I started playing piano a few years ago, and I got 1 less per week for about 2 years. I practiced every day so I could play like those older kids who had lessons after me. They were epic. I don't get the hate for this app. Anything that gets someone focused on reading is a good thing. It was never designed to make you a virtuoso, but to teach reading which is f***ing miserable if you don't know where to start.
I’d say that most people just despise the annoying ads and the obviously fake acting. At least that’s what brought me here, I got at least over 2 dozen ads for this app just today evening and it’s been like that for good 8 months.
The only thing that urks me is the fake ads. People going into piano at first might fall for it and lose valuable time they could have spent with a teacher, or TH-cam lessons from capable people
Last winter, I chose to give myself a birthday gift and start playing again. I played a little as a kid but never had lessons because my widowed mother and I were poor. Took 16 years off due to having a family. Then I became widowed and it was just my son and I and guess what? We are poor! Simply piano is only ten bucks a month when you buy a year subscription. Getting an actual piano teacher is expensive. I work 92 hours every two weeks so between my job and the hour and a half commute, I squeeze in piano practice where I can using this app. There is not teacher on earth that can fit into my schedule, making the (at least an hour) commute, that will teach me for ten bucks a month. You can cringe at the commercials all you want but the app has helped me a LOT in sight reading which I was always terrible at. Using a nine year old iPad, I have access to the beta function of the app which does have a metronome. You should look at actually trying the app for a month and see what it can do for people who have no natural talent but still want to try to play.
I have a similar experience as you describe. I am almost done Simply Piano now, and I have learned an unbelievable amount. I can practice at any time for little cost, and it's been amazing. The one thing that all of the "haters" of Simply Piano have in common is that they have never tried the app or learned from it.
Look it learns you you playing the notes and some songs but it doesnt learn u the rythm leggatto and other stuff like that with this app you cant find any talent
This is me. Played the viola and violin for 15 years, and guitar for 8. For me, the app actually gives me just a nice learning progression and a lesson plan to stick to. Plus, if you do connect your keyboard to the phone or tablet, the feedback is pretty good. But for children, or adults who are lacking in other music experience, I agree, it's probably going to be a little rough at first.
I just hate that they try to pass it off as "get the app and it becomes so easy!" like ur literally still reading the sheet music, just go to a music store and get one of the beginner books they have and boom it's the same thing. To get good at piano or any instrument you need to _practice._

Cheap electronic keyboards are not usually touch sensitive if they cost around $100. That means no matter how gentle or forceful you press the key,the dynamics are still the same. The volume doesn't vary.
I started to use simply piano while in lockdown because in victoria we still cant have lessons. I hope to transition to a teacher soon. Simply Piano will not teach you posture, hand placement or many of the basic skills you learn from a teacher. Its good for a bit of fun but expect a teacher to fix a lot of problems the app causes
I think that awareness will get you very far. The app is good for generating interest but you are right that the app will not help with posture and intricate movements required for playing certain passages. Best of luck! :)
@@DanLuongPiano Yes the App can be helpful for some people who just want to learn it casually, but simply piano must have an option to teach people Heavy theory in case they want to learn more about the piano for those who don't want to learn with a teacher.

Will it help my child to continue with the help of “Simply Piano”. What other options are available for her if you could let me know. Thanks
I reccomend Herbie Hancocks master class on composition and improvisation. Do not use simply piano, because if your daughter has been playing piano for a year she should be covered on the basics that simply piano teaches. There is no compromise to being taught by a professional, but some options are better than others.

@@johnnyberman4768 I dont think Chopin. Simply piano doesn't even teach what Rubato is. You got to know Rubato before touching Chopin's music. And these students just will butcher Chopin pieces.
it seems like the developers of Simply Piano want to make playing piano look like something you can master in less than 2 months if i am being honest with you lads.
they are judging the imposters, who are faking their "progress". And the scammers, who sell the hope to learn good and fast. But the hope is to be ruined eventually, when reality strikes back. This is unacceptable.
I get you’re all pros… but degrading this app because the adds is kind of mean. It is NOT a pro app and its meant for kids usually to see if they would like to further learn. Its also an app for ppl just to learn the basics. Im a documentary film director, I don’t degrade kids or ppl wanting to learn to edit on iMovie of they want to see if they have a feel for it or just to make home vids. Nor do I laugh at guys doing youtube vids using their phones for fun.
