    SD I did a little LV exotic dance last week, and snooped Chanel killing time before my appointment.
    CHI!!! They had a white top handle in the window, crooked flap, crooked stitching, and the leather woven thru the chain strap was completely twisted and ratty looking. I stood stunned that it ever made it out of QC, let alone into the window. My mouth literally fell open!!!!

If she’s the target customer and she refuses to shop then what is exactly is Chanel’s plan? Are they purposely trying not to make a profit? Their entry level products like the costume jewelry is the poorest quality of all the big houses so you can’t buy that, and fragrance and cosmetics surely can’t carry them! I’m just very confused

    I understand that Chanel has to balance the exclusivity of the brand with actual cash flow, but when your own SAs, who are in essence the local face of the brand, cannot afford to buy your products, that’s a huge red flag. An SA is ALWAYS an advertisement for the brand, they do just as much marketing as the HQ just by being there and wearing it for people to see. When I worked cosmetic retail, people asked me what I wore on my face and body daily, it works.
    2k increase on a 3k bag in 5 years is simply insane. Like beyond comprehension and belief. At those prices, they can at least make the hardware gold-plated again…

    • @koenignero
      @koenignero 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Sorry but this is nonsense. expecting SA‘s to afford high-priced items like Chanel bags on their regular salaries isn’t reasonable or fair. Sales associates are primarily responsible for providing excellent customer service, maintaining product knowledge, and representing the brand positively. However, their compensation reflects the retail industry standards, which typically don’t align with the pricing tiers of luxury products they sell. For example, in the automotive industry, a dealership employee might represent luxury car brands like Mercedes or BMW but isn’t expected to drive one themselves

The one in store had a defect the SA was quick to agree what I pointed out and said there was another one if France and she will order it in for me. The bag came in two days later perfect condition. I was ready to buy my first Classic Flap in 2015 but it had quality issues and because they couldn’t get me the same model in time I decided to skip.
    Then, around 2020, the time came when I deeply regretted this decision and I began chasing pre-loved CFs. Finally I also decided against this option.
    Now I am at a point where I no longer want this bag. It is not (only) about the price. Looking around, seeing the struggles in this economic downturn… sometimes I already feel embarrassed wearing a Burberry scarf or a LV bag in public.
    Buying luxury has always been fun and distraction for me, I enjoyed wearing these pieces.
    Now it often feels inappropriate and there is no fun in carrying luxury when you see people around you in fear of loosing their job.
    Things you buy should bring you joy, not sorrow.
    Not saying I don’t spend money anymore but I choose differently today.
    Sure, also in 2015 a Chanel bag was already expensive. But as you said, it was still accessible. Today carrying a Classic Flap would feel like a parade of late Roman decadence to me.
    Thanks for speaking out, Dacob! You have already been the lone voice in the wilderness when nobody thought, it would turn out this way. Thank you, voice of reason. 🙏

    That is probably what Chanel is aiming for - to bring the brand back to exclusivity so it wont become everybody's attainable luxury brand like how LV turned out. The price increases are insane and Chanel wants to limit their market back to the original crazy rich or high level fashionable ones. I think the lack of shoppers ligning up in Chanel, with their SAs not being able to afford the products are the goals they are trying to achive to regain the exclusivity of the product and limit the sale of chanel items via shoppers (through SA connections) and second hand market (mixed with the good dupes). Conceited but clever strategy.

    I was at our local Chanel store in Copenhagen 2 months ago and it was completely empty and the SA looked kind of tired. A lot of the store’s core employees I have known for many years are not there anymore. Let’s be realistic. Whose the primary customer of these luxury houses? The middle class or upper middle class. We r in a crazy recession… it would be a fools errand to “waste” ones savings on a piece of leather that in its essence is frankly unnecessary to survive. And they have aweful resale value as I know first hand. The only people buying are the truest wealthy who probably don’t work, live off of dividends and have millions stashed away in an offshore account OR a middle class person who is risking a roof over their head. I love luxury too but right now is the time to boost one’s savings & put more money into your retirement portfolio. Those bags aren’t going anywhere. I choose security vs a pretty handbag. Just my 0.02 cents. I recently closed my Nordstroms card because it’s too tempting. Id rather my extra money go to my savings vs padding the pocket of another company. Yes my savings does pad the pockets of the banking system but personally I like feeling secure. Ok, once again, love the video!

    I completely agree. It’s actually rather depressing isn’t it? A very thoughtful and empathetic video, Dacob. And I’m less and less comfortable carrying Chanel when it makes me look like someone who would spend $11k on a CF bag. Strange times.

  • @finleyevans4775
    @finleyevans4775 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    Ok. That is super weird about the total absence of leather smell. To me, that's a signature. If there is no smell of leather...is it really leather? or is this a top-grain situation??? Top grain has no smell either, as far as I can tell. This continued attempt to brainwash people into believing the price MUST MEAN top quality. I actually saw a denim classic flap that was nearly 10k in USD on their website. I think they have lost their everloving minds.

    • @SuperDacob
      @SuperDacob  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Oh yeah, when they price a denim at 10k, you know its game over. Lol. As for absence of smell in leather… at least the dye used should have some smell… like red or green or blue dyes… one would think that those would have a smell… even Hermes leather bags have a smell and their leathers are deemed to be the best in the game…

    Look as someone who has been a client for more that 30 years I think these price increases are a good thing. These stores, these brands and their products were never meant for the young client, for the person who has to save up for years. There are meant to be lines outside of the stores and people crying because of a scratch. All these people should be using their hard earned money for something else, not for a bag… It was almost immoral of these brands to pray on such people but I think it was a money grab, mainly targeted to people in a particular country in Asia and now that seems to be over.
    Let luxury be over for people who have other, more important things in life to focus on!

    I don’t get it. We all know the majority of people buying these luxury brand items are average folk who can’t really afford them in the first place. With these sky high prices, aren’t they pricing out the majority of their client base? Just plane old corporate greed now. Kinda like when a store is about to go out of business and you go in and see the prices are rediculously high and you leave. Sounds like Chanel is reaching their price limit and it’s just corporate greed desperate cash grab now.
