This is absolutely a beautiful pattern, and I can’t get over how easy it is. Your tip about threading the yarn needle is priceless! Going to start my project now with a beautiful red wool yarn, can’t wait! Thank you!
Just made this and it turned out great!! Instead of snipping the tail, I wrapped it around the scrunched part and tied a knot at the back. Thank you for the tutorial 🙏🏻

Oh my stars! LOVE this pattern! Can’t wait to start making for my basket of holiday cheer giveaways! Just finished my 2nd one! Works up so fast! This is a keeper for sure. I’m going to experiment in different textures and see what happens, wish me luck!
@@WindingRoadCrochetI do have a slight concern. I measured my head and it was 23 in so I did the 71 starting stitches. It only reached about temple to temple on me so I undid it and added 3 at a time (because you had us add an extra three each time on the wrist warmers for the pattern) And I ended up needing 101 starting stitches. I'm not sure if this was a tension issue? On the wrist warmers I did the starting 35 and it was perfect. I'm using the red heart super saver favorite stripe, medium 4 with a 5mm hook. Either way, absolutely love it! It looks beautiful and I'm already getting a lot of compliments.
I am glad they were helpful. I try to add more sizes in the video when possible. Sometimes I just add 2 sizes when the pattern has 8 size options. It just depends on how simple or complex the sizing is.

Or how can i make sure I reach the correct 'amount' of sticth to do the 3 left, do the last one sc-dc-dc? ETA: reading the comments further, it should be multiples of 3, right?
@@WindingRoadCrochet thanks for the reply! Just made one yesterday with some leftover yarn from your Hooded Wanderers Scarf project and it came our great! You do great work!
I do not. I will look into what stitches it uses. I want to use a lot of patterns this year to make sets, like ear warmer, scarf, hat and fingerless gloves that all use the same stitch.
Have you ever made this into different colors? I’m curious how that would look or what would be best if I wanted to try that. I’m thinking college colors for my kid that just went off to college.
I have not but what I would do is work the first few rows and the last few rows in one color and work the middle color in another color. That would look lovely.
Hello! Love this pattern, little question tho, should the first chain be the size of my head ? I’m using a different yarn size so just to be sure that my measurements are right ! Will of course adapt to get 3+1, but as a rule should the first chain be the size of my head ? Thanks a lot !
Yes, kind of. What I would do is start with a chain that is the side of your head. Then after you complete row 1, I would measure the piece and see what size it is. You are looking for about 1-2 inches less than the size of your head because the project will stretch.
To reach the same gauge you will need to use a very small hook. It would be better to just use the pattern as a guideline and modify the starting chain and the rows you use as you go.
The pattern is really pretty even though I’m a beginner. But now I’m struggling with whip stitch part. I don’t know where to join😅 I’m not sure if I’m connecting right parts😂😂😂
I’m not sure but I made it anyway! I made it with hot pink yarn! It’s really cute! This one is a little bit loose, so I should’ve done three less chains or something? (I’m not English speaker, so hope this is not rude)
The pattern is lovely. Love the beautiful modified mile a minute stitch. However for an infant and for a toddler, five rows (rows 5-10) is way too wide for their head.
Thanks for sharing! My daughter is a preschooler now and her head is just a bit smaller than mine. I used to use her as my gauge for a toddler. I don't have a infant right now, but I will have one in a few weeks!!
I was wondering about this. I’m not actually worried about the width so much as how small it looks, circumference wise. My 3 month old is a big baby and normal baby hat patterns don’t even fit her head. Maybe I’ll wrap the starting chain around her head to see if it fits first and add to it from there? This pattern is so cute and easy
I am going to say 80-160. It is actually unlike me to not have the estimated yarn amounts listed in the written pattern. Either 80 yards works for all sizes or there wasn't a huge yarn requirement difference, but it seems a little low in my opinion.
Get tutorial. Easy to follow along. My only advice to someone who is make this would be to measure the head of the person who will be wearing the head band first. Make the chain length to match the person head size.
I agree about measuring the head size, but I would choose the closest chain number listed to meet that size. There is a specific stitch count needed for this pattern.
I mean that the pattern is the same for rows 5-10. It is just an easy way to say that you work the same row 6 times. Another way to say it, is to repeat row 5 until you have a total of 10 rows in the project.
I did 68 chains for an adult head, but after the first row, it's very very short. Are the 68 chains for the width and not the length? I'm just a little confused.
68 chain is for the length (circumference). Did you check your gauge? If your gauge is too tight then the pattern will come out small. The gauge is listed under the material list that is shown in the first minute of the video. You might need to move up a hook size to achieve the correct gauge. I would also check to make sure you are using a category weight #4 yarn. This can also be called worsted weight, aran and double knit (I believe). the wrong yarn weight can make a huge difference. A category #3 weight yarn is half the thickness of a #4 and could potentially make an ear warmer that is half the size that is should be. The adult ear warmer should be about 17 inches around after completing row 1 and will fit a head that is 19-21 inches in circumference.
@@WindingRoadCrochet thank you for replying quickly. I'm using a size 6 mediim yarn (yarn bee breathe deep yarn), but I upped the hook by two sizes than the one recommended for the size 4 yarn. Should I be using an even bigger hook?
You need to check your gauge to decide which hook size to use. When you work row 1, every 4 stitches should measure 1 inch. You don't have to even work the entire row. Just work about 8 stitches and then measure how long the middle 4 stitches are. Gauge is controlled by your tension on the yarn and that is very unique to everyone.
I made mine too tight and I can't even put it on! (or maybe I just have a fat head 😂) is there anything I can do to make it looser or do I have to make another?
I would first take it off and see if you can stretch it a little bit by hand to make it fit. Yarn gets stretched out over time and often something that fits perfectly on day 1 will be too big later. If that doesn't work then you will need to make a new one.
Just wondering if anybody else found the sizes a bit small? I made the xl or large adult, and got a few of my colleagues to try it, and they all found it too tight.
The big question would be, di you check you gauge? The gauge upstretched is 4 stitches equals 1 inch. If you crochet tighter than that, then the earwarmer will end up tighter than what the pattern states.
You might crochet tighter than I do. Did you check your gauge. 4 single crochet stitches should be 1 inch wide. If the gauge matches than 62 chains should be approximately 15.5 inches wide before it stretches.
I like to wrap a ribbon measuring tape (tailor's measuring tape) around your head to get the measurement. If you don't have one, you can use a piece of ribbon and then lay the ribbon flat and measure it with a ruler. I wrap it around my head long where the brim of a hat would be.

