and balistics. Theres too much clutter in the game. Every game feels extremely different from the last. Which is nice with variation, in theory, but in practise every round is just a different kind of bullshit from the last. You manage to flank around finally with a medium tank? well unfortunately for you now theres some tiny ass meta vehicle who knows exactly where you are coming, which you have no possibility of out turning, or even rotating the gun in time. While he runs circles around you. I was grinding without paying, i've never bought a tank and never really used the gold lions for anything but crew slots, because the more the game has changed, having a "tried and true" loadout doesnt work anymore. I spent over a year playing STuG, Panzer-4 and a Panzer-3 And a Marder III for open maps. I havent touched that lineup at all in the last year or two. Because its not worthwhile anymore. The grind was awfull, but i bet its even worse now. But the variantions of vehicle and faction lineup makes any loadout purely theoreticall. I take the marder 3 out today, MG death right away, or some cheesy bastard who shoot me from accross the map, because he knows the range from spawn dune 1 to my spawn dune 2 by heart. I take the Stug out, and suddently theres a R3 or some other monstrosity on wheels which can move at 50+ km an hour. Panzer 3 is just utterly worthless now, i dont even use it anymore. I only get kills when i get lucky to fight some weak armor nations, or end up on a flank. So i stopped playing it long ago. Panzer 4, you have to play the most toxic game with it nowdays. You have to fight at a range. Or so it feels. Germany feels obselete since they have world war 2 tanks, and then a bunch of prototypes fighting random actuall late war tanks, then you are thrown into cold war. I dont know how to pinpoint it really. So much has changed and things that were fixed in a month felt like it took years, but the game changed so much with every patch. One patch breaks something, entire playerbase changes around it, broken thing fixed, player base doesnt revert back to how it was. They give so much focus to adding new vehicles, trees and stuff, that it feels like an odd blend that doesnt work right anymore. It used to be much better, but the game should really have broken into two when they started going for cold war vechiles. Air, however, thats what i mained for the longest time. Also germany, because amazing variation of planes. Same as that, i found a lineup i liked after a few months of grinding, then kept playing that lineup for years, untill i came back after a month or two where i had a lot of work, and found out its just broken too. No fun left in it. I still get some good kicks out of it, but its so weird. When the FW planes were new, you'd get 5-6 kills with them a lot in Arcade. I used to total 10-12 kills rather often. The plane hasnt changed much apart from where its rank is, but nowdays when i play, i only get 2-3 kills when im lucky, but mostly im one shotted on first real encounter and get left frustrated. So most games i play today, i sit around 5 or less kills exept for the lucky streak where theres a lot of new people on the enemy team. Also another plane that used to be amazing, the Bf-110. It used to be slightly lesser rank. So its firepower was extremely good, while its turn capabilities were slightly less than most fighters, so you'd end up being out turned a lot, but still had amazing fun with it. It was the first plane i ever got 9 kills in an arcade match with. Which was when i started getting good at the game. Then i took a break for a year or so again, moved a bunch, different jobs, so on so forth. And then i came back and every plane i used to love had either been nerfed to the ground, or moved in rank so its completely understrenght, because people did really good with them when they were lower tier and the game had far less clutter.
One of the nice things that I've come to realize after playing for years in regards to fun in the game is that I can choose what I want to play. Though granted I have many things unlocked because of those years of playing but it's nice that I can choose instead of diehard always moving forward. If I want to only play low and mid tier there isn't anything stopping me. For example I really like playing prop planes and not jets, so I just don't play jets even though air rb isn't a very good gamemode that really needs an overhaul. Helis aren't so bad as when they were first introduced but grinding to get them is a nightmare. But the gamemode helis really ruin is sim. I've had games where neither side can do anything because the enemy team gets instantly wiped out by a ka-50 since they can observe the whole map, frankly its not fun for anyone. I like naval a lot but some of the changes I can't agree with. The splitting of the trees sure it got more people to play destroyers but that's it nobody cares about the costal vessels really even thought they're a lot of fun. I do like that they made the sl and rp rewards higher, in the past they were less than tanks and you would get noting for playing top tier. But on the flip side it seems that only ships were given higher modifiers, and costal vessels that are top tier have mbt/super sonic jet sl and rp costs have miniscule sl and rp modifiers. I like the new rang finding and sighting interface its much more user friendly. I'm mixed on the damage models crew being basically a health bar is frustrating and while I've always tried to hit the other ships ammo sometimes that's difficult to do and is mostly rng at long distances. They even decompressed naval which was good but again it was only ships. Overall naval has potential but it lacks players giving meaningful feedback and gaijin doesn't seem to know what to do with it. Statistically saying the game is dying is flat out false. Looking at the steam charts shows that the trend of players is only rising with each update. The game is even always in the top 50 games played on steam. A lot of the bad things people cite even in this video, sure they suck but they're mostly things only hardcore players of the game will really care about and notice. War thunder is constantly changing war thunder in 2014 is radically different to modern war thunder.
Agree with the props are fun thing, but honestly I've come to see gaijin a scummy company that doesn't deserve my money. I just wish there was a good alternative that would steal the playerbase
Totally agree. I can choose what nation, what generation of vehicles, and then what type of vehicle I want to play. And when I get sick of for example tank RB, I can play planes, and choose from several generations and multiple roles of planes in Air RB. If I want fast paced, crazy gameplay, I can play Arcade, and if I want ultra real gameplay, I can play sim. And then Sometimes I play naval, simply to try. But WT to me feels like many games and so much variety packed into one game, if I get bored of one br or nation, I can play another. If I get sick of one game mode, I csan play another. I also play World of Tanks, which I love, but it doesn't have the same feel of having many games in one game. In that game, I have to play one kind of battle. Sure, they have events, but its all the same. With World of Tanks, and now War Thunder as my main games I play, I have what seems like an infinity of different things to play.
Actually found this really interesting and would love a part 2. Would be nice to see a wider range of players in part 2 such as arcade, realistic, sim, newer and older players to see what results that could lead to.
"If you play for free you are not going to get anywhere, you are going to be stuck in rank 2" *Me: currently at 9.7 without spend a cent* _after years of cruel and inhuman grinding_
Yeah, im at 12.0 and pretty far in second nation and playing for 2 years (While having a job and a kid:D) and i spent only about 10€ to finish a task for AVRE. But sometimes, it would definetely be a better idea to sleep instead of playing:)
Only stuff l spend was with GJN (Gaijin Coins); by events, l just sold all the materials l got. And got lucky with a RBT-5 too, sold that for 35-36 GJN + made like extra 20-25 GJN from materials. Since yea, you can buy Golden Eagles with GJN too and maybe.... stuff from their shop too? So you can spend "money" without spending money on it c:
I did the same [excluding the occasional event vehicle purchase from running out of time to grind it (I’m on PS4 too btw)] and then eventually started spending money on the game regularly for premium time and the Battle Pass. My Rank 7 was the MiG-21Bis.
Same, made it to rank 7 without premium, but bought it later because grind was a bit too long. RP gain rate is kinda ok but sl gain is absolute bs. I can get 2 K/D ratio on 10.3 and lose 10k
@@erenzo1914 For me it was kinda the opposite. I gained more SL than RP and the reason why I got Premium was just because I was playing so much anyway and wanted to speed up my grind an extra bit for other nations and also ban maps that I disliked.
