After being an admirer of A. Lange & Söhne for almost two decades, I finally took the plunge on an ALS watch this past Friday. I don't think I've ever been this happy with any other watch that I own. The movement is just breathtaking.
I started collecting watches because of lange. After observing how they show something so complex (back) through something so simple (front), I began to view watch as an art, not merely a tool. I hope to own 1815 thin honeygold someday.
Me too !!! I still have the catalogue from 2004, but at the time, however, she was simply beyond my financial reach. But hopefully "times" changed ;)). Love the 1815 series !!!
Lange's Honeygold is an absolutely beautiful color of gold. I'm normally not a fan of precious metal cases as I tend to be a bit rough on watches (though not as bad as when I was much younger), but a Lange in Honeygold is the one brand of gold watch I have on my list of grail watches.
If you want to announce to the world you are "back" then do it with a masterpiece. But more than that, it opened our collective eyes. I will never find this kind of money for a watch but will forever appreciate it.
A. Lange & Söhne is the greatest Brand in my opinion! And I prefer the 1815 Chronograph, even they are famous for their Panorama Date with 2 Disks on the Dategraph. Loved the video 💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼
All good things are just prohibitively expensive Teddy. The Langa 1 or the Breguet Traditional with retrograde Date, both for circa $40k. All I can say is I hate what I like and I like what I hate… as usual, great content Teddy
You just have to look for something similar but more affordable. People sometimes give the advice of saving until you can buy what you want instead of buying now a cheaper alternative, but some price points that advice doesnt apply. I mean even though I can put together the money, Im still completely uncomfortable buying a 40k watch, let alone wearing it anywhere outside my home. In the end, I love Lange 1, especially for being an asymmetrical yet still beautiful dial, but I still went with a G.O. Panomatic Lunar, which is another great German watch, but for less than a 1/4 of the price. Wearing A Lange & Sohne may not attract criminals immediately the way Rolex, Patek, AP, and Richard Mille all do, but in terms of quality and resale value they are definitely on the same tier of watches as those 4, and its only a matter of time before watch robbers recognize that as well. Its still a risk to wear them all the same unless you have personal security.

If it was up to my brain, I’ll be content with just about anything on my wrist as long as it show time with decent accuracy.
For anyone who I encounter who is a neophyte to the world of watch collecting, I always mention A. Lange & Söhne. Most of them give me a confused look because, being new to the world of luxury watches, most have never heard of the brand. I just tell them to trust me, and go look up some videos on A. Lange & Söhne, and specifically videos that are filmed so well, like the ones on Teddy's channel. As soon as they watch those videos about Lange they always come back as if they had an epiphany. They finally found what horological perfection, which transcends hype, truly looks like.
I personally love this kind of video. It shows your passion for the hobby and craft, it tells a story that helps us learn more about the brands, and it’s an absolutely stunning watch. Sure, it’s out of reach for most of us. But it can be something we strive for, or just admire for its beauty
I have this watch in yellow gold since four years and wear it several times a week… It just does not get boring. Also, it is really robust for a dress watch… Somehow it feels more substantial than my Patek. Never had any technical issue with it. Definitely a purchasing recommendation for the viewers. I absolutely agree with you ! I have very beautiful and more expensive watches like mb&f, F.P. Journe etc. But: If I could just keep one watch, it would be my Lange1, white gold with antrazit dial; called the "grey wolf" and for me just the best combination as the indexes and hands are also in white gold and really shines out. And, as I learned in a very good article from the "a collected man" (for me THE horological rabbit-hole), everything on this dial is in the "golden ratio", which means, as you explained, in the perfect proportions. I like that you actually give your unabashed opinion here! The Lange 1 is one of the best dress watches on the market. Patek is great also, but Lange redefined luxury in their own way. They arrived on the scene with a storied history and a chip on their shoulders. Simply put they demanded to be seen and heard. Sadly, the Lange 1 moonphase is the last watch on my list to collect. I kept putting it off and now everyone knows how good it is! Great video but it also makes me sad that it is becoming a popular model! When acquired it will be the youngest “iconic” watch in my watchbox.

For me the most desireable Dress watches at that price point ( possibly at any price point ) are the ALS Lange 1, the H.Moser Endeavour Perpetual Calendar or the Laurent Ferrier Galet with the natural escapement. All beautiful and all with legitimate claims to greatness. Great Video.
One thing that puzzled me. A. Lange spend so much time building it. Spend time finishing parts. Made decision to use display case back. Consumers spend so much money obtain it. Then they show us a movt with most of the components covered up. Why? With display caseback we want to see more!

Great video, great research material! Lange finally getting the recognition it deserves. I am glad it will not be over-hyped like other brands and still value for the quality it offers. There is no hiding about it's finest craftsmanship hence the value will always go up over time.
Ummm maybe also perfect because they are actually relatively available for purchase. It’s my next in line behind a Journe, but the “Johnny come lately’s” ruined that one for us, and you can’t even get one now unless your willing to pay 5x retail on secondary market, which is quite an injustice to the brand and every true enthusiast (since Journe doesn’t see that additional revenue), and since the flippers destroyed the world of watchmaking. So , Lange is an amazing fall back plan. And not even fair to say fallback plan, cuz they are marvelous creations in their own right.
ALS offers beautiful watches. When you derive a certain pleasure by simply admiring a watch time after time, then it’s time to consider your next steps.

Bulova makes a Sutton Big Date that in a way is an homage to the ALS One. I first saw the Bulova in Black/Gold but when I found a Silver one with a Green dial on eBay I had to get it. It's my own ALS One for $250 lol

Lange 1 being beautiful, yes. Dress watch? I think it has too many complications for a dress watch and also not very symmetric. For me, dress watch only has minute and hour hands. That's it. Saxonia is the dress watch. Lange 1 is a super watch.
You're mistaken. The Lange date windows are too large - The most important piece of information on a watch is not the date, but the time. You check your watch to know the time many times per day, the date maybe only a few times per week. Their date windows are ugly and obtrusive. The time should be the main focus, not the date. But as these watches are mostly for men who are 50/60+ years of age, maybe the large date makes sense if their eyesight isn't that good anymore. Personally I prefer to just wear glasses and be able to see.

As much as I like the Lange 1 its not the perfect dress watch for me. Instead I'd prefer a Breguet Tradition. I love seeing the movement on the dial and they're surprisingly not that expensive; not affordable but not unobtainable either and they're readily available, no waitlists or BS. Anyways, great watch, great video.
@@JuanAlejandroT I agree it is busy. I suppose if I had to pick a perfect dress watch *in terms of traditional dress, it would be a simple two or three hander, preferably in YG or RG, 38mm or smaller, no date and either handwound or with microrotor. My recent favorite is the new L.U.Chopard 1860.

Love the Lange 1. An absolute beauty, especially the 192.029. One correction I wanted to make at 1:55 was that in 1994, Lange released the Arkade, not the Cabaret. The Cabaret was first released in 1997.
I feel it is too busy for me. Definitely a great looking watch with great finishing and engineering but I prefer a watch to have the dial front and center.
