It really is difficult to argue that any other brand of lighting in the consumer space is even close to Govee. My only complaint is that Govee doesn't like to talk as freely or easily with other standards as it should. If they adressed that issue they really would be the perfect consumer lighting choice.
I just wish they had something similar to the Lutron Aurora. It’s the one and only thing that keeps me coming back to Philips Hue EDIT: did I just see this man use an Aurora with the Govee????
Thanks for another informative video, Brian. Like others, I like Govee products and have two of their Lyra lights that I like. These folks seem to have great engineering EXCEPT when it comes to compatibility with other systems. I won't be buying any more of their products until they become natively compatible with Homekit in addition to Alexa which they've already done. It's especially frustrating to see them keep putting this off especially since there is already decent Govee compatibility through Homebridge. If users can create compatibility, why can't Govee? I'm not trying to do anything but get them moving on bringing their otherwise great products to the folks ready to buy them.
Oh! I made a video about Hue and Smartthings and a much better integration method than the normal one. I used that, through Alexa! So you can start routines with Lutron's Aurora!
I suffer from photophobia and i have trouble watching lights directly. Is the light too harsh to look at especially when all white? Thank you (sorry for my bas english since im french)
That is a very clear question! You can make this very dim even when it's white, so it's OK. However, I would suggest you use a light strip (LED Strip) behind a piece of furniture to make it easier on your eyes. :)
can these floor lamps be used as the solo and primary lighting source for a big room? 2 of them? or will the light come out the side be too harsh on the eyes?
I think they can, and I'm pretty picky about it. The lumens chart is in the video so it'll show you how bright that "point" light source would be at the source. But in general, I find that I can get it to a setting for any room to make it bright without being too distracting. That's one of the nice things about it being tall too.
@AutomateYourLife There's huge interest, but it's hard and expensive to get into. Clone hero is actually been blowing up. It's up to harmonix to do something about it.
Good review! Question... You showed how you can specify different lighting effects horizontally but is it also possible to have lighting effects vertically? For example, I want the part of the lamp which faces the wall to be as bright as possible, but the part of the lamp which is facing me (if the lamp is near a desk) to be not as bright.
This is complex to explain, but in general yes. You can do vertical patterns. The limitation that you'll run into is that you can have a single background color and brightness, and then the rest of the lamp has to be the other brightness. So I think you'll be fine!
lol you just tell her that she's wrong. These ones...they're much better than your average smart lamp or smart light. It's a great corner lamp and it does have a button to press to control. :)
Is it your money? Are you the leader of your family? Are you taking care of your family? Did she have an amazing wedding with a nice wedding ring? Then buy the fuqing lamp. Don’t forget yourself. You are a Man take control
Does it hurt your eyes when used like a lamp at brighter settings? It looks like a big LED bulb, and with any light bulb it’ll hurt your eyes to look at unless it has a diffuser around it.
HI there i have a question, i just purchased the Govee TV T3 lite backlight with the Govee Cylinder Lamp, when synching them how many zones in dreamview can be assigned to the cylinder lamp ?
Hey man, does the wire really just run along the bottom of the lamp? Does that make it seem slightly off balance? Or is there some way to tuck the wire inside? Great review as always.
It runs through the middle of the pipe. Then it comes out the bottom and the way they've built the base you can get out without making it tilt. There's room :)
At this point, it should just be a firmware change. Development timelines would suggest that Govee knows what they're doing with Matter, so that's all it should be.
I have a Govee floor lamp and I like what it can do. However, I believe there is a microphone in the switch/controller and this thing connects to WiFi. So this is now the ideal spy hardware for a Chinese company that gives us colorful lights to look at in return.
Which you could see through bandwidth used on your network. Even with heavy compression we'd see a transfer rate if anyone is listening. I don't believe the device has translation/recognition processing power either, so there isn't going to be data/text recordings sent out. This idea might be a little far fetched in relation to a lamp, but I do believe we should keep watch on things like this. So I'm not against your comment, just adding what I know about the device!
@@AutomateYourLife This could be something they only activate when needed, when they need to listen in on someone for some reason. You would not see traffic normally if that's how it works. It might even be added on demand, by selectively updating the firmware for some people only. You would not find it by reverse engineering a lamp.
Govee products do not work with samsung smarthings it s a total loss for them samsung has a lot of customers and ir s the top brand in the market myself i wont buy govee lighting because it lack smarthings

I’m just couldn’t down the days until Amazon day to buy a couple of these bad boys. Your video cemented it for me. Thanks!
I'll show you the deal too! It's a good one! 😃😃😃
Nice! I'll wait for it to come out in black. Optic White won't fit into my decor. Thanks for the review! ❤
Thanks for watching!
Agreed we need this in black
Bought it thanks to this review, keep up the good work!
Enjoy so much!

Perfect for Rock Band

Just watched, subbed and bought for prime day for $109. What is that knob you are using for control? Thanks
Sorry! What time in the video? I make a lot ;)
Thank you sir. Cheers.
Thank you sir!
Great Video! Makes me want to just get an ikea floor lamp and wrap the support pole with Govee's M1 with Matter.
Lol but you could just get this!! 🤣🤣
@@AutomateYourLife Ikea light looks better.
Can I mount the lamp shorter, for example by leaving out a tube?
I don't think so. Never tried though!
So what do you think of the MuJoy Dual-Bar RGBWW Corner Lamp? It was suggested to me on reddit when I was looking u the Govee Cylinder.
Never had it!
I have been after one of these for a while as have a few products from Govee, Unfortunately not available in the uk

I like to keep it on the lower end, but it does have a diffuser around it. That's why it's white on the exterior.
HI there i have a question, i just purchased the Govee TV T3 lite backlight with the Govee Cylinder Lamp, when synching them how many zones in dreamview can be assigned to the cylinder lamp ?
Just 1
Thanks and i guess it's a block colour and doesn't display any of those graphics like goldfish or pacman when synching to the TV ?
Between this and Lyra which would you prefer with a tv
Get the Lyra if you want to sync with a T2 backlight. Otherwise, these are the best lamp!

@TecTimmy oooh send me a link man
@@AutomateYourLife I will!
How does this compare to the Lyra, would the Cylinder light up more of the wall?
It's a very bright lamp, but it's a more concentrated area that it pushes light. The Lyra is distributed over the length of the lamp.