As a veteran from... I believe February of 2014, I remember when CAS was first reintroduced to WT in the "Hardcore RB/SB" Test modes. For those unfamiliar, both gamemodes had all markers removed (RB had previously featured markers for friends *and* foes) and aircraft present. It also predated the spawn point system (which I still believe is horrendous, as it causes games to heavily favor whichever team wins the initial engagements). For a brief window, also, aircraft either were forced to spawn at airfields or this had just become an honor code among pilots; I don't recall. But, in short, aircraft could spawn from the beginning of the match, but they had to actually fly to battle, giving the tanks time to get into positions and take cover before the bombs came in. Also, aircraft had to loiter over target for much longer because they had to make sure it wasn't friendly. And the dogfighting was fantastic, too, since it was a constant game of trying to hide or get the drop on someone. This was some of the best combined arms gameplay I've experienced in WT, and I wish it wasn't made exclusive to Sim... where I really just don't have the piloting chops to handle the controls and have yet to set-up my flight stick well enough to use. That much is on me, but even with the current version of RB, I feel there's a lot that could've been learned that wasn't. Nowadays, CAS is pretty much just a power-up awarded for good play (or, just as often, luck), and players are pretty much encouraged to dump their ordnance and ditch their plane as quick as possible to get back in a tank and keep getting kills, rather than try to run home and grab more bombs or to loiter over the airspace to intercept hostile planes. Plus, the short flight to battle really doesn't discourage everyone's favorite banality of the game, Revenge Bombing.
From hearing staffelkap opinion about "war thunder is fun".he's definitely the most experienced one out of all of them lmao, BR can sometimes be inconsistent cause sometanks need to be balance
Where is the "I joined your warthunder server to play paradox games and became an admin despite having less than 50 hours in WT" player? Downvoted and reported >:(
15:06 one thing I would add at this point is, even though the guy kamikazes my tank sometimes, it’s not always a indication of revenge bombing, I for instance I’m a mediocre plane player when it comes to cas, so I will tend to drop the bombs as low as possible to actually hit (and I’m overly confident flying low, because I can’t count the number of maneuver kill i already did thanks to trees), which sometimes causes a Kamikaze unintentionally because “now pull up, come on up, fuck, fuck, fuck, dammit how did I do this?” Or the “god dammit who put a tree on the way?”
There are tanks that get HEAT-FS at 6.7, but they're normally too squishy to survive first contact generally. Think the M56, BMPS, and a few TDs. Edit: Regarding CAS - I wish that we had more AA options to use against air-craft.
I tried to spade M56 Scorp, I stopped because the stock shell was APCR and went from Walker Bulldog to T92 because of decent shells to finally kill armored targets, and not suffer with APCR while being nuked by Artillery
There's tanks at 5.7 with HEATFS with the m36B1 (italy) having a 90mm HEATFS. Germany gets them at 6.3 with their bulldog (76mm HEATFS) and the JPZ-4-5 (90mm HEATFS) britain also has 6.0 HEATFS with the ratel-90 And I don't think I need to mention all the italian HEATFS slingers, we all know them.
I can answer the naval question. I've played naval RB (bluewater) for quiet some time. I'm currently at the German BB's. All I can say is that it needs a big rework. Gaijin said in their last Q&A video that its really hard to make bluewater naval fun, since most players have no patience driving 1h to battle or shooting at a target behind the horizon. But what Gaijin should really do is just to copy maps from World of Warships. Currently all ships spawn about +10km away with no cover and whoever has the best guns and armor wins. Why don't we spawn behind big mountains on islands and stuff and put those islands all around the map just like in coast mode???? It is simply impossible to have realistic bluewater battles, stop trying Gaijin and just make them like coast mode. I've also played naval events that literally go for HOURS, one battle took me nearly 4h to finish, I was in the Tannenberg, can you imagine driving 20kmh for 4h trying to reach objectives??!!!! Our team had to capture docs and those were kilometers away from each other, so it took you nearly an hour to drive to every objective and cap it. And don't get me started on the spawns......it was a massacre most of the time. Enemies always spawn at the docs, you could literally spawncamp them, they often would legit spawn 500m away from me with NO spawn protection, they had no chance.
Let me try (4282h playtime on my current account on steam). I'll be talking mostly from a perspective of a tanker/pilot. -Is WT fun? Agree: Not all of it but overall it's definitely fun, especially low-mid tiers. -You need to pay money to progress at a reasonable rate. Agree: Low-Mid tier is doable, higher tiers are very painful to grind. -Arcade is good gamemode Strongly Agree: Air AB is way more fun than Air RB from my experience, Ground and Ship AB are still ok. -Helicopters were a good addition to the game Strongly Disagree: Cancer. I would rather die twice to a plane than once to some heli sitting 10km away. It's better than it used to be but they're still annoying. They are one of the main reasons why top tier is cancer. Only good thing they bring to the game is satisfation of killing them. -CAS is good in tank battless Agree: It might be annoying sometimes but it's fun to do and it has its counters (other planes, SPAAs or gravity). Revenge CAS is the biggest problem but it's rare if you don't sit in one place all the time. -Naval is fun Neutral: I had some fun in it but I'm not planning to play it anyrime soon, and its economy is awful. -Events are too tedious Agree: Not strongly agree only because I never want to unlock all avalible vehicles, just one or two at most. -The game is dying Disagree: State of the game used to be better but I don't see it dying anytime soon unless there will be some sudden competition.
i disagree with u on CAS, its pure cancer, helis are much more cancer tho, but im not playing tank gamemode to be bombed, if air exists, why can ground exist alone?
CAS is somewhat fixed in arcade battles, it basically made any air based combat into waves that put control back into your hand instead of having it be random luck
I agree with the pay to win aspect. I play mostly for free, and I am always extremely low on SL. I have many tanks that are researched, but I can't buy them until I grind the silver lions to get them all. I do love the game, and have a lot of fun though. As for arcade, I hate it. I play World of Tanks also, and I wanted to play a more realistic tank game with more features to the tanks, and war thunder was the best choice for that. I started playing arcade, played a few battles, and switched to RB, even though it took me a few months to a year to even figure out where I was being shot from.
Edit: After thinking of my own experience trying to get friends involved in the game, I can understand why Gaijin are trying to remove the learning curve. The one time I got a friend to play for more than a couple hours, he was constantly beyond frustrated at his lack of performance (flying Air RB in US props). He lacked the patience and desire to learn the mechanics, strategies, and skills to improve, instead just being emotionally reactionary to every death or kill that occurred. He's also the type to more enjoy going right into battle, instead of positioning and thinking the battle through in the climb. So, if they want to grow their game, they very well may have to market to those kind of players. (Doesn't make it any less frustrating though). > Is the game dying? No. It will continue to pull in new players, and the vets aren't leaving at a concerning rate as far as I can tell. However, to the vets, it is. It's not dying in the sense that it won't be around, but it's dying in the sense that the veteran players can't detect the same love for the game the devs used to have as before. They do seem to enjoy developing the game still, but there are decision makers at Gaijin that are pushing the game in a direction that the vets absolutely despise, increasing monetization, grind times, and reducing the learning curve to a roll of the dice in some cases. The most aggravating part, is when Gaijin don't see the issues that veteran players point out to them, mainly pertaining to balance and compression issues. They ignore it, and solely balance by statistics. This is strange, as they claim to spend a lot of time thinking if a mechanic will be balanced to add it, such as SAMs, AAMs, etc, yet once it's in, they don't think about balancing this again.
I'm a f2p since 2014(on and off) I just hit the AV8 while grinding a bit in other countries at the same time, Just Mastering the Vehicles i have has kept me entertained all this time
About CAS, for Jan's point, Gaijin knows how to implement it, because they have it in Enlisted, where they only allow 2 vehicles of each type at a time.
I really like this concept applied to war thunder and the execution too. However I'm quite Fuelphobic (sorry Fuel, I don't like ptw people. Just stick to low tier)
Yeah I have nothing against the guy But, idk, it seems like, his opinion doesnt really count as he has just payed what other people have to play to get
I've been playing since march of 2013. I have not played it in over a year. The grind is astronomical and top tier ground RB is soul sucking. I'll probably come back once the F-14 and A-10 are added. I've always preferred Air combat to tanks.