Thank you for the video. Although I found that even though I did enough chains for an adult size the end product was child size. What did I do wrong?
Did you check your gauge? My best guess is that you simply crochet tighter than I do and you need to use a larger hook to meet the gauge.

Yes try moving up a hook size.
What ply wool would I use for the baby one please
10 ply
can we do foundation chains for these headbands or do i have to chain
Yes you can do a foundation row. You want to work 1 less stitch than the foundation chain.
J'adooore ! 💕
Thanks
How I would I make this 1 size bigger? I made one as a gift and it was just a bit too small still! I'd really appreciate it thank you 💗
To add more length add 3 chains to the starting chain. You can also add 6 chains or 9 chains depending on how much bigger you need it.
If you are using a lighter weight yarn and need more starting chain stitches, is there a certain multiple?
I believe it is a multiple of 3 + 2 for the starting chain. So the stitch count for row one is a multiple of 3+1.
Hello, I would like to crochet an ear warmer for my old dog. How many chains do I need to start? Her head to chin is around 33cm. Thank you~
it depends on your gauge. I would chain until you reach 30cm and then adjust the count to match the needed stitch count for the pattern.
thank you@@WindingRoadCrochet
I am wanting to use a 6oz bulky yarn. What hook should I use?
To reach the same gauge you will need to use a very small hook. It would be better to just use the pattern as a guideline and modify the starting chain and the rows you use as you go.
For a bigger adult can i make more than 71 chains?or is there a specific calculation i hv to follow
Yes. You want a multiple of 3 + 1.

You can add to the starting chain in multiples of 3. If 71 chains is not big enough, you can try 74 or 77 or 80 chains.

Multiple of 3 + 2 for the starting chain.

Looking at other ear warmer patterns I have, the 80 yards is enough for the large adult size.
Isn’t the foundation a half double?
It is a stitch that I refer to as the yarn over slip stitch but has also been called the half double slip stitch.
What is the secret to those yarn over slip stitches? I'm having a heck of a time pulling through the 2 loops🙁
Maybe loosen up your tension a little bit. We pull through 2-3 loops on most stitches and it shouldn't be any different than other stitches.
Maybe the type of yarn because I'm using cheap acrylic and also struggled a bit.
Get tutorial. Easy to follow along. My only advice to someone who is make this would be to measure the head of the person who will be wearing the head band first. Make the chain length to match the person head size.

I had a good laugh when I used the large adult amount of chains and it still wasn’t enough for my big head. Hilarious.
You can add chains to the length in multiples of 3. So you can add 3 additional chains, 9, 12, or 15 chains. Hopefully the added chains should help.
Thank you!
Seems a bit odd I used the same yarn same hook and same number chains for age on chart but there us now at it would ever fit
When starting with chain 68 and dropping to 67 stitches in the slip stitch rows, row 4 isn’t a multiple of 3 anymore. Did I do something wrong?
It should be a multiple of 3+1. So 67 stitches should be perfect.
❤❤