Bro piano lessons cost less than this app and show you how to do this the right way. You don't go to a piano class to become a pro. You do it to learn to play. This app doesn't show you how to do things the right way and it often times hurts more than helps.
@@cdt.arcegerimie8945 Yes it does but it teaches you only the basics (as I would say). But I think it may help you learn reading sheet music. I’m using it since less than a year and I can read sheet music. But it’s no better than a tutor of course..
For anyone wondering, Simply Piano is in fact a great way to learn piano on your own schedule and at minimal cost. I have been using it for a while now, and have had immense progress. If not for Simply Piano I would never have been able to learn piano.
Same! Not all of us were blessed to have parents that could afford to get us a piano teacher as a kid. And being an adult, finally starting to learn, I would love to know where I would find a teacher who would make time for me after 9pm (because that is when I can fit in my practice time), and for a yearly fee like the apps costs. As nice as these people seem, I cannot shake the feeling that they are piano snobs. Isn’t the love for the instrument what matters, Regardless of how you go about it?
@@just-nadia-and-keys But here is the thing. Simply piano is good for beginners and for those who want to casually play the piano. Its basically an app which is going to teach only basic chords and how to read notes. After that you just play whatever songs or pieces you want to play. It doesn't matter what price it charges or even if it is cheaper than affording piano lessons it doesn't teach you a lot of stuff. There may be so many people out there playing piano using this app and may think they want to learn more or more curious of playing piano. You cant always trust an app to be your ultimate guide of playing piano because playing any instrument is more than just playing notes and be ing able to play whatever piece or song you want. Thats is probably why teaching is a little expensive, because its worth it. An app will just judge you if you play the right notes and be in flow with the tempo almost like a video game which is making you finish tasks where you get awarded by 3 stars after finishing your piece. What about your posture? How about learning to expressively play and bring music in how you play your pieces? No app will ever judge you based on how you interpret your pieces. These apps will teach only how to play pieces where you have to play perfectly without any wrong notes. Of course its important to memorize, but its also important to musically bring in those emotions in your playing. Only a teacher will judge you all of these aspects. If you think of all the greatest pianists of all time, they did play wrong notes in some point in their life. But its their interpretation that counts. If we will be so focused on an app which teaches you on only playing right notes all the time, we will miss the point.
@@yashbspianoandcompositions1042 Exactly! It doesn't teach you how to put emotions into your playing, it doesn't teach you how to improvise and it doesn't teach you posture and hand positions. It doesn't teach you the things that make playing piano magical, special, amazing and wonderful. It doesn't teach you alot of things
Although you call yourself ‘classical pianists’ It’s a bit rude to judge an app by its adds. It’s just like judging a book by its cover. If you don’t believe this app works then search other videos cause there are people out there that have actually learned a lot from the app.
well, simply piano doesn’t teach you important stuff such as dynamics and rubato. Remember that Chopin and many other composers love using rubato to speed up and slow down THEIR OWN WAY, but this app only makes you do it THEIR WAY. Plus, fingering, hand gestures, the way you ACTUALLY PLAY THE PIANO(the feeling), all of that is left out.
Here is what makes simply piano good from my beginner perspective. It teaches you to sight read notes with instant feedback for correction, this is difficult for a teacher to do because they don’t sit with you 24/7. It uses popular music and provides background music so you can have satisfaction from playing simple melodies and it keeps you engaged - in other words, fun. The levels are very progressive and build slowly. My playing has improved compared to when I was a kid and actually had a couple of piano teachers (who might not have been very good). Now I’m sight reading instead of memorizing songs. The downside, the scrolling effect makes it difficult to learn proper timing. However they released a sheet music component that I can learn timing with. I don’t think this app will make me an amazing player but it is enjoyable for a beginner. If I want to truly become a good player having a teacher is obvious, but for most who want accessible and affordable I think it is alright. Maybe there are better or more professional apps out there. Picking up on nuance is just a matter of the software improving which will inevitably happen if not for this app then another one in the future
I dont get the hate for this app. It is fun to play modern pop songs. It does not teach everything but people looking to learn exclusively via an app don't care about perfection. For people looking to get serious about piano, they will need to supplement the app with either books or a teacher.
do you guys realise that the app just gives the very basics of music it introduces a lot of people to music there are an awful lot of us who cannot afford £30 for half hour lesson some of us just wants to learn the basics and be able to play a song and read basic sheet music we are not all classical pianists nor are we all likely to be if we can't afford regular music lessons these apps are the next best thing

@@2sharps1flat I bet simply piano will even have any of Bach's pieces other than the minuet.