Can you please do a part 2? I want to ask why there are not many Britain tank players at 6.0 and under, So many times I go into a match and be the only Britain tank player, but there is so much USA,Germany and Russia. Also another question, do you think APCR solid shot is as good as APHE. I ask this as I find it so annoying going up against Germany who can one shot my heavy tank with any standard German gun. Yet even with my 17 pounder I can’t one shot often. Apart from tiger 1 through its frontal plate. That is satisfying Thanks great vid! Fun to hear all the different accents 👌
Honestly I love to bring fighter planes into ground rb , the other planes are such easy targets and it helps your team without bullying the other teams tanks
I really enjoy this game but sometimes It is a bit maddening, try to win SL for be able of use some expensive vehicles sometimes it's a nightmate. I love how Maus run out of camera for events difficulty, even playing arcade reach the objetive if you have more things to do than playing is terrible. I think a lot of problems of the game would be resolved if they fix the BR, especially for lots of heavy tanks BR is too bad, you fight against cold war light tanks that are faster, have better guns and pen you without any problem.
I guess I'll drop some of my own view to these same questions and leave some questions for a thought. I have played the game since it was in Open Beta back in either March or April of 2013, and my hours on Steam are recorded as 3055.4 + hrs for the game as of now; obviously less than actual hours as it wasn't on steam back then. Q: War Thunder is fun A: Somewhat Agree - It can be fun when you aren't being too serious. Though I find that only comes when you aren't doing things like events, grinding modifications on stock vehicles and other things that just make the game not fun and of course there is also knowing what your preferred play-style is. At this point I believe one will get the most fun with Rank 3 vehicles or at least around BRs at and below 5.7 at least with Tanks. Q: You need to pay money to progress at a reasonable rate A: Strongly Agree - After you research Rank 2 vehicles, the long grind kinda begins at Rank 3 as I had learned grinding rank 3 US and Russian tanks where the best as a F2P player you can achieve for vehicles is at least a 2k RP a match to unlock some vehicles; and of course with the randomness matches can be, it can cause some discouragement. Though it is at that point where caring about it really should not be something a F2P player should care until they have about 2-1k RP left. And of course if you are playing vehicles that aren't within the ranks for efficient RP gains to the next vehicle you are researching, getting ~1K RP is essentially a good match. Q: Arcade is a good game mode A: Agree - Although I mostly play Tank RB nowadays, I would be lying if Arcade didn't provide the fun aspects most people actually want, especially in Air Battles. However there are some problems such as certain vehicles are disadvantaged either by BR or just because of Arcades mechanics actually just ruin them such as thinly armored TDs that require not being seen to actually mean anything in battle but with their name tag being seen by everyone within the map really ruins them. But it is a good game mode for those just coming into the game. Q: Helicopters were a good addition to the game A: Neutral - I haven't played any tiers with Helicopters admittedly. I do have vehicles that would see such things but my running into them have been minor back when I did play anything past 6.7. Much like high tier battles having new mechanics that intimidate me, let alone that the vehicles I play will be stock which just adds more to the feeling of disadvantaged when thinking I will just fight against those that have a fully spaded vehicle maxed out crew is enough to keep me away from High Tier battles. Q: Close Air Support is a good thing in tank battles A: Disagree - Admittedly I have strong mix feelings towards CAS. They can be helpful in dealing with enemies sitting in heavily fortified positions. But that requires a form of team work which in casual matches is not something you will have. And then there is of course how disadvantaged even SPAA are at even doing their role of taking aircraft out. I have seen pilots actually dance around my shells while flying straight at me before ending me or heavily crippling me which is ridiculous. SPAA are also disadvantaged in that they also have to pick up the slack of the tankers when they aren't even meant for that role. Not to mention certain SPAA are just heavily disadvantaged, any vehicle that was sitting at 4.0 and above with a 40mm Bofors have been dropping in BR that for most nations that aren't Germany and Italy, using any mid-tier SPAA is worthless due to their poor turret traverse, slow fire rate, and overly exposed crew and ammo I wouldn't be surprised to see the M42 Duster drop to 3.7 at this rate. That playing USA, Britain, Russia it is actually better to bring Rank 1 and 2 SPAA like the quad .50 Cals over the M42, the Crusader MK II SPAA over the Crusader MK I as your SPAA, and just take the twin 25mm truck over the 37mm on the ZSU-37. CAS and SPAA need a rework, cause at this moment aside from most players do not want to play with SPAA, there is very little SPAA can do to counter air strikes in the mid-tiers which is where a huge complaint of CAS will be; espeically when we have things like the Pe-8 which rarely will get shot down by SPAA due to its high altitude levels, and how most players will have no fear of SPAA. Not to mention how hard it is to find aircraft when there are so many other things to look out for in the battle as well as all the sensory overload that it is hard to find aircraft especially in cramped urban areas without exposing yourself. And of course there are certain aircraft that are far too good for its BR, like the Wyvern. It may not be a jet, but it may as well be like fighting a Me262 Narwhal at 4.7 with how fast it goes. But considering that Gaijin seems to only focus on the high tier stuff, I don't expect anything to happen for SPAA anytime soon. Q: Naval is fun A: Neutral - Naval has some potential however I just can not bring myself to play the game due to many factors such as long queue times as I wasn't playing it back when it first came out, and the ship type split furthered that issue. And let's just say everything wrong people say about Planes or Tanks (BR Compression, Tedious Grinds, etc) Naval has those issues exponentially worse. I honestly want to play the game mode, but it just takes too long to get a match and what actual gains I have already achieved in Bluewater USA Rank 1 - 2 is like if I had jumped from Rank 1 Planes to Tier 6 Jets; it is just really intimidating and makes you feel outclassed and useless. Q: Events are too tedious A: Strongly Agree - I had felt this way even before I got a job where I had all the free time in the world. But when I did get a job, I noted that there was no way I could ever do these events task in even the 2 day limit; especially when the times I'd be off to even play the game are limited for the next day and I didn't need the emotional turmoil the game tends to give playing long hours to even get a task down weighing on my mind while at work. It is a distraction I do not need and I'm sure many others don't want either. Q: The Game is dying A: Agree - I don't expect the game to die anytime soon, but some of Gaijin's changes are certainly speeding up its death toll. Horrible Map Designs, Kursk being one of the worst since its implementation back in 2014 and none of its changes really do anything to address its issues that well. The BR changes that make no sense such as what happened with the Jagdpanther and the Jumbo Sherman with the 76mm. Gaijin is in a very ironic way adding new features to keep the game alive while also quickening its death toll.
Jeez i feel Old. I originally started playing in 2012. But like between 2013 and 2019 i didn't really played much and real grind began when i quit world of warships about a year ago. So when they say they started playing in 2017/2018 it really hits hard.
So, funny thing about that. In the original recording, I used a Puma, some problems happened with the original recording so we had to re-shoot the visual parts. I just got the M4A5 at the time because of the sale and I wanted to use it, so some areas can be a bit confusing
It’s nice to get into but as soon as you realize that your progressing at a snails pace, it just ends up with people stopping. Like me for example, just waiting for it to not be so bad.
Wt isnt dying and the player counts prove it, there is no competition to warthunder so the players base has nothing else to switch to. Ghpc is a niche simulator game without progression anything, just realistic simulation of tank combat against AI for the most part iirc. Other air combat games are either hard core sims like Il-2 and dcs or really arcadey like world of warplanes, world of warplanes was just objectively worse than warthunder in every aspect like the flight controls and how the game feels. I dont see any competition for warthunder appearing ever, warthunder at its core has perfected the middle ground of realism and fun/accessible gameplay and controlls/flight models. Wt has a monopoly over this middle ground between hard core and casual venichle combat, its so old with so much content that even a AAA studio would take years to match if ever at all.
