  • At one point in Rwanda, more grey crowned cranes were in captivity than in the wild in the country. The Rwanda Wildlife Conservation Association has changed that in recent years. For birds not able to be released into their natural habitat, a nature preserve was opened. Umusambi Village is now a place for locals and tourists to learn about the cranes. It's also where the Houston Zoo helped set up a wildlife clinic.
