This is a fantastic video! It's still extremely useful and will continue to be for years to come. Dells are very specific machines. They tend to seem overly complicated for many but they aren't. Like said in this video. The built in diagnostic program us extremely useful.

    YOU ARE THE MAN!
(actually I guess if you get tired of not getting answers from the men, ask THE WOMAN!)
Issues with my old Dell Latitude E6400/Win 7 we have "discussed", suddenly I was getting boot messages that I needed to run Smart Repair, but didn't find correctable problems.
Even going through Advance options & System Restore didn't help.
I had checked Bios Setup but didn't know how to drill down.
Thanks to you, drilled down, found SATA & checked AHCI.
    Back up & running!
Still have questions but I'll address that on the appropriate video.
    THANKS AGAIN!!!!!!!

Hi, I ran the diagnostics and it says my hard drive failed.
I then tried the F2 key but it brings me to a different looking screen without those options? Not sure if that’s just cuz I have an older model?
Is there a way for me to recover the files on my laptop still???

You could try hooking your hard drive up to an external hard drive bay. You will only be able to get the files off the hard drive if the hard drive is not too dead.

Looks like Dells are even better than you state. Yesterday, my Dell *Inspiron One 2020* had this very issue yesterday, and I turned it off in utter dismay. So, after watching your video, I figured I would give the solution a go today (just over 24 hours after the hard drive failure). Lo and behold, after I hit the power button this morning, the computer started normally as if nothing had happened! Of course, I'm delighted. But what could have caused the problem?

    • @EggheadFixers
      @EggheadFixers  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

In computers we say "if it happens once it was glitch if happens twice its a problem". Glitches are ok sometimes computers just have a one time error. It's only a problem if it keeps happening because then it could be a sign that something is failing like your operating system or Hard Drive. If it doesn't happen again it should be fine:) I'm happy to hear it fixed itself!

It is most likely that your hard drive is starting to fail which is why you can still get data off of it. So you could try reinstalling the operating system and troubleshooting it some more but you will most likely need to replace it in the not to distant future.

Long shot here. My Dell Latitude E6230 is having trouble booting. Keep saying the time of day is not set, which is easy to fix. Probably a CMOS battery? Changing the date and time wasn't really a problem. The only way to boot is to change SATA operation from RAID on to AHCI mode. The problem was that I needed to repeat this process every single time.

Run the Dell diagnostics like you see in the video. This warning you saw typically indicates the hard drive is starting to fail. Backup the entire drive (all partitions), if you haven't done it, so you can recover.

I'm having problems with my new Dell XPS 8940 purchased just 6 months ago in Dec 2021. Four months after I bought it, in Apr 2022, the hard drive failed. Shipped it back to Dell for repair. Received it 2 weeks ago. Hard drive was replaced and OS reinstalled. Now I am hearing strange noises inside the machine again, like "clunk, clunk, screech, clunk, screech". I am not a computer or tech expert. I don't build computers. So I'm trying to describe what I'm hearing as best I can. The noise seems to be coming from the front, upper part of the computer. I'm terrified to think this is another hard drive starting to fail. During the first hard drive failure/repair I asked Dell for a refund, they refused. Do these new sounds I'm now hearing sound like another HD failure to you? I don't want to go through another nightmare experience with Dell Support. If I have to do that again I'm tempted to junk this thing and take the loss of $2K rather than go through that again. Any advice you can give me would be so appreciated. Thanks very much.

Ya unfortunately that could be a hard drive problem or possibly a fan issue. That's really ridiculous that you are having that many problems with a computer that new. IF that doesn't resolve the issue then you could try reinstalling the operating system but there is very really possibility that your hard drive is starting to fail which is why it doesn't pass the diagnostic sometimes. Or attempt to repair the hdd by disassembling and spinning the platter back to put the arm back in place. At your own risk of course. Sometimes they just get stuck in place, especially in laptops, when swift movement occurs. It thinks it's been dropped and freezes the arm in place in an ATTEMPT to prevent damage to the platter where data is stored.
Hopefully that's what happened in my case 😬 Gonna find out tomorrow lol