The lack of competition for warthunder and the lack of potential for a serious competetor to even be made is bad for the game. Gaijin doesnt have to worry about the game dying, the game is growing in player count at a steady pace and with no competition they dont have to worry about a mass exodus of players leaving to another game like wt because there is none. Unless gaijin makes an incredibly bad change that affects everyone, the playerbase wont stop growing. AND NO repair costs arent that, if repair costs or the economy were that then the player count wouldnt be growing would it. The game getting old doesnt mean anything as long as there isnt any competition, just look at csgo(valorant is a thing but hasnt made any impact on csgo)
100% agree. I see this as the main reason other games by Gaijin are struggling. I've tried Enlisted and the progression system was a slog just like WT. How are they going to compete with AAA titles like BF and COD or even other sim ww2 shooters with that business model. Only reason WT isnt dead yet is cause theres no good competitor
Exactly the player numbers are the highest the have ever been. And GHPC is just a niche ulta ridiculously realistic game that you play for an hour and drop. Then come back every month or so. No fun in that.
I would say I find CAS annoying when it's more then 3 planes at a time. But the issue of helicopters is what drives me up the wall. After experiencing the ka-50/52 I'm now a supoorter of raising the to cost to plane levels in gorind RB. Naval is just plain boring for me because I do have access to higher teir play, and still struggle with aim some.
Pilot personalities, or why I hate CAS in general - The revenge bomber [air spawn YEET by the guy you just outplayed] The high altitude sweating cock [abuses meta to shred teams two minutes into match] The lawn dart [torpedoes plane into you to ensure kill] Mr. My team doesn't matter, ignore the objectives for stats [also up within two minutes] Wallet Plane [often useless player that feeds other team, or is one of the above] 2 death leaves "Just play AA" guy [any of the above, insults you for being bad in M42, says it is great, then when goaded out of plane into M42 he pulls goose eggs] It's almost like having air spawns, full kill cams, OP pressure, early game spawn allowance, double score gains over tanks, low SP cost, allowing strategic bombers [F*ing Pe8 scum], and not having cockpit lock in tank RB is a bad idea that facilitates mouse aim laser pointer cheesing...
Why would you want the cost of planes to go up , if you just said that the ka/50 drived you up the wall. Planes are the best at taking out helicopters.
@@Licmebro I was trying to say raise the price on helicopters so you can't first spawn in them. But if you can it better be with the lowest rocket setup as I think about it
Honestly the only reasons why the game is not dying as of yet is the fact that people who have invested money/time into this game don't wanna leave it all behind and the fact that there aren't any other real options (except for playing nothing)
I agree with you. There are very few games like War Thunder. The only other games I know that are similar to War Thunder are World of Tanks which, based on my own experience, is awful and a few games on Roblox such as Cursed Tank Simulator which is actually pretty darn good but is, unfortunately, on Roblox.
The problem is those people will eventually die but the amount of new players is very small cause level 100s find low tier fun but the new players just ragequit the game
IMO i missed the inclusion of a dedicated plane player. All the participants here are mainly Tank players. I'm pretty sure if someone, who mainly only plays Air RB and CAS, they would also have a different opinion.
no shit. a person dat constantly kills tanks in cas obviously would strongly agree in "CAS is gud". CAS is a fuking cancer and gaijin doesnt do shit about it.
Currently have 320 hours and a 44 day login streak, averaging around 2-4 hours a day. I haven't spent any money on WT, have never used Premium, and only play Ground RB. Currently up to 6.3 Germany and 6.0 France, the grind is unreal. I average 5k to 35k Sil per game. I've tried to grind planes to combat enemy CAS, but its just not fun and takes way too long. Never even touched Naval. WT in its current state is more like a tech demo with no variety. It needs more gamemodes like CTF, Team Deathmatch, or different types of objectives. The Battle Pass sucks, I'm not grinding boring parts of the game for such meager rewards. WT desperately needs more choice and transparency in matchmaking, too. I want Ground RB _without_ CAS, only tanks. I want to force MM to _only_ play at my BR. I don't care if it makes queue times 10x longer. You can't even ban maps/gamemodes without Premium. Camo bushes are also blatantly P2W and need an option to disable them.
I have around 3000 hours ingame and i dont collect login streaks because they are not rewading and they dont make any sense. I did spend a bit of money ingame but its under $30. I used to sell parts on market from events, that way i would save GJN and buy G. Eagles. I agree with you,War Thunder is not welcoming at all towards new players. I agree that we need tank mode only, worrying about enemy tanks alone is scary, having helicopters and planes flying above is even more worrying. And for all these years we played this game,we've never been given a free premium vehicle for just playing the game. Wargaming (the dudes that made World of Tanks) give out premium tanks to their players once in a while. We never got anything for literally free, not even for New Year. We get events instead, that you have to either grind your ass off OR ofcourse give Gaijin money to make event easier.
Idea for War Thunder make a Game Filter that sorts WW2, Cold War, Modern Era Vehicles for their battles. Like you can select each mode or combine it like for Example 1. WW2 era + Cold War Era 2. Modern era itself. 3. All of the Era
I enjoyed this video a lot. As a new Warthunder player, I started about... a week ago I think? I do enjoy the game itself much more than World of Tanks, of which I've been playing since it dropped on the Xbox 360, I can say that I've been missing out. Also, I've learned that it's better to just stay at Tier Two just from a few matches it seems like the BR rating at times can be unforgivable though it does seem much more balance through the lower Tiers.
So 1 year later. Still playing? Have you been consumed by this inhuman game? Did you sell your soul to the snail? Or did you quit while you had the chance?
since when i first played this game i had no idea how the hole rp and sl worked, i just did what they told me to do. like when u buy a new vehicle they tell u to bye it, so i did that for a while until i realized i had only 1000 sl. and knowing i was bad at the game i spent $6 for 400,000 sl. and after that, i realized i had to get better. and now im almost at jets.
One thing.. 1 year premium is like 40$ on end of the year sale. And 40$ is like 3.40$/month x 12months. If you play the game and have fun + its free2play. I think ots worth atleast to buy a premium acc.
What I hate the most, Is when you get a stock vehicle and you only have HEAT shells and you still get uptiered. then trying to research any AP shells that would take about 50,000 point in research, just to reach it.
I quit WT about a year ago but I still want to give my two cents on the question in the video. Note that my opinions may be a lot different as I’m a hardcore tank AB player (occasionally dabbles in air AB) and have never went above 5.7BR. 1. Is WT fun? Agree. A large variety of tanks at the lower tiers meant a differing capabilities and play styles, keeping it interesting. Higher in BR you go though CAS becomes a big issue and the game becomes less forgiving and fun. But given how hard WT already is it’s usually quite satisfying to get a single proper kill. 2. You need to pay money to progress at a reasonable rate. Strongly agree. By the time I reached Rank III tanks the grind is already extremely slow and painful IMO, worsened by the less forgiving nature of the higher BRs. It’s a large reason I quit actually. Can’t imagine the lengths someone has to go through to get to the Cold War and top tier vehicles F2P. 3. Arcade is a good game mode. Agree. I’m probably biased on this since I only play AB, but it is a faster paced and less stressful game mode. You have markers that gives you an idea of enemy locations, tanks and planes are faster, and you have guaranteed respawns even if you didn’t do anything. I personally really like AB and dislike the unforgiving nature of RB given how hard WT already is, but I can see people preferring the slower pace and higher skill ceiling of RB. 4. Helicopters were a good addition to the game. Neutral. Never played with nor against them. 5. CAS is a good thing in tank battles. Disagree. While I do think CAS can help in dislodging entrenched tanks, killing tough tanks and breaking stalemates, I think they’re bad for a tank focused game mode. Tanks can literally do nothing against planes, they are always too slow or too thin-skinned to survive a CAS strike, IMO this is unfair, annoying and unfun, and another reason I quit the game. SPAA can’t completely solve this issue as either no one runs them or they’re not effective enough. This is compounded in AB as you don’t risk spawn points or future respawns for a CAS strike, and fighters can’t catch up to them before they drop their first bombs. People will just suicide bomb in large bombers (bigger bombs + shorter fuse delay) to ensure kills. If you want CAS make it an RB + SB exclusive, but leave it out of AB. 6. Naval is fun. Neutral. Only played a couple games in starter boats so can’t give conclusive opinion. 7. Events are too tedious. Agree. While I think the time given is enough for you to get one of the available vehicles I know many players would like to have all of them, and in that sense these events are way too tedious and grindy. It’s practically forcing you to use IRL money just to have all or most of the vehicles. 8. The game is dying. Somewhat Disagree. The game still have a ton of players and you can still easily find matches in any BR range. But a lot of the decisions made and the current nature and environment of the game is driving players away. I think the main reason it’s still so popular is because there’s no true competitor, no game that plays like WT to urge it improve, and also the reason people may return after quitting the game. The game may not be dying, but it’s definitely balancing right on the edge IMO.
