@@DavidBondeDanmark another point , that your new test might help verify, is the Clippy takes 5v of plug-in power and the Zoom f2 only supplies 2.5. Someone was saying on Reddit that when they use their Dpa without enough power they need to crank the gain too high to get enough sound
To me the background sounds like distant traffic noise, not hiss from the mics. You can try to record indoor under a pile of blankets and see what noise is really from the mics.
You might be right. I tried to record in my silent living room and was not impressed. I will try what you suggest whit the blanket. That’s a good idea.
@@DavidBondeDanmark My silent living room, even at 2a.m. is definitely not silent (and I don't live in the middle of a city). But that's a good way of comparing different mics/recorders.
Seems like hum of distant sounds. I experienced similar feeling when I started recording. With microphones even quieter tham em272 I had this hum or noise. After a while I realised that this is just a mix of various distant and indistinctive sounds. Microphones are so much sensitive that the catch everything. Well, almost ;) With our ears we either do not hear it or our brains just filter out this ambient noise.
The em272's have very low self-noise but are also very sensitive. The noise sounds like traffic, which can be heard from 5 miles away in some conditions. Would be interested to hear if you've done further testing and the results. Thanks!
I think you are right. Think it boils down to that I didn’t really completely understand what 32 bit can do and what it can’t do. I have tested the setup (clippy and f2) under a huge pile of blankets as suggested. When I amplify that recording I do get a lot different kind of hiss than I this video. So you are most likely right that in this video it’s traffic or something else environmental.
@@DavidBondeDanmark Glad you were able to figure it out. Noise can be introduced when boosting the gain too much. Looking forward to seeing/hearing some of your recordings.
Any thoughts on the f2 vs f3 self noise, specifically when both work with em272? Do you think f3 is worth the extra price, assuming clippy is the only mic used?
No it’s mono and just one mic. I am just plying around with what I got. At some point I will get my self a proper stereo setup. But till then I will play with this 😊
@@DavidBondeDanmark I think this sounds like what the world sounds like! Well, what the world sounds like when I monitor on headphones, probably at too high a level for any sense of realism. It also sounds like my Clippys. Which sound pretty similiar to my more expensive mics (but not stupid expensive like any Schoeps mic for instance). The Clippys produce a little more level at very low frequencies than my other mics though, so they probably get a bit more bass roll off when I edit them than the other mics will. I reckon you can rest assured your mic and recorder are not faulty in any way!
Ya I hear the hiss. Maybe the gain is raised so high there is a noise floor
I think you are right. The gain was raised quite a bit. I got my self a portacapture x6, and i need to test it up against that.

is it stereo pair of Clippy em272 ? How did you connect ?

Tooo high! What self-noise specs zoom f2?
I don’t know. But I thought this combo would do better. I have done some other recordings this summer I will try to put together and see what happens.
I thought em272 has incredible low self noise in this price region?
Me too. Are you impressed with the noice here?
@@DavidBondeDanmark my clippy EM272 have almost none noticable self noice
I am impressed, though this is coming from someone who's not into field recording. But to me it sounds like I'm actually there. Great little mics.
The EM272 is noted for its' remarkable lack of noise!
That was my understanding as well. The f2 should also have low noice. So what do you think when you hear this?