@@yashbspianoandcompositions1042 what about Chopin also
@@johnnyberman4768 I dont think Chopin. Simply piano doesn't even teach what Rubato is. You got to know Rubato before touching Chopin's music. And these students just will butcher Chopin pieces.
@@yashbspianoandcompositions1042 I was just making fun of how simply piano goes for the easy, iconic pieces to attract non piano players.
it seems like the developers of Simply Piano want to make playing piano look like something you can master in less than 2 months if i am being honest with you lads.
Oh, yay!!! In addition to Simply Piano ads, there are Simply Guitar ads!!!
Elite concert pianist judging people who just want to learn how to hammer out a tune and have a good time.
they are judging the imposters, who are faking their "progress". And the scammers, who sell the hope to learn good and fast.
But the hope is to be ruined eventually, when reality strikes back. This is unacceptable.
I got a simply piano ad on this video 💀
This app doesn't show you how to do things the right way and it often times hurts more than helps.
these ads come out to peepl who dont have a piano I don't have one myself... man it's so annoying.
I actually like simply piano and it actually teaches me how to plsy prpoper notes.
It does work?
@@cdt.arcegerimie8945 Yes it does but it teaches you only the basics (as I would say). But I think it may help you learn reading sheet music. I’m using it since less than a year and I can read sheet music. But it’s no better than a tutor of course..
@@Ranjanabengeri ow tnx its happy to hear that tho
For anyone wondering, Simply Piano is in fact a great way to learn piano on your own schedule and at minimal cost. I have been using it for a while now, and have had immense progress. If not for Simply Piano I would never have been able to learn piano.
I second that! A lot of people cannot afford lessons.
𝚈𝚘𝚞 𝚜𝚘𝚞𝚗𝚍 𝚕𝚒𝚔𝚎 𝚊𝚗 𝚊𝚍
@@yashbspianoandcompositions1042 Exactly! It doesn't teach you how to put emotions into your playing, it doesn't teach you how to improvise and it doesn't teach you posture and hand positions. It doesn't teach you the things that make playing piano magical, special, amazing and wonderful. It doesn't teach you alot of things
When a simply piano ad plays during the video
Not me getting a simply piano ad during this video 😭
I got the first ad in this video right before this video started
Well, I tried simply piano. in 2 words, i will say it is TOTAL TRASH
How do you do the whole piano
Underrated channel, I thought you had at least 100k
Oh no there's a new s imply piano ad I got it while watching this video
Before this there were a simply piano ad
LMAAOOOOO I GOT A SIMPLYPIANO AD DURING THIS VIDEO
this video was like ¨try not to roast challenge¨
😂😂
I dont get the hate for this app. It is fun to play modern pop songs. It does not teach everything but people looking to learn exclusively via an app don't care about perfection. For people looking to get serious about piano, they will need to supplement the app with either books or a teacher.
Dude the ad I got when the vid started was a simply piano ad
The app actually listen to what you play and shows you on the pentagram
I got a ‘Piano by Yousician’ ad at the beginning-
Edit: Halfway through I got a simply guitar ad-
(I’ll say if I get a simply piano ad.)
I picked up simply piano for myself after my son got a teacher. The app is amazing! As an app developer, I am really impressed with the tech.
Well yes but, do you think the ads are real?
@@schizonaysbinp1475no ads are real
do you guys realise that the app just gives the very basics of music it introduces a lot of people to music there are an awful lot of us who cannot afford £30 for half hour lesson some of us just wants to learn the basics and be able to play a song and read basic sheet music we are not all classical pianists nor are we all likely to be if we can't afford regular music lessons these apps are the next best thing
i got a simply piano ad on this video
I got 2 simply piano ads before this
So the people in the comments were not lying... I just got a 45 seconds Simply Piano ad before the video started