Feels odd playing War Thunder longer than all the people in this video except Fuel (i started playing around early-mid 2016 but took a break from war thunder in late 2017 and returned in late 2019) yet I haven't reached top tier in any of my tech trees yet and have only reached 1000hrs fairly recently (2-3 months ago. My "highest tier" tree is Sweden due to the fact that there's not a lot of tanks/tanks and im only to tier 4 in both
I find it weird that most WT players are playing in tanks, after playing since that gamemode came out. Personally I can't play it at all because of the immense grind.
My only thing about “Do you have to pay to progress in war thunder” I havnt spent a dime on anything other then when I had a 50% coupon for the panzer IV G for Italy And by that point I had already got my 5.0 Sherman firefly So the panzer 4 was really just to take advantage of the sale and coupon I got I’m about 500hrs in (something like 470 something) And rank 29 I believe And I don’t struggle at all to progress I got America and France up to rank 3 in both air and ground Italy to rank 6 on ground and rank 5 on air There are times I really want to get a premium, or buy a bunch of stuff But honestly, I don’t need to, it’s more of a completionist thing for me then anything I really don’t think you need to pay to have fun or even to progress fairly quick Maybe I’m just better then the average player and that’s why? But I doubt it lol Just my 2 cents
@@fuel147 yeah, and play at different BR’s if you are having a bad time I was playing with the fiat 6614 for a while and got burnt out after 3 deaths in a row So I played American 2.3 and Italian 1.0-2.0 and had tons of fun! Got a few 10-1 or 10-3 games and called it a day with a smile!
i have played naval tbh it is kinda fun but the thing that annoys me the most is just 90% of the time, whenever I'm fighting another player, it takes like 2 seconds for me to black out one of their comparments meanwhile they can somehow black out my entire ship in 0.5 seconds.
I think that this is interesting but it really only covers a group that has played for 3-6 years and mainly tanks. The questions aren't really hard-hitting either. I think a series of polls with explanations from a couple people with each standpoint would be more useful.
In this game the fun is from 2.0 to 6.3/7 If you want to go beyond that it's -Time consuming/unfun most of the time/expesive in SL & (if you can) in GE/the steep learning curve to air battle when you get your first jets won't help/the helicopter ( gaijin why ? ) and too much to be remembered . And even if you get to the rank 7 and got your dreamed 11.0 you will just find yourself playing lower br most of the time (or customs battles) Im playing since 2013 and it's what i've learned. Got to 9.7 and wont go any higher than that, it's not worth the trouble. Hat down to all of you that went to 11.0
only reason i play war thunder is to purposefully piss off people by being a good teammate, which confuses the team so much they turn hostile as a response as theyr minds instantly go "wait, that's illegal!"
I've been playing for exactly 8245.8 hours according to steam, i started in 2017 right after the Katyusha event (so mad i wasnt there in time) but thats the time i changed to PC i played in PS4 around 2016 so i can certainly give some opinions and answer some of the question if not all of them Q -> War Thunder is fun? A-> Agree. as many have said if you have friends everything is more enjoyable, that not just to apply to War Thunder but to all games so is not a much convincing answer to justify it. militart vehicule ethusiast will find it fun certainly because they have the chance to play as their favourite vehicules or those who arent in game certainly hope they get added to the game but i would compare to battlefield and its replayability, all the battles are not really the same unlike World of tanks, the tank battles are way more realistic and in better graphics imo, which makes it prettier when you blow up a tank in a single shot at 1.7km away and watch the explosion at the distance is something we all going to enjoy for sure Q -> You need to pay money to progress at a reasonable rate A -> Neutral - i was between this and somewhat agree i would say yes but the game doesnt force you to pay in any moment, in fact, you want to pay because you want to reach certain level as fast as possible and because you want to Also the events helps a lot, they can give a vehicule with premium bonuses and is not half bad in the game and then you have 2 options, you use it for help your grind or you can sell it at the market place and get some free money (as ridicule as it sounds) to use it in anything related to the game because events are free (except in your time and soul) If you are in console, you have no other choice than to use it since theres no market in console yet Q -> Arcade is a good gamemode A -> Somewhat agree Arcade, as said, is a good introduccion to understand the mechanics of the game and then step up but as a regular gamemode is up to the player, i used to play arcade a lot and was a great experience, but now days i use my experience in arcade to make the event tasks ASAP Reminder it has even more gamemodes than ground realistic and naval Q -> Helicopters were a good addition to the game A -> Somewhat agree Certainly many players dont like helis except for the players who does like it. For me are just a level up in warfare, the combined arms, it starts at 8.0 where the helicopters are starting to show and with cold war tanks where the helis where introduced for warfare duty and those who have 10km rocket range, well it is frustrating to get killed by an enemy you cant see and no means to defend yourself but thats the way it is, thats why we have SPAAGs and planes to deal with the problem Now i wont get into the specs for certain anti tank weapons since that info is not available for the normal people so we cant really verify if that missile has 10km range or not Q -> Close Air Support is a good thing in tank battles A -> Agree as i said in the previous question CAS along side helicopters are the same, and is another tier in the warfare of combined arms, the ability to comunicate with a friendly plane and drop some bombs are a position where the enemy is heavily fortified is an example that push towards teamplay (although we know that rarely happens and the enemy can use the same thing but thats warfare after all) and we have means to countering it, SPAAs, heck even your tank will prob have machineguns to shoot at them or even use your cannon, might be not as effective still can take down planes right? Q -> Naval is fun A -> Strongly Agree I have high hopes for naval, as me, im a naval enthusiast and an IJN enjoyer, sure the slow battles might be boring at some point but is just the way naval warfare is, you shoot, watch your shots and splash hit splash splash over and over and with no healthbars and no fancy unrealistic camouflages with details that are unsuitable for a warship I have top tier japan for naval, Hyuuga is increadibly fun and i can finally revenge on those americans who frustrated me when the Brooklyn was top tier back then and if i see an american ship i have no meanings in leave it alive untill is fully under the waves, and great shot out to Naval Enduring Confrontation to come back, THAT is the perfect gamemode for naval Q -> Events are too tedious A -> Agree Yes they are, one rewards skill, while other rewards time play, but the rewards one might be much more frustrating, the one that requires time, it requires too much time although they are the same task and you can prepare mentaly and organize yourself it will still be some pain in the ass, especially those ones that requires help of teammates For get the Object 279 i had to stay the whole night playing for 3 times But seeing the good side, you can do as i said in question Nº2, use the FREE vehicule at your adventage, use it for grind or to get some money Q -> The game is dying A-> Disagree War Thunder has a lot of potential and yes the decisions gaijin does towards the game are really questionable but at the end of the day we keep playing it, it has a great replayability and offers a great performance even for not powerfull enough PCs that increases its number of players, they could grow more by listening more the community but also advertising it, remember the 'Victory is ours'? add? its great or 'the battle is on' if they had the money to do those once they were less popular, now that they are popular and with a much bigger budget, they can afford do this again Heck they even helped funding a movie '28's panfilov' or something certainly the game is not dying
You have to pay if you want high tier. You can reasonably get to about 6.7 without needed any premiums or buying anything. But after that, the grind really just becomes unfun and really tedious
Yep, started playing on PS4, and then transferred my account to PC when I got the chance. I've been suggested to just restart and use a Steam/Gaijin account, but Im content with where I am
I've been playing since early 2013 and would say these are my responses: 1. Agree (The game can be a bust but if you find the area you enjoy, the mechanics and gameplay styles make a varied and interesting experience.) 2. Strongly Agree (Premium time is a requirement. The game is a yearly subscription.) 3. Agree (I don't know what people find so horrible about Arcade. I don't really play it myself, but sometimes if I dip down in BR I really have some fun with it.) 4. Somewhat Agree (At the beginning of their life, the helicopters were obscene. Nowadays, we have SPAA that easily counter anything you'll be seeing, as well as relatively cheap air superiority jets in case you're that upset.) 5. Agree (I enjoy CAS in GRB. I enjoy killing people with it, and I enjoy shooting them down. Having a good SPAA in your lineup is essential for having fun with the game. However, I will acknowledge that it is very frustrating to be denied a good match because of something largely out of your control. However, CAS also clears up campers and other types of vehicles, and can also pose as air superiority in order to deny the enemy the ability to kill you. It creates a varied environment and keeps you aware and active.) 6. Neutral (I have had fun in naval. I've also had my mind explode from boredom. I have made it to battleships without a premium boat, but with premium time. Fighting Helena spam will always suck.) 7. Agree (Everyone knows events are tedious. That is the point of them. The purpose of a company is to generate income in order to sustain themselves. Events are purpose built to be tedious, in order to encourage you to spend GE on tasks you don't want to complete.) 8. Strongly Disagree (The game grows every day, and now expanding into more modern areas, it will continue to do so. High rank premiums allow for availability of everyone to play the game, no matter what era of vehicles they care about.)
I think the people who say naval is bad just never dedicated anything to it, if you have your crew upgraded slightly they hit like lasers or base AA, when i was on my ship, i once said ''Hit it joe'' as a joke, and exactly then it shot down a plane
Playing since 2017 In my experience the longer and better you play, the more uptier you get, i am currently at 26k games with over 50k kills and these days all I get is full uptier, i can play 6.0, full uptier to 7.0, but when i go to 7.0 as it always seems to get downtier, i get uptier to 8.0, and it is like that for every br for me. Cas and revenge killing is a major issue as if someone even does a little to get sp, they can get a plane with a full load of bombs and as soon as you kill them, they come back in a plane and normally go right for you, many times than not a kamikaze attack. Events are becoming harder and harder to do for people who don't have much time. P2w is getting worse and worse, gaijin has shown us where their priority is and that is money over their players happiness, for example there is a lot of under brd vehicles which are way too good for their rank, for example, the 2s38, 9.7, better than both the hstvl and the otomatic combined at a much lower br, su25 same deal, a5c, same deal. Another issue which not many talk about is their chat ban system, they seem to not understand that it is a war game, people will of course be more aggressive and because they allow us to curse, of course people are going to rage at others, we should not be getting banned for what is technically a feature. The players no longer have a voice, gaijin is refusing to listen to their players especially now, the biggest issue is their up/down br system which they base souly on stats. Stats are really invalid now as we have new players at top tier that have little to no experience in the game so they will obviously do bad, they need to hear and consider the feedback from more skilled players as they know what they are actually talking about and have seen most of these vehicles first person. Nuclear sun, dont have to say anything on that, everyone understands. Map design. Gaijins map design has barely changed, the majority of maps its whoever gets into the right spot first, shoots into the enemy spawn, or just shoot from one spawn to the other as soon as you spawn in which is ridiculous. Electric vehicles Invisible vehicles Team kill punishment is not enough No punishment for afk or barely active players. Custom battles, there should be an option to make a group vote to kick someone from the server, many customs people are just trying to chill and interact with other players then some asshole comes along and starts shooting everyone or ramming people because they find it funny to ruin the enjoyment of other players. Drones, giant mistake. Nowhere is safe now, with scout drones you can be constantly marked to the enemy, for ground vehicles its fine, but the fact it marks the spot for air just makes cas that much worse, on top of the cas part with the strike drones it costs less than a fully armed plane so people take those out to get revenge especially because they have thermal sights so they can see everything. That’s just PvP multiplayer games in general, but War Thunder especially

We need more participants! Greater sample - better accuracy.
OK, I'll try to give my answers on these questions
Q: Is War Thunder fun
A: Neutral - depends really on what you're playing, if you are playing like up to rank IV, it is fun to play, but if you go above that, you'll start facing ATGM's, helicopters, jet aircraft etc. and it starts to be pain in that moment, especially when there are some maps where you can't even go anywhere, since they are very big and open and it's just ATGM's firing across the whole map and killing everything, but yes, lower tiers are fun
Q: You need to pay money to progress at a reasonable rate
A: Strongly agree - I've been playing War Thunder since September 2014 and that was time when I was still a kid with no money, so I couldn't buy any premium stuff and I was also playing arcade for very long time, because I found RB too hard at that time.
Q: Arcade is good gamemode
A: Agree - As I've mentioned above, you won't grind too far with them, but they are good way to grind events, battlepass etc. It's usually much easier to do event tasks in arcade than in RB
Q: Helicopters were a good addition to the game
A: Strongly disagree - It sounds fun on the paper, but it's much different in the actual game.
Q: CAS is good in tank battless
A: Strongly disagree - It's fun for the ones who are in the planes, but not for the ones on the ground.
Q: Naval is fun
A: Neutral - haven't played much naval stuff, I tried to play few battles when they came out and I wasn't really impressed, idk how are they now, since I haven't played them since then.
Q: Events are too tedious
A: Strongly agree - Most of the events are pretty long and hard.
Q: The game is dying
A: Strongly disagree - Even tho War Thunder has a tons of problems, it's not really dying.
I`m too lazy to read that but here`s my like
honestly cas is for people like me who grinded out the planes first
war thunder is definitely dying
it's getting more unbalanced and people are leaving
War thunder seems to be having less active players than before, but its the only game I know with tanks and planes fighting together in my radar. I don't really see any Wargaming franchises (like WoT) compare to it especially Wargaming's habits today which really took the cake and made me leave my 6 year journey with their games :/ and now I play War Thunder again almost every single day :D
It would be also an interesting idea to find people who only play specific nations or that have a specific nation as a main. And then ask them questions about the game and see whether or not the nation of their choosing influences their answer's in some way.
They've got one ironic wehraboo on the show, I think that's enough for German mains. Time to get the Freeaboos and the Type 10 simps!

The CAS planes & jets watching all 4 of them to make them agree with the statement:
With World of Tanks, and now War Thunder as my main games I play, I have what seems like an infinity of different things to play.
i cant choose wat i want to play, if i go to ground rb to play some tank, im forced into AA by cas. were ground only mode
Actually found this really interesting and would love a part 2. Would be nice to see a wider range of players in part 2 such as arcade, realistic, sim, newer and older players to see what results that could lead to.

You're young, but somehow already gigachad
In addition to the longtimer views, I’d try to get a few very new players as well. The New Player Experience in WT is… lacking.

I'm just picturing each respondent as actually sitting in the commander's seat of their tanks and talking over the radio

Japan at 6.7 and 6.3 with HEATFS is just sweet. STA3s and stuff can just cleave through armour of all sort.
There's tanks at 5.7 with HEATFS with the m36B1 (italy) having a 90mm HEATFS.
Germany gets them at 6.3 with their bulldog (76mm HEATFS) and the JPZ-4-5 (90mm HEATFS) britain also has 6.0 HEATFS with the ratel-90
And I don't think I need to mention all the italian HEATFS slingers, we all know them.
Or just think of this, a tanks only mode
doesnt matter they are squishy, they get the first shot, u ded

I will definitely make a part 2, this video seems to be pretty well received
-Arcade is good gamemode
Strongly Agree: Air AB is way more fun than Air RB from my experience, Ground and Ship AB are still ok.
-Helicopters were a good addition to the game
Strongly Disagree: Cancer. I would rather die twice to a plane than once to some heli sitting 10km away. It's better than it used to be but they're still annoying. They are one of the main reasons why top tier is cancer. Only good thing they bring to the game is satisfation of killing them.
-CAS is good in tank battless
Agree: It might be annoying sometimes but it's fun to do and it has its counters (other planes, SPAAs or gravity). Revenge CAS is the biggest problem but it's rare if you don't sit in one place all the time.
-Naval is fun
Neutral: I had some fun in it but I'm not planning to play it anyrime soon, and its economy is awful.
-Events are too tedious
Agree: Not strongly agree only because I never want to unlock all avalible vehicles, just one or two at most.
-The game is dying
Disagree: State of the game used to be better but I don't see it dying anytime soon unless there will be some sudden competition.
i disagree with u on CAS, its pure cancer, helis are much more cancer tho, but im not playing tank gamemode to be bombed, if air exists, why can ground exist alone?
I really like the format. Great video
Thanks
The fact the guy who spent 3k on it actually like the game doesn't surprise me
I'm a f2p since 2014(on and off) I just hit the AV8 while grinding a bit in other countries at the same time, Just Mastering the Vehicles i have has kept me entertained all this time
About CAS, for Jan's point, Gaijin knows how to implement it, because they have it in Enlisted, where they only allow 2 vehicles of each type at a time.
I really like this concept applied to war thunder and the execution too. However I'm quite Fuelphobic (sorry Fuel, I don't like ptw people. Just stick to low tier)
maybe
Yeah
I have nothing against the guy
But, idk, it seems like, his opinion doesnt really count as he has just payed what other people have to play to get
I guarantee you I have put more hours into the game than 90% of players.

Can you please do a part 2?
I want to ask why there are not many Britain tank players at 6.0 and under,
So many times I go into a match and be the only Britain tank player, but there is so much USA,Germany and Russia.
That is satisfying
Thanks great vid! Fun to hear all the different accents 👌
Glad you enjoyed the video. And yep, part 2 will definitely happen sometime in the future.
I've been playing since may 2015, nothing but RB. And its been nothing but a beatiful numb pain.
22:05 my favorite part is how the maus just kept going and went off screen
I guess I'll drop some of my own view to these same questions and leave some questions for a thought.
I have played the game since it was in Open Beta back in either March or April of 2013, and my hours on Steam are recorded as 3055.4 + hrs for the game as of now; obviously less than actual hours as it wasn't on steam back then.
Q: War Thunder is fun
A: Somewhat Agree - It can be fun when you aren't being too serious.
Q: You need to pay money to progress at a reasonable rate
A: Strongly Agree - After you research Rank 2 vehicles, the long grind kinda begins at Rank 3 as I had learned grinding rank 3 US and Russian tanks where the best as a F2P player you can achieve for vehicles is at least a 2k RP a match to unlock some vehicles; and of course with the randomness matches can be, it can cause some discouragement. Though it is at that point where caring about it really should not be something a F2P player should care until they have about 2-1k RP left. And of course if you are playing vehicles that aren't within the ranks for efficient RP gains to the next vehicle you are researching, getting ~1K RP is essentially a good match.
Q: Arcade is a good game mode
A: Agree - Although I mostly play Tank RB nowadays, I would be lying if Arcade didn't provide the fun aspects most people actually want, especially in Air Battles.
Q: Helicopters were a good addition to the game
A: Neutral - I haven't played any tiers with Helicopters admittedly.
Q: Close Air Support is a good thing in tank battles
A: Disagree - Admittedly I have strong mix feelings towards CAS.
Q: Naval is fun
A: Neutral - Naval has some potential however I just can not bring myself to play the game due to many factors such as long queue times as I wasn't playing it back when it first came out, and the ship type split furthered that issue.
Q: Events are too tedious
A: Strongly Agree - I had felt this way even before I got a job where I had all the free time in the world.
Q: The Game is dying
A: Agree - I don't expect the game to die anytime soon, but some of Gaijin's changes are certainly speeding up its death toll.

I'm a new player and just got to rank 3 in America and Germany, and I'm already fed up, hell at this point GTA is a better combat sim for me.
@@stinkycat3137 then go back to gta dying to your flying bikes and getting sniped from space.
Pilot personalities, or why I hate CAS in general -
The revenge bomber [air spawn YEET by the guy you just outplayed]
The high altitude sweating cock [abuses meta to shred teams two minutes into match]
The lawn dart [torpedoes plane into you to ensure kill]
Mr. My team doesn't matter, ignore the objectives for stats [also up within two minutes]
Wallet Plane [often useless player that feeds other team, or is one of the above] 2 death leaves
"Just play AA" guy [any of the above, insults you for being bad in M42, says it is great, then when goaded out of plane into M42 he pulls goose eggs]
It's almost like having air spawns, full kill cams, OP pressure, early game spawn allowance, double score gains over tanks, low SP cost, allowing strategic bombers [F*ing Pe8 scum], and not having cockpit lock in tank RB is a bad idea that facilitates mouse aim laser pointer cheesing...
Different opinion on what?
no shit. a person dat constantly kills tanks in cas obviously would strongly agree in "CAS is gud". CAS is a fuking cancer and gaijin doesnt do shit about it.
Don't worry that'll probably be the next part i guess
I agree with the guy in the maus, its a pain to get tanks higher than rank 3.
I started playing back in 2012. It's fun seeing how y'all newer players see the game
Like you can select each mode or combine it like for Example
1. WW2 era + Cold War Era
2. Modern era itself.
3. All of the Era
Warthunder players think?
Yeah I know right, never thought they did.
6:19 Totally agree with it. Once I got uptiered by a m3 Bradley at 7.0 .

I actually migrated over to WT from WoT, played arcade for a bit, then decided, to give realistic a try.
BEST. DECISION. EVER.
You should do more of these q&as because it's good to see more questions answered.
My only thing about
“Do you have to pay to progress in war thunder”
I havnt spent a dime on anything other then when I had a 50% coupon for the panzer IV G for Italy
And by that point I had already got my 5.0 Sherman firefly
So the panzer 4 was really just to take advantage of the sale and coupon I got
I’m about 500hrs in (something like 470 something)
And rank 29 I believe
And I don’t struggle at all to progress
I got America and France up to rank 3 in both air and ground
Italy to rank 6 on ground and rank 5 on air
There are times I really want to get a premium, or buy a bunch of stuff
But honestly, I don’t need to, it’s more of a completionist thing for me then anything
I really don’t think you need to pay to have fun or even to progress fairly quick
Maybe I’m just better then the average player and that’s why?
But I doubt it lol
Just my 2 cents
Yeah if you just play for fun and not play for hours at a time you tend to be a happier person
@@fuel147 yeah, and play at different BR’s if you are having a bad time

maus: lemme just ...get out of the screen because i hate events..
Love the decal on the side of Jan's tank
22:10 the player count is currently higher than ever
I think that this is interesting but it really only covers a group that has played for 3-6 years and mainly tanks. The questions aren't really hard-hitting either. I think a series of polls with explanations from a couple people with each standpoint would be more useful.
In this game the fun is from 2.0 to 6.3/7
If you want to go beyond that it's -Time consuming/unfun most of the time/expesive in SL & (if you can) in GE/the steep learning curve to air battle when you get your first jets won't help/the helicopter ( gaijin why ? ) and too much to be remembered .
And even if you get to the rank 7 and got your dreamed 11.0 you will just find yourself playing lower br most of the time (or customs battles)
Im playing since 2013 and it's what i've learned.
I've been playing for exactly 8245.8 hours according to steam, i started in 2017 right after the Katyusha event (so mad i wasnt there in time) but thats the time i changed to PC
i played in PS4 around 2016
so i can certainly give some opinions and answer some of the question if not all of them
Q -> War Thunder is fun?
A-> Agree.
as many have said if you have friends everything is more enjoyable, that not just to apply to War Thunder but to all games so is not a much convincing answer to justify it.
militart vehicule ethusiast will find it fun certainly because they have the chance to play as their favourite vehicules or those who arent in game certainly hope they get added to the game
but i would compare to battlefield and its replayability, all the battles are not really the same unlike World of tanks, the tank battles are way more realistic and in better graphics imo, which makes it prettier when you blow up a tank in a single shot at 1.7km away and watch the explosion at the distance is something we all going to enjoy for sure
Q -> You need to pay money to progress at a reasonable rate
A -> Neutral - i was between this and somewhat agree
i would say yes but the game doesnt force you to pay in any moment, in fact, you want to pay because you want to reach certain level as fast as possible and because you want to
Also the events helps a lot, they can give a vehicule with premium bonuses and is not half bad in the game and then you have 2 options, you use it for help your grind or you can sell it at the market place and get some free money (as ridicule as it sounds) to use it in anything related to the game because events are free (except in your time and soul)
If you are in console, you have no other choice than to use it since theres no market in console yet
Q -> Arcade is a good gamemode
A -> Somewhat agree
Arcade, as said, is a good introduccion to understand the mechanics of the game and then step up but as a regular gamemode is up to the player, i used to play arcade a lot and was a great experience, but now days i use my experience in arcade to make the event tasks ASAP
Reminder it has even more gamemodes than ground realistic and naval
Q -> Helicopters were a good addition to the game
A -> Somewhat agree
Certainly many players dont like helis except for the players who does like it. For me are just a level up in warfare, the combined arms, it starts at 8.0 where the helicopters are starting to show and with cold war tanks where the helis where introduced for warfare duty and those who have 10km rocket range, well it is frustrating to get killed by an enemy you cant see and no means to defend yourself but thats the way it is, thats why we have SPAAGs and planes to deal with the problem
Now i wont get into the specs for certain anti tank weapons since that info is not available for the normal people so we cant really verify if that missile has 10km range or not
Q -> Close Air Support is a good thing in tank battles
A -> Agree
as i said in the previous question CAS along side helicopters are the same, and is another tier in the warfare of combined arms, the ability to comunicate with a friendly plane and drop some bombs are a position where the enemy is heavily fortified is an example that push towards teamplay (although we know that rarely happens and the enemy can use the same thing but thats warfare after all) and we have means to countering it, SPAAs, heck even your tank will prob have machineguns to shoot at them or even use your cannon, might be not as effective still can take down planes right?
Q -> Naval is fun
A -> Strongly Agree
I have high hopes for naval, as me, im a naval enthusiast and an IJN enjoyer, sure the slow battles might be boring at some point but is just the way naval warfare is, you shoot, watch your shots and splash hit splash splash over and over and with no healthbars and no fancy unrealistic camouflages with details that are unsuitable for a warship
I have top tier japan for naval, Hyuuga is increadibly fun and i can finally revenge on those americans who frustrated me when the Brooklyn was top tier back then and if i see an american ship i have no meanings in leave it alive untill is fully under the waves, and great shot out to Naval Enduring Confrontation to come back, THAT is the perfect gamemode for naval
Q -> Events are too tedious
A -> Agree
Yes they are, one rewards skill, while other rewards time play, but the rewards one might be much more frustrating, the one that requires time, it requires too much time
although they are the same task and you can prepare mentaly and organize yourself it will still be some pain in the ass, especially those ones that requires help of teammates
For get the Object 279 i had to stay the whole night playing for 3 times
But seeing the good side, you can do as i said in question Nº2, use the FREE vehicule at your adventage, use it for grind or to get some money
Q -> The game is dying
A-> Disagree
War Thunder has a lot of potential and yes the decisions gaijin does towards the game are really questionable but at the end of the day we keep playing it, it has a great replayability and offers a great performance even for not powerfull enough PCs that increases its number of players, they could grow more by listening more the community but also advertising it, remember the 'Victory is ours'? add? its great or 'the battle is on' if they had the money to do those once they were less popular, now that they are popular and with a much bigger budget, they can afford do this again
Heck they even helped funding a movie '28's panfilov' or something
certainly the game is not dying
You have to pay if you want high tier. You can reasonably get to about 6.7 without needed any premiums or buying anything. But after that, the grind really just becomes unfun and really tedious
Glad to see Bag is a fellow console version player like me
Yep, started playing on PS4, and then transferred my account to PC when I got the chance.
I've been suggested to just restart and use a Steam/Gaijin account, but Im content with where I am
I've been playing since early 2013 and would say these are my responses:
1. Agree (The game can be a bust but if you find the area you enjoy, the mechanics and gameplay styles make a varied and interesting experience.)
2. Strongly Agree (Premium time is a requirement. The game is a yearly subscription.)
3. Agree (I don't know what people find so horrible about Arcade. I don't really play it myself, but sometimes if I dip down in BR I really have some fun with it.)
4. Somewhat Agree (At the beginning of their life, the helicopters were obscene. Nowadays, we have SPAA that easily counter anything you'll be seeing, as well as relatively cheap air superiority jets in case you're that upset.)
5. It creates a varied environment and keeps you aware and active.)
6. Neutral (I have had fun in naval. I've also had my mind explode from boredom. I have made it to battleships without a premium boat, but with premium time. Fighting Helena spam will always suck.)
7. Agree (Everyone knows events are tedious. That is the point of them. The purpose of a company is to generate income in order to sustain themselves. Events are purpose built to be tedious, in order to encourage you to spend GE on tasks you don't want to complete.)
8. Strongly Disagree (The game grows every day, and now expanding into more modern areas, it will continue to do so. High rank premiums allow for availability of everyone to play the game, no matter what era of vehicles they care about.)
"the game is dying"
Maus has seen so much he just left the argument
I have none of the experience they've had with CAS, it's nearly always a pain.
I think the people who say naval is bad just never dedicated anything to it, if you have your crew upgraded slightly they hit like lasers or base AA,
when i was on my ship, i once said ''Hit it joe'' as a joke, and exactly then it shot down a plane
Playing since 2017
In my experience the longer and better you play, the more uptier you get, i am currently at 26k games with over 50k kills and these days all I get is full uptier, i can play 6.0, full uptier to 7.0, but when i go to 7.0 as it always seems to get downtier, i get uptier to 8.0, and it is like that for every br for me.
Electric vehicles
Invisible vehicles
Team kill punishment is not enough
No punishment for afk or barely active players.
Thats all i can think of for now as im on 2 hours of sleep, may edit later on if i have more, o7.
well , if you do one of those again in the future , and would like to se some players that have played for even longuer , i can propose misself (playing since 2013 , when the first 2 ground tree's came out , but only started playing "seriously" since early 2019 , for technical reasons , not just me not wanting to play)
(also im not on your discord right now , because i never go on discord serveur specific to a youtuber , the only 2 serveur that im into are football ones , or soccer , if your american)
Kind of expected a "does germany suffer?" Question
